I am Rose age 52 and live in Hamburg, PA. Dr Ku is going to do my Lap Band Surgery On May 19th and I am wondering if I might be able to find any of Dr Ku's patients that would like to become friends and exercise/walking buddies. I am so embarrassed to ask for help with this but I am going to anyway, cause I need help. I am 19 days post op. I cannot have a BM to save my life. I have tried Benefiber, Milk Of Magnesia,Dulcolax, Fleet Enema, Suppositories, Eating Baby Food Prunes and I can't go. I had the urge one or two times and had to manually pull some out of my behind. I have even gained 3 lbs, because I can't go. It's all building up. there any suggestions before I get the Dr to have to get it out? Is this normal? Has or is anyone having this problem? What was your saving grace? The Dr said I did all that he would suggest. Help!!!! ROSE

I have a list of what to drink for my pre op Lap Band liquid Diet but it didn't suggest a menu. The choices resemble the 3-9 day full liquid diet/menu items. I want to get this right. It is the weekend and don't know who to contact. I wasn't called back about an Angel yet. Also, is it normal to have diahrea(don't know how to spell it.) I have tried 2 drinks of the Protein powder drinks for a few days to get use to it and I am having some incontinence trouble. I'm running to the bathroom a few times a day. I start my 4 day pre op tomorrow May 15th. Surgery on the 19th. Advice is really needed and welcomed. Hugs, Rose

Honey, I too am pre op but the only people who've tried to talk me out of it, don't know about the Lap Band. The complications were to people who had the othe procedures. Most people don't know about the lap band but only the by-pass. Looks like you need to lose 105 lbs I need to lose much more and I am 52. You sound young. Please don't give possibly having a longer and healthier life up to hear say. Maybe the friend is afraid you're going to change toward her if you lose weight.I've had a couple of people ask me that stupid question. UHHH yeah I'm gonna be happier and feel better so I will change for the best. If your friend can't handle you getting healthy then, that isn't much of a friend. Do what you and your Drs feel is best. Hello Alex, I think the ad is good. It explains a bit about the procedure, the health benefits and how to inquire about it in a minimal amount of words and time. I like that they don't have people on there who have had it done. Personally, when I see people talking on TV about how they had anything done to their bodies,(you know,info-mercials the miracle cures for anything) I always wonder. Are they paid actors/spokespeople? I believe the people who I know for certain had it done. Like on here for instance, or at the seminars/support meetings , friends and family, etc. Again , it says alot in a nutshell. Rose

I'm just wondering who is having success with their lap bands. Especially those who recently had them put in. I was in the chat room and many were being negative about it. Scared me a bit and it was somewhat discouraging. I am going for my pre-op visit tomorrow 2/26/11 and will be getting a surgery date. I would like some positive feedback. Thank you. Hugs, Rose

I don't know if any of you are as old as I am(52). I am getting my surgery date tomorrow 4/25 and what I am worried about is the excess skin. Especially from being older and having weak muscles to begin with from previous abdominal surgery. I am on medical assistance so I hope the healthcare reform doesnt take away my ability to have the skin removal. I have to lose about 180 lbs. My skin will turn into a skirt. LOL! But the one thing that will be nice is to see a beautiful me in my clothes. Most of all to lose the chronic pain, have better blood sugars if any, no more blood clots in my leg , no more sleep apnea.and maybe no more PCOS. I am on 8 meds and want to lose most of them if I can. My hubby will just have to put up with the naked me if I am squishy. LOL!

Hello, My name is Rosemarie. You may call me Rose if you like. I am just about to go for my pre op visit and get a date for my Realize Lap Band. I live in PA., and will have my surgery will be done by Dr. James Ku at Reading Hospital. I am getting a little scared which I am sure is normal. Not so much for the surgery as I have had surgeries before but for the life change that this will be. I thought it would be great to have people who have had it done and/or who are pre op so we can go through this together. This is why I am here. I just turned 52 years old and weigh about 321 lbs with enough chronic illnesses and food addiction that I just had to do this after many times of trying to lose on my own. I wish you much luck. I am going to see the light as of the 26th. I go for my pre op visit then get a date for my banding. I am nervous for sure.
