    pain in left shoulder

That's from the gas they put in you. Nearly everyone gets that. Mine totally went by 4 weeks (and the pain came on less frequently until it just went). Just keep walking and that'll get rid of it sooner.
  2. Congrats - have an awesome 2011!

    NSV!!!!!!!!!!!

Awesome! I hope to get there myself in the not too distant future!

    Day 1 after surgery

Hi Jonesie, you sound like you're doing really well. I remember it really hurting if I hiccuped or burped but that went away by about day 5. All the best and I'm sure everything will continue well!

Losing with sleeve more difficult with PCOS?

Hi Jolly1977, sorry to hear you're having a rough time. Everyone has plateaus, and I'm comforted that some people on here have had them that early and then gone on to lose loads. As for PCOS, I can't advise I'm afraid. Are you sticking to what you've been advised to eat? How many calories and protein are you getting in? I know I need to re-double my efforts and ensure I'm getting my 64oz of water in, as that can really make you get stuck. I'm definitely going to be 100% on track by 1/1/11 at the latest! All the best.

    Looking for reassurance

Hi Shelly, I had a bad previous week as I had a really bad cough and was drinking loads of cough medicine and having cough sweets and I need to get back on track already. Alex posted an article this morning that really inspired me http://www.verticalsleevetalk.com/topic/11872-your-resolution-to-lose-weight-write-it-down-and-succeed/page__pid__102258#entry102258 I'm going to track, track and track what I eat. I'm really early out so haven't got much in the way of recipe suggestions just yet.

    Youtube Journeys

I like massagegoddess amelia, but she's an RNYer and hasn't updated for a while. I'm interested to hear if anyone out there has any other faves!

    New Here

Welcome and congrats on your decision. WRT skin elasticity the consensus on the forum seems to be that the skin will do what this skin will do regardless of what you do (eg lose weight fast/slowly, etc).

    Another 5 months...

Wow - what a difference, you look amazing!

    birth control?

You're meant to be careful 12-18 months after WLS not to get pg. A lot of people who had difficulty having kids before WLS find they're able to conceive, so just cos you couldn't before don't assume that's the case now. Have you thought about the contraceptive injection? You have to get it done every 10 weeks.

    Newbie to Vertical Sleeve Website!!

I know what you mean. Sadly it's not a magic bullet, just a tool to help weight loss. Hopefully it'll get a bit easier once you're on proper solids. One thing that struck a chord with me is an article that Alex posted about writing down what you eat. I'm raring up to sign up to WW online so I can write down everything I eat there, that way every mouthful counts. I'm gonna do it by Jan at the latest! The article suggested sites like livestrong.com and dailyplate.com and fitday.com has also been recommended in a couple of WLS books I've read. Hopefully you'll be on more solid food by New Year and then you can start to track properly as liquids go down way too easily. Good luck.
  12. Excellent news! Can you take anti-histamines for it? I use a nasal spray and cetirizine hydrachloride tablets. I kept off the tablets for ~3 days post op, but they're tiny (size of a sweetner) so I went back on them once liquids were easy to swallow. All the best for tomorrow!
  13. I was told that NSAIDs (of which ibuprofen is one) were a bad idea pre-surgery as they thin the blood, so I'd check with the doc before having anything like that.

HOW BAD DOES IT REALLY HURT after surgery?

OMG sex on day 7 - I'd be too scared of catching my stitches!!

    Post-op checkups after Mexico surgery

I saw my GP 1.5 weeks post surgery. I thought I maybe had an infected port, which he took a look at and says was fine - which it was! If it puts your mind at rest then why not? At least you'll get to inform them of what you've had done and I showed mine the letter my surgeon had written.
  16. I'd phone the surgeon and check with them.

HOW BAD DOES IT REALLY HURT after surgery?

Hi Kimmes, I've not had any nausea or vomiting. Although I do recommend you get a pill crusher for the Nexium anti-nausea tablets as they're really gross tasting and get stuck in your teeth when you chew them up (I'd brush my teeth after I could get everything out). I had to take them for 4 weeks after surgery - yuk!

HOW BAD DOES IT REALLY HURT after surgery?

I've not had kids, but I can't imagine it being as bad (esp kids without drugs). I found the plication painful, but the painkillers dealt with the pain pretty well. It definitely is way less painful than when I had a pin inserted in my tibia!

Nervous about my appt. with the Dr. 2morro

Don't be nervous, it sounds like they're being very thoro, have your best interests at heart and are going to help you sort out your deficiencies. Much rather have any deficiencies picked early before you start to experience any symptoms.

    Failed Psych Eval

Yeah, I just had a 20 minute chat with the psych AFTER my surgery!! She was just making sure that I had realistic expectations of what the surgery could achieve. I just decided that my health was worth the financial investment so I went to Mexico self-pay.

    Deliberate slow weight loss?

Hmm... I'd be careful with that, as I've been told (by my surgeon and WLS for Dummies - my WLS bible) that with WLS you have a 'window of opportunity' of 6-9 months (consider it more 6 months) after which time your stomach has stretched a little and you can eat more (it's still good for maintaining though).

    What's your favourite purred food

Hi Wildorchids, I went slightly ahead of my surgeons guidelines as I was feeling so well and had pretty much anything so long as I chewed it to apple sauce consistency. I'm 4 weeks out now and am officially permitted to do that. I mainly had Weight Watcher ready meals but didn't eat the carb half of the meal, apart from when it came to sausage and mash (yum) I'd have half of the whole meal and save the other half for another day! I'm trying to add more veg as I find so much protein is constipating (I didn't experience the 'never trust a fart' problem), so tinned carrots are the ticket for me right now as they're pretty mushy and only take a few seconds to heat in the microwave.
