    Failure

I'm so sorry to hear about your problems. The only revision I might contemplate would be duodenal switch (but I'm 'only' in the overweight category so this'd only be theoretical contemplation on my part). You've seriously got to research if you do want it, as it's a serious op and you need to be committed to taking numerous vitamins and 100g protein/day if you're a lady (more for guys). To qualify the BMI is 35 with 2 co-morbities or BMI 40. There's more info here http://www.obesityhe...fore-you-chose/ Don't bother with the ROSE/POSE technique or StomaphyX as I hear people only lose ~20lb and then regain it (they staple the inside of your stomach with a device through your throat). I've been pondering band over plication too (I'm guessing band over sleeve could be an option too), but you say previously had the band so I won't go any further on the subject of erosions, slippage, port flips, the elusive sweet spot, etc! Info on the 5 day pouch test is available on youtube on people's experiences, although info on what it involves is here and http://www.5daypouchtest.com/ I sincerely wish you the best and don't give up... keep searching until you find something that works for you.

    Please help

Hi Randy, sorry you're having such a rough time. Congratulations on the amazing weight loss though. How about trying something like runny scrambled eggs (add plenty of milk) and just nibble at that. I'm sure you'll start feeling a lot better very soon and your appetite will increase and you'll reminisce about the days when you could eat so little. Relax and take it easy, you've had major surgery so get plenty of R&R until you're feeling better, which will roll around soon enough and this'll just become a distant memory. Hang in there and remind yourself why you went for this surgery. There are so many people on here saying how they 'LOVE' their sleeve, so you just gotta wait a little longer until you also feel that way. All the best!
  3. Hey, I totally understand you feeling bad, but the point here is you didn't give up. The band didn't work out but you had the strength and determination to try something else. I think you'll just have to hang in there and add patience to your personality strengths. It's also recommended that you measure yourself when you're not losing lbs as you may be losing inches.
  4. Maybe revisions are more likely to be slower losers? I know there's anecdotal evidence that 2 stage duodenal switches are slower losers than one stage because the body's already adapted the lower calorie intake. I'm wondering if that'll be the case because you were already restricted. I guess at the end of the day what's important is that you lose whether it's fast or slow. I know it's tough being patient but at the end of the if you're a loser that's what's important.

    SURGERY MAY 7TH

Hi pcapo, checkout some of LilMissDiva and Tiffykins' posts. They were band to sleeve conversions and they're doing obscenely well!! I think they have pics on their profiles so you could look there too. BTW respect to you for not giving up that takes strength and guts!!

    I'm on the other side

Congrats on your surgery. I'm sorry you're having a tough recovery but hopefully you'll have great success soon. It's good you're sounding upbeat though. BTW you're brave giving yourself shots, my DH injected my anti-coagulants for me as I'm too wimpy!

    Liquid diet crisis

I probably didn't have quite that much until I was 3 or 4 weeks out. I was allowed anything pureed or chewed to mush when I was on mush, but as I say just concentrate on fluids in the early days.

    Liquid diet crisis

Hi Meggie, I didn't count carbs. I've been scared off from that a bit since I did Atkins for 10 days and gained 7lbs - and I stuck to the diet 100%!! I'm just happy doing low carb rather than super low (plus I get constipated if I go too low).

    Liquid diet crisis

You can do it without Protein drinks. I'm intolerant to powdered milk so can't have them. The main thing post op is to get your fluids in. I was allowed mushies after 2 weeks so started to get my protein then. I've hit 100 grams in a day no probs post op.
  14. I was 'naughty' when I went on hol to Egypt in February and I stayed the same!! I went to the same hotel pre WLS and gained 4lbs when I was trying to be good!! Be brave and weigh... it may not be as bad as you think.

    IBS and the sleeve

Mine went away for about a month, but as I was able to eat more it came back. I'm still intolerant to all the same things (sweetner, oats, powdered milk, mushrooms, etc) but no extra intolerances. The sleeve seems to give people better restriction than GPS so you should stay like I was early out for a lot lot longer (hopefully permanently).

WTH?! I need to stop reading!!!

Being scared is perfectly normal, but the re-assuring thing is that those that did experience leaks would still do it again (that I've read about/seen on youtube). DS does provide the best weight loss, but you really need to research to know what you're getting yourself into if you go that route. For a start you have to have a BMI of 40 or more or 35 with 2 co-morbities. With DS you don't experience dumping - you get that with RNY. With DS the bowel is re-sected to cause malabsorption for better weight loss. You malabsorb 80% of the fat you consume but also nutrients and you need to be serious about getting in your Vitamins and 100grams of Protein if you're a lady (not too sure of the amount for guys). You also need to get your blood quaterly initially to check if you need to up any vitamins or protein. OH has a DS board you that's a great place for info if you're interested. The good thing about VSG is that you can revise to DS if your weight loss isn't sufficient, but you may well not need it (that's mostly how VSG came about). DSers are meant to be prone to diarrhea, but there's a lot of talk on OH about DSers having constipation!! I did end up having to go into hospital a week after having my uvula removed (it's in your throat and nothing to do WLS) so I had that concern about WLS but I did just fine. I don't think I've read of anyone have that happen, so the advice of sip sip sip must be working. Keep reading and posting, as there's always more you can learn and I wish you every success in your Quest for WLS.

Obstacle 1: How to disappear for 5 days

RE-POSTED, AS IT DIDN'T GO IN RIGHT FIRST TIME. BTW I'd seriously research your surgeon, there are a lot of posts on here and you can enter their surname in the search field at the top right of the field. I'm a believer in having the best surgeon you can (sadly I don't think GPS was the best surgery but that's another story).

3500 Calories per pound of fat?

Some of it coulda been water weight. Also carrying around 100 extra lbs is a workout in itself (that's partly why it gets harder towards the end).
