Post-op 6 weeks: How many calories?

This is a great question! I'd like to find out as well. I've got my 5wk follow-up with my dr later this week and I'll have to put that on the list of questions to ask. I'm with you... I want to say my natural tendency is to have about 700-800cal/day and don't know what I should be "shooting" for.

On to pureed foods, need recommendations.

For me, puree was weeks 2-3 post-op. I went to a local Soup shop and picked up all sorts Soups, brought them home, and threw them in the blender. Whatever was left went through the strainer. Tasted great and didn't have to worry about "chunks", etc. I also had cream of wheat for Breakfast, and still did some of the Clear Liquids (broths, etc.) when I wasn't feeling up to eating the soups. Still loved the SF popsicles as well. Good luck!
  3. Yogurt and scrambled eggs were my favorite "mushies". Add some salsa to the egg... I still have one for breakfast once in a while. You're definitely not a lunatic!

    Stall??'s

I think I'm getting out of the 3/4-week stall now! I didn't really need to do much different - it'll happen. Finally broke back into the 200s!!! Haven't been there for years and years.

    Am I 'on track' ??

Thanks for the comment. That's where I'm at. Didn't lose much last week and nothing this week either. (Wks 3 and 4). Hoping to break that soon!

    Itching!!

I totally feel your pain! My first week or two I itched quite a bit as well. It helped to itch between the incision sites - just kept away from touching the sites themselves. It definitely helped.
  7. I "crashed" a few times in weeks 3 and 4. I'm into week 5 now and starting to feel better. I really haven't changed much from last week to this week.
  8. I would get in touch with your doctor and be completely, 100% up-front with them as to exactly what you ate, when you ate it, and how much you ate. The reason for the liquid diet is so that your liver can shrink and give the Dr. room to operate. If that hasn't happened, then there's a good chance they'll sew you back up without having performed the surgery. That being said, my Surgeon asks for 7 days of clear liquid diet, but when they moved my surgery forward, it really ended up being 5 1/2 to 6 days. No complications and things went great. Communicate with your surgeon and see what they want to do. Good luck!
  9. Hope your surgery went without a hitch!

    Decision has been made

There are a few of us guys around. I had my sleeve done almost a month ago. Love it. I can see the lbs coming off, and clothes are fitting <much> better. This week I got my first 2 "outsider" compliments! It was exciting. My wife complements me all the time, but she knows what to be looking for. Good luck!

    Surgery Date: October 13th

Find a good beef, chicken, or vegetable broth that you can stomach. I concentrated way too much on the sweet stuff (jello, popsicles, etc.) and by day 2 I was craving salt like you would not believe. It's not quite the time of the year for it, but I also appreciated some hot apple cider (sugar free, of course). Good luck!.

    Surgery in 17 days

I'd take the time to review the diet plans you have from your surgeon. Figure out what "tastes good" to you... I stocked up on sugar-free popsicles, chicken, beef & vegetable broths, etc. If you can, get a sampler of Protein drink flavors and find one that will work for you. Those are the things I wish I would have done going into my clear liquid diet phase. I thought I had plenty of time to get that done, but they ended up moving my surgery forward and I was caught off-guard. Good luck!

    stuck!

Just wanted to drop a "thank you" to all who posted here. I wasn't expecting the stall, and while my weight loss up to wk 3 was great, I've been bouncing off of 300 for a few days now. Guess I'll have to stop weighing myself for a few days and check it again next week!

    Stalling so soon????

Just my quick reponse to this thread. I'm 3.5 weeks out from surgery now - and had been losing almost an average of 1lb/day for a couple of weeks. I think I've hit the stall now, though. Super frustrating because I bounced off that "magic " 300lb mark and have been between 300 and 302 for 4 or 5 days now. Can't wait to see a "2" on the scale again!! So, what is the "average" stall duration? Am I correct in that it's called the 3 week stall? Is that because it happens at week 3, or because it lasts for 3 weeks? I know we're all different, but there's nothing in my weight loss "bible" that talks about this. Thanks all!
  15. I'm 3-weeks post-op from a sleeve by Dr. Richards. So far so good, no complications!

    Any ideas for pureed foods?

In my puree stage, I picked up a few Soups from a local Soup shop and threw them in the blender (sometimes with a little unflavored Protein powder), and Protein shakes. Good luck!
  17. You might want to post this in the "band to sleeve revision" section of the forum... As far as my surgery was concerned, I was off work for a week. One week after surgery, I flew to California for a 1-day meeting. Aside from having to sneak out from the catered lunch and finding some strained Soup, it worked pretty well. I'd say I really felt back in the swing of things by about week 2. Keep in mind that you're not supposed to lift more than 8lb your first week out of surgery, and no more than 20lb for the next 3-4 weeks after that. If your job involves anything like that, then you you might need more time off. Good luck!
  18. At two weeks, my surgeon's plan said I could start the mushies. You'll want to check with your Dr first, but I've been living on the following: Cream of Wheat Egg (1, with a little salsa) String cheese Cottage Cheese Soups from a local Soup shop (puree'd) Lite Yogurt etc. It hasn't been that bad. Again, check with your Dr, but those are the things that are working for me.

    Have 100+ lbs to loose?

Good luck. I'm about 2 1/2 weeks post-op now and so far my average weight loss has been 1lb/day. Granted, I'm just starting some soft solid foods again and I'm certain that will slow down some. At 1lb/day you could definitely meet your goal. You'll probably have to "ramp-up" your exercise as you move through the process in order to keep the loss at a rate like that (I'm guessing). I'm still in the "walking" phase and keeping it easy, but the next couple of weeks I'll need to start ramping up. Good luck!
  20. So, at 2wks post-op, what's the average rate of loss? I've lost 13lb post-op, which is about 1lb/day. Is that normal, too fast, not fast enough? I know we're all different - just want to make sure it's all good. And generally speaking, when does that rate change? My expectations were 1-2lb/wk. Does the loss slow down after I get on to more solid foods? Thanks!
  21. Thanks all for the feedback. It's been very helpful!
  22. I'm two weeks out tomorrow and my Dr's "bible" says that from an exercise standpoint, weeks 3 and 4 are 10-15 minutes of walking 2 days a week. I feel <A LOT> better than that. Tomorrow evening I'll head out and see how it feels. Then again, I did a lot of walking the year leading up to the sleeve. Typically did 3-5 miles a few times a week. I'm guessing I'll feel fine and want to walk more - but we'll see.
  23. I'm going to have to go drop by there and pickup an order or two!
  24. I had a chance to check with my Drs office and they sanctioned Zuppas w/ a blender (and straining to make sure there aren't any chunks in it). The nut said she recommended the chicken noodle through a blender. Keep in mind that is is for a "full liquid" diet, not clear liquid... if you're still on clear, stick to the broths, sf popsicles, etc.
  25. I'm in a similar boat, male, same age, kids, etc... even had my surgery the day after you. While you feel great, you need to be <very careful> and follow your physician's diet plan to a "T". Failure to do so will lead to leaks, infections, and all sorts of very bad things. I'm scared to death to have any of those things happen to me - the descriptions are horrible from what I've read. Maybe a little "fear" would be good for you? Do some forum searches on infections, leaks, etc. and see what others have had happen. Best of luck to you and please stick with the diet!
