    Reactive Hypoglycemia?

Wikipedia states here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reactive_hypoglycemia that reactive hypoglycemia "is a medical term describing recurrent episodes of symptomatic hypoglycemia occurring within 4 hours[1] after a high carbohydrate meal" It also states "There are different kinds of reactive hypoglycemia:[4] Alimentary Hypoglycemia (consequence of dumping syndrome; it occurs in about 15% of people who have had stomach surgery)" So this it's saying that re-active hypoglycemia is a form of dumping, which I've experienced pre-surgery. You sound like your suffering from low blood sugar as eating relieves your symptoms, although wikipedia terms this as hypoglycemia and it's back to citing dumping again. I'd say you have hypoglycemia in the common usage sense and not the way it's most commonly used in the WLS community. See here for further wiki details: "Hypoglycemia (common usage) is also a term in popular culture and alternative medicine for a common, often self-diagnosed, condition characterized by shakiness and altered mood and thinking, but without measured low glucose or risk of severe harm. It is treated by changing eating patterns." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hypoglycemia It's something I used to experience more in my skinny teenage years due to not eating enough. The main things are to try and low carb/high protein it and to eat little and often (you have to be vigilant to not get into grazing though). I hope you can get into a better routine with your new job soon.

    31 BMI

Be careful you don't lose too much weight. I was told by several different surgeons, including a VSG one that they'd definitely turn me away if my BMI was 29.9. And don't try chugging water... it just doesn't work as you'll have to keep going to the bathroom. As my BMI was only just 30 I didn't do a pre-op diet and I was told to enjoy myself foodwise and even then I only gained a pound or two (crazy right when you try to do stuff).

What an awful episode. I'm glad you're OK now.

    Watch this

Yes, I'd heard of him. Dr Lopez Corvala uses the Endoflip. The only thing I'm not sure about is whether he uses interrupted stitches. Does anyone else out there know if Dr Lopez Corvala uses interrupted stitches? This helps ensure that the plication remains tight.

    what are sliders?

Carbs are slider foods for many too as it just doesn't you as full for so long and you can eat past your calorie limit.

ARTICLE - WHY DIETS DON'T WORK

Interesting article thanks. Shame they only mention the band at the end as an option. Hopefully that'll be enough to lead people to start digging into WLS further.
  11. It's not really given me much restriction and if you don't have that with restriction only surgery then what do you have? VSG can sound scary but if you actually want some weight loss then you have to brave I think.

    Finally, well almost..

Congrats - I hope you have a nice and easy recovery!

If we puke up our food...

LOL - that never crossed my mind before, now I just can't believe I missed it!
  14. You'll probably be on clear liquids only for a week post op. Each surgeons exact program varies so if you're concerned ring yours to check. I wouldn't expect to be provided with protein shakes.

    Kettle Bells

Hi Coops, I just read your quote of what I put and I can't believe it put stars. I put something like 'if you're doing a repetition on the right arm'. Actually I think I just remembered it was a sn@tch. According to Urban Dictionary it's a term for referring to "the human female's genitals". Just learnt something new LOL!

Yup, it's working for me. Try using a different browser, eg Firefox, Chrome or Internet Explorer maybe.

Never used it before, but if you get this then it's OK for me (I'm using Google Chrome).

    Kettle Bells

I love kettlebells but I hate Kettleworx. If you're doing a ****** on the right arm for example, that exact sequence with the same irritating comments will be repeated next time which is REALLY IRRITATING!!! It's just a cut and paste set of DVDs and I just can't bring myself to use that DVD set. 10 Minute Solution - Ultimate Kettlebell Fat Burner is a lot more doable. Reviewers complain that a real KB isn't used in the workout which is true, but if you have one then there's nothing to stop you using one and if you don't have one you can just use whatever weights you do have. The 10 Minute DVD has 5 workouts and if you're really keen you can do all 5 workouts for a 50 minute session!

If we puke up our food...

If you're vomiting and you don't feel hungry then I don't think there's much point in 'forcing' down more food as you're likely to be sick again and there's no point in that plus it's probably not going to do your new sleeve any good. Fish would probably be gentler on your sleeve early out. The main thing in the early weeks is to stay hydrated.

    Stuck, sick, & tired

Hi Ahoy, howz it going? Have you tried cutting out dairy for a couple of days? I know it helps me with congestion (dairy is really mucus forming). I've never really had a sinus problem despite my 3 nasal ops. But if it's going to help you should notice a difference after 48 hours of abstaining from dairy (difficult when you're early out I know). Take care. TJ

    Stuck, sick, & tired

Ew, they packed your nose!! Nope then my surgery wasn't as bad as yours. You could also try playing with different nasal sprays. Before I got one that worked for me I had to try a couple. The first one gave me nose bleeds so when my nose ran it would go onto the open skin and then I'd sneeze more and that'd create more irritation. Sorry about your nasal drip, that sounds nasty. Don't they eventually go away? I think I was warned that there was a slim risk I might get that when I had my polyps removed but my surgeon's great and last time I spoke to him that had never happened to one of his patients. Are you taking antihistamine tablets, as that may help some of your sinus/nasal irritation and maybe help you with the nasal spray too. I have to take antihistamines for allergic rhinitis. The tablets are tiny and not expensive (I use Cetirizine Hydrochloride). I hope you find some relief as you're having a tough time and I feel for ya!

Band plication pre-op 2-day clear liquid diet

Hey, BPdude, I'm sorry to hear you had such a hard time. I know I felt tired for many weeks afterwards due to anesthetic and I was only under for one hour! My pinky and ring fingers were a bit swollen. Mine was due to it being near the site where they put my drip in. The Fluid caused it and it went away a couple of days after they removed the drip. I remember swallowing a lot of air for my first couple of weeks, but you sound like you've had a lot more to deal with so it'll probably take a bit longer for your stomach's swelling to go down by which time you shouldn't be swallowing as much air or getting the gurgling. I hope you start to feel better very soon.

Hi Ahoy, you say that taking steroid nasal sprays interrupts your sleep, causes you sore throats, tummy aches, etc. Are you taking it in the evening? That's the only way I can see it going into your throat and stomach. The steroid nasal spays are most effective in the morning anyway (only slightly more effective, but still). If that doesn't do the trick then you should be able to 'wash' away the spray by lying on your back 15 minutes after taking the spray and putting a few drops of saline in your nose. I remember when my ENT surgeon took me off my nasal spray for a month for an experiment and wowzers I felt *AWFUL* without it - like I had a full on cold. 48 hours after going back on the spray I was almost better. I've had nasal polyps removed twice as well as having my deviated septum corrected and believe me, that surgery way easier than the WLS we get so maybe nasal surgery has improved since 6 years ago.
