    Sleep study on Wednesday!

I had a couple of sleep studies a few years ago. It did take me a bit longer to drop off but you get there eventually and they still managed to get accurate information. I had my uvula removed a few weeks later, which was a success and I no longer have sleep apopnea (apopnea is quite a rare and a milder version of apnea). I was so grateful to get properly diagnosed and treated and I've not looked back since!

Scheduled for VGS on Feb 1

I'm in the early days still, but would like to hear what others have to say on the subject.

    VSG Scheduled for 1/12/11!

Congrats Tandybo, RNY sounds scary with the risk of bowel rotations, etc. You'll do great with the sleeve I'm sure!

    loose skin ?s

Sorry I don't know about that. When I've lost weight in the past (same starting point as this time and I got 40lbs down) it wasn't much of a problem for me (I'm hoping to get down lower this time tho).

    belly button pain?

Thanks HetKF, referred pain is one I've heard mentioned before, but it never occurred to me that that could be the cause. Now I feel a bit happier and not so concerned about it.

    belly button pain?

I had 6 incisions (one extra one coz of adhesions) and I didn't have one near the pain. I've not really had this pain for 72 hours now, so fingers crossed it's gone!
  7. Cool. The info I had was probably correct at the time I found it out.
  8. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you and my prayers are with you.

    Back to Work....

I've only really been taking chicken soup so I'm keen to other people's suggestions.

    TOMMORROW 1/3/11 IS MY DAY!!!!

Hi Nina, I'm sure you'll do great. I've heard that revision people do pretty well in the long run, as they have realistic expectations as they've already had WLS. All the best for tomorrow!

    Surgery in 2 days

You'll probably have some hanging around pre-op, so a magazine would be good. They snuck in my anaesthetic so I didn't even know I was going under (normally I like telling the anaesthetist it's not working! ). I was really really sleepy after my surgery and barely got out of bed the day of my op and just slept. I didn't really read much while I was in hospital as I was either walking up and down the corridor with my drip or relaxing/dozing in bed. BTW take some lip balm with you, clean underwear, toiletries, slippers and a dressing gown. All the best!

    Turning Over a New Leaf

Hey Kris, all the best for your surgery. You really sound like you've got realistic expectations - go you!
  13. I had Dr Lopez Corvala @ Angeles Health in Tijuana. I'm 5 weeks out and I haven't experienced any nausea or vomited at all. I wasn't getting much fluid down at first so stayed in hospital for 3 nights on a drip. By day 4 I was feeling loads better!

BTW congrats on the weight loss!

    Back to Work!!

The main thing for me was feeling tired. I guess that's due to the anaesthetic mainly. Luckily I told them that I had to do light duties and they were fine with that. Now that I'm 5 weeks out I'm pretty much OK. All the best for your return and stick to the lean chicken salads once you're allowed solids as I imagine that the temptation will be tough!

Pros and Cons of having surgery in Mexico

I'm in the UK and they don't offer the plication here. The only place in Europe is in the Czech Republic, but they only operate on a BMI >35, so that wasn't an option either. I wasn't prepared to have 80% of my stomach removed and run the risk of leaks or have no second chance if I ever got oesophageal cancer (no I've never smoked). Yesterday I joined WW online so that's taking care of the nutrition side of things for me (yes I'm getting in my 60 grams of protein in). I also read a lot of books on WLS, the best for follow up being WLS Cookbook for Dummies. I didn't really have an alternative but to go abroad, but my husband did insist that I go to proper hospital just in case anything happened, which is why I went to Dr Lopez Corvala @ Angeles Health in Tijuana (plus he's the only surgeon in Mexico that uses the Endoflip which scopes the size of new stomach - check out youtube for info on Endoflip). Staying closer to home would've been good, but given that it wasn't an option I'm happy with how things have turned out. My surgeon wasn't the cheapest in Mexico as when you're talking about your health I didn't want to skimp. HTH a bit!

    loose skin ?s

Hi Lunarose, the consensus seems to be when people have posted on this previously is that the skin will do what it'll do and you can't do much about it. You can try and tone up which may help a little, but that's it really. HTH.

My Husband called me a "cheap date"

Ha ha - I'm a cheap date too... don't even need to order a drink with food, just tap water to save the waiter from keeping offering you a drink!

    belly button pain?

I was still having occasional sharp pain up until 2 days ago in my belly just above my right hip (again not near an incision), but I'm hoping it's now gone. I'll be 5 weeks out tomorrow. Pain meds did seem to deal with the pain OK, but I was just concerned as to what it was. Hopefully it'll go for you soon.
  20. I'm 4.5 weeks out and I've been really good, sometimes to the point of thinking did I have an op! Anyway, I get a bad sharp stabbing pain in the lower right of my belly and was wondering if anyone else had this (FYI this is nowhere any of my incisions). It feels like a really chronic stitch (you know the type you get from running) and I wouldn't ever call a doc about that - before everyone recommends that! I did manage to get one very low impact Step session in the other day, but this hurts just to walk around at the mo. I want to get exercising by New Year at the latest (ie Saturday) and was just wondering if other people had had similar experiences. Should I just take painkillers when needed? The pain comes and goes and I'm worried about constantly popping painkillers which is why I've been holding off.

Occasional pain in lower right belly 4.5 weeks out

Hi Amy, the pain's just above my right hip. I've been mostly OK for the last 48 hours. I did a decent workout for 1.5 hours yesterday morning and had a few seconds of pain in bed last night, so I don't think it's related to that. Fingers crossed it's mostly gone, but I'm just curious as to what it was!
  22. I went with Dr Lopez Corvala at Angeles Health as I wanted a proper hospital, plus their guarantee below: "Angeles Price Assurance : The cost for any complications that may occur during your procedure and while you are at the hospital will be absorbed by the hospital." [at the bottom of the link below] http://healthtraveltechnologies.com/htg/ahi/AHIFaqGastricSleevePlication/ If I had to choose again I still go with him. FYI he's the only surgeon in Mexico that uses the Endoflip which scopes the size of the stomach (search youtube and there are several videos explaining how the Endoflip works).
  23. Hi formerVBG. GPS is plication. With the sleeve they they cut away 80% of your stomach. With the plication they fold it in on itself so no risk of staple line leak. See here for a diagram .
