Question For All You At Or Near Goal?
emily_0192010 replied to suzcomptime's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I haven't tracked mine monthly, but it has definitely slowed down!! I would say I lose an average of about 5 a month now. I'm 7 months out. I lost very steadily in the beginning, and then I started stalling out a lot and my weight loss started to "staircase". But, yes. Our weight loss slows down significantly as you move along. And this is a good thing, IMO. It is safer and healthier for your body to lose the weight gradually. It also helps your skin to catch up. -
Joined a gym today! Hoping it won't kill me financially... but I got a great deal including 3 free months. Plus, after 2 years I'll be a lifetime member and won't have to pay monthly. Here's to kicking my butt for the rest of my life! LOL

Tomorrow is a new day!! Just move forward. The date countdown is a good idea. My suggestion would be to put some sort of sign or picture or the calendar posted ON your fridge and/or your cupboards or the entrance to your kitchen. Something like "it isn't worth it! Only ____ more days to go!" Sometimes visual reminders help. Again, don't beat yourself up. It is in the past so move on and re-focus. You are doing great and pretty soon you will be joining sleeve-land and will have a solid seat on the loser's bench

Today is an "extra tight" sleeve day! I actually like these days because it reminds me that even 7 months out my sleeve is still taking care of me

Hair Loss-Why Doesn't Anyone Talk About It?
emily_0192010 replied to buckeyefan1985's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
LOL... we DEFINITELY talk about it!!! I started to lose my hair around 4 months out. I am not 7 months out and it is definitely starting to grow back in. I have "baby" hair growing in. Even though my hair thinned out quite a bit, it wasn't catastrophic. I don't think any of else are walking around with bald heads. I am also pretty sure that it pretty much effects everyone in some way. But again, it really isn't that bad. Definitely easy to live with and deal with and it seems like it grows back! -
GREAT job!!! It feels awesome doesn't it???!!! I love my sleeve!

Hey... I am definitely in the last 30 or so of my journey and my weight loss has slowed down dramatically! I am also averaging 4 lbs a month now... sometimes less! It certainly seems like these last 30 are going to take just as long as the first 115! To not get depressed over it I am trying to just think one day at a time. I focus on my protein and my water and my vitamin and go on with my day. I am just now starting to really exercise so I'll see how that affects my weight loss. I have also stalled a LOT during my journey. The reason my numbers were still high was because I would drop a lot when it broke.

My Unexpected Nsv - It Rocked!
emily_0192010 replied to Pookeyism's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Thank you for sharing! I love reading about these and you definitely did not overshare The NSV's are what make this whole process worth it. More than numbers and even clothing sizes. The NSV's make us shout for joy and plaster smiles on our faces... to read that someone else is experiencing it as well is an awesome feeling! It makes me feel proud, even though I don't know you personally. Good job and keep it up! I am so happy for you! -
Nsv! Feel Like I'm On Cloud 9!
emily_0192010 replied to diochick's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Awesome!!! I *love* roller coasters and rides and parks and I cannot wait to go again!! I would certainly fit now, just waiting for a carnival to roll thru or money to visit the parks (I live in Florida). So congrats! I can totally understand. It certainly IS the best feeling in the world! -
Vsg & Hiatal Hernia Repair
emily_0192010 replied to pamr's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hello I'm glad to hear you are doing well!! I also had a hiatal hernia repaired during my operation and didn't find out until my follow-up visit! I'm not sure if it made my recovery harder or not. Apparently it is very, very common! I also agree that wearing something tight actually helps in some ways. Once my incisions weren't sore themselves (just general soreness) I wore a spanx-like thing all the time. I still wear it! Immediately after surgery I wore one that was technically a size or two too big, that way it held me in but didn't add pressure. Good luck on not stepping on the scale! It is very tempting at first! Also, be prepared just in case you hit the "three week stall". Totally normal, but it can still hurt to see it. If you do hit it, just remember "Water, Protein, vitamin" and try not to dwell on the number! -

Whats In Your Sleeve?
emily_0192010 replied to alliegb3's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
breakfast- 2 bacon, 1 egg (separated by about an hour... but still) lunch- plain greek yogurt mixed with unflavored Protein and torani sugar free syrup. dinner- shrimp scampi snack- land o lakes individually wrapped colby jack cheese Very good day for me, though a bit low in cals. -
I've never heard about it, but if you can afford it go for it!! The other thing I would suggest is making a bunch of stuff over the weekend and then all you would have to do is re-heat them. Not necessarily the yummiest, but certainly very easy!

Short People Success Stories?
emily_0192010 replied to Thinner Peace's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hello I don't have any pics right here and I'm not "done" yet. I am 5'2". I also lost 40 pre-op. I am now a total of 115 lbs down. I went from 262 to 147. Does that help? And there are tons of us shorties on here -

What Was It Like While You Were Under?
emily_0192010 replied to letsdothis!!!'s topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
My anesthesiologist was awesome He kept yapping at me and asking me questions. I didn't really answer him as I was too busy looking around the OR (I've wanted to be a surgeon since I was very little, I found the whole thing fascinating rather than scary). I was just about to ask someone what this machine thing I saw was for. I looked to the side and.... nothing. LOL. I was out! Next thing I was waking up in recovery... and asking for my mommy lol! They were awesome and actually let her into the recovery room as I had to stay a bit longer just to wait out a shift change or waiting for my room or something like that. Anyways, I've heard some people say that for them its like no time has passed at all and it can be a little disorienting waking up. I didn't feel that so much. I seriously just felt like I napped after being exhausted. If it helps set your mind at ease you can always request to talk to the anesthesiologist or his/her nurse beforehand and you can pick their brain -
I decided to really start pushing my exercise now... and it is already paying off! I've been swimming laps and using my wii fit. Today I re-started the C25K and I was able to complete it! During the jogging sections I actually felt like I could keep going, so I increased me speed! Feeling awesome right now!

It seems like you already ordered, but they now offer "grilled nuggets" which are awesome. 4 is perfect for me and its less than 2 dollars! One day you may be able to do their salads or even their sandwiches (minus the bun or top bun).

Hey everyone- I just started using mfp... please add me! my username is emmeylou. I am slowly starting to add in everyone... but it takes a long time! -
I pretty much agree with everyone else. Bread and bread-like products (tortillas, Pasta, rice, etc) hit your stomach and then expand... and it hurts. The only time I have ever truly felt uncomfortable with my sleeve was when I tried to eat a sandwich. I love tuna sandwiches... but tuna by itself is gross... but I had to get over it because it hurt to eat. I consider this a good thing because for the most part it is just empty calories. Also, I can honestly say that I don't miss it! Please don't push bread at this point... it really could hurt you!

1 Year And 5 Days Post Op- All Smiles!
emily_0192010 replied to Candace2314's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Congrats!!! I am so happy for you! I remember you were just getting your sleeve when I started my process so I am so glad to hear how well you are doing! You are going to hit that 100 lbs before you know it! -
I am seven months out... I would say that I eat faster than I did immediately post-op but still slower than I ever ate before. When I sit down with my family, I finish my food around the same time they do, I'm just eating less. It really does feel normal for me now though, I don't feel like i'm missing out on anything.

An NSV is a non-scale victories. It's the little things we Celebrate during our weight loss that have nothing to do with numbers or scales. It could be fitting into an old dress, climbing up a staircase without losing your breath, etc.

21 Months Post Op Today

Thanks for sharing!!! I love reading about people so far after their op dates ESPECIALLY when they are doing as well as you are!
