I'm so sorry that you've been having such issues. I had some awful gas when I got home and was walking a bunch. I ate GasX before going to bed and it was MUCH BETTER. I also don't like Water as much anymore. I feel like I get dry mouth from it. For me, Sobe Lifewater goes down great. So does chicken broth. I have been able to drink that so well from the beginning. I'm glad you saw your surgeon. I was worried you might be dehydrated. If you aren't getting in the fluids and still feel nauseous, go to the ER and get an IV of fluids. Dehydration, especially w/ the weather we've been having, is a real concern so be careful!

Just found this thread. I was sleeved on May 24 in Philadelphia. Felt great after the surgery and was up and moving around w/ no problems. Had a fever 2 nights ago, but it's gone now. Had my 2-week post-op visit w/ my doctor yesterday and have now progressed to mushie food. Tried eggs this morning and made it thru half. Had the Turkey Ragu from Before & After Eating for lunch and it was DELICIOUS! Feel full after 2 ice cubes worth.

Hi eveyrone. I'm pretty new to this forum and am mainly just a lurker. I had my first post-op appt today and was cleared to eat pureed food. Just pureed some rotisserie chicken (w/o skin of course) with some broth. This stuff looks nasty. I have issues w/ texture so I'm not sure how this will go. My mom made a ton of stuff when I got home from the hospital, but it seems it either is high on the carbs or low on the Protein and my nut kind of said don't eat it for a few months and to focus on protein, protein protein. What are some of the things you did to get thru this stage. I'm almost wishing I could still just do liquids. I don't like cottage cheese or riccotta, so that doesn't help either. Would love to hear any thoughts you might have. Thanks! robin

How soon did you start w/ soft foods?
re7777 replied to Purdy in Pink's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was sleeved on 5/24 and had my 2-week post-op visit today. The nutritionist gave me the go-ahead to start pureed foods. Sorry to hear you need to wait another 2 weeks for mushies. Have you tried the nectar drinks? I was getting sick of the chocolate and vanilla stuff, but the Nectar stuff gives you something different. I have their iced tea and pink grapefruit and they are pretty good. A nice change from the chocolate/vanilla shake options. Good luck! -
Hi, Eddie. I'm about 10 days out (sleeved 5/24) and I found that in the very beginning, the easiest thing for me to get down was chicken broth. I'm just now able to tolerate water, but before that I drank broth, Sobe Life Water, jello, etc. I agree w/ everyone else that you are most likely dehydrated and that is what is causing your nausea. I have not been dehydrated since the sleeve, but have been dehydrated before. I usually feel very queasy, sweat a lot or stop sweating if I was sweating, and can't get anything down. My doctor and his staff warned me about sweating in the heat this past week and emphasized my need to get as much water as possible, but to get myself to the ER if I was feeling the signs of dehyddration. Good luck and I hope you are doing OK. robin

Endometriosis with Sleeve
re7777 replied to DivaDee84's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had (have?) endometriosis when I was a teenager. I had a cyst the size of a grapefruit removed from both ovaries. Was on depo provera for 8 years until one of my docs put me on BCPs. I haven't had cramps as bad as they were 20 years ago, but mine have been getting more intense over the past 5-6 years. At present, I usually take 3-4 advil every 4-6 hours, when I have cramps. That helps dull the pain. Not looking forward to how things will go after I get sleeved on tuesday. Can't imagine tylenol is as potent. I think that would be the main problem w/ endometriosis and the sleeve. Good luck! -
Two days before surgery and STILL EATING
re7777 replied to supportgroup's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I hope all went well w/ your husband's surgery today. I am scheduled for this coming Tuesday (5/24). When I saw my doctor and asked him about a pre-op diet, he told me I didn't need to, but also not to go hog wild. At the nutrition class 2 days later, I then learned about the 1000 calorie pre-op diet. They didn't like the doctor's suggestion and said I should follow it. The first week I did a modified version. this past week, I've been more strict w/ a couple diversions due to travel for work. I tried to be as low carb as possible. I don't think there should be a problem since I've already lost close to 8 lbs in the past week and a half. It really is what the doctor is comfortable with. Please let us know what the doctor said after the fact. -
Help with Pre-Op Diet
re7777 replied to Blessed&Broken's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Everyone's different w/ respect to flavor and taste preference. For example, I do not like the EAS drinks b/c they taste too fake. The ones I'm finding I like the most are Pure Protein, both the chocolate powder and the vanilla, chocolate or Cookies and cream ready to drink shakes. I tried the ready to drink shakes before buying the huge tub of powder. You can find the Pure Protein Powder and ready to drink shakes at Target (that's where I get mine). GNC has the shakes and the Jello, but not the powder. Good luck! I'm scheduled for the day after you - 5/24. Yikes! -
That's great news! I have Federal BCBS and my bariatric coordinator mistakenly submitted me for the bypass instead of the sleeve. I got approved for the bypass on Tuesday, but am now waiting to hear whether they'll approve me for the sleeve. No idea how they messed up like that, but the fact that you were approved for the sleeve gives me hope. We scheduled a date for 5/24, assuming that fepblue won't give me a problem about the sleeve and will approve me just as quickly. Good luck!

Consult Done, I'm on my way
re7777 replied to notsochubbybritneyspears's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Bummer that no one in your doctor's office told you. At my info session they told folks that just about all insurance companies require the medical weight management, it was just a matter of how many months. The 2011 (and the 2010, I think) Benefit Plan Brochure for Federal BCBS says that you need 3 months of monitored weight management, among other things, before you can be approved. I had my last appointment this week, so we should be sending the paperwork over to BCBS in the next week or 2. My fingers are crossed that they will cover the sleeve. Good luck! Robin
