    I did it too!!

    Wow, that's very impressive. Congrats!

    The Straw....

I say try it and see what works for you. I was given one with every single 'meal' in hospital post op... meals being liquids only for the first couple of weeks!

Carnie Wilson made the news today

Maybe she'll be able to get something good out of the publicity and make a come back. I hope she manages to sort things out professionally and healthwise.

    Fatigue

Yes, I was really shattered for the first month and a half after surgery. The anesthetic just makes me feel so tired (I've had this with plenty of other ops too). Just take it easy and enjoy your summer break. You should be fine by the time your break's over.
  5. At the 14 day stage I was permitted mushies, so assuming you have similar advice you should be fine if you chewed it really well as you're 2.5 weeks out. Carbs aren't necessarily that bad, but as you can't eat much this early out you need to try to concentrate on protein as much as you can. You'll be OK as it didn't hurt and you didn't eat to the point of vomiting. Don't beat yourself up and just go back to eating protein first!

    Not sure what to think......

I wonder if the nurse worked for an MGB surgeon and somehow thought it'd entice people to get MGB (it's stupid whatever her reason for saying this, but I can't think of a sane reason why someone would say MGB=VSG). Also MGB is a pain insurance-wise. With the surgeon I looked into you have to pay him and then claim back the money from your insurance. If people are interested they have to do their own checking, it's pretty easy to find out the differences between VSG and MGB and the most minimal research would reveal this.

    Not sure what to think......

MGB is nothing like VSG. They don't remove any of the stomach and they make a pouch and re-route your intestines. There's no intestinal re-routing with VSG. With MGB many experience dumping. MGB isn't practised by many surgeons at all and I'm very dubious about the few that do. There's plenty of info on youtube about MGB but it's all publicity. I've not found any posts by patients themselves. I suspect there's some sort of NDA on them as there's absolutely nothing out there that I can find.
  8. I wanted 10 days. I have a car with manual gears, the clutch no different than the break for me.

    Is the ACID forever now?

I think she meant PPI, a Proton Pump Inhibitor AKA an antacid.

    Help - I'm still hungry

I think some docs are just way more cautious and don't want to mess up their stats with patients having complications. 9 days on clear liquids is tough - I remember being so happy when I could have yogurt drink and cream of tomato soup. Hang in there - all this is going to seem easy once you're allowed some proper food!

    Lab Rats

Hi chowchows, sorry, I only just noticed your question today when someone else replied to this thread. For the moment I'm done with plication - it just doesn't work as far as I'm concerned. I've still not fully paid off my plication so I'm holding off doing anything right now. Sarah Elsekhawy (over on the VST board) got revised from GPS to VSG this week. She was a year out from her GPS and it just didn't work for her either. Sarah posted 2 days after getting sleeved and she was sounding really well. She said that to that point VSG didn't hurt more than GPS.

    Help - I'm still hungry

For the first 7 days post op I was on clear liquids only, so that being the case then I'd expect to be hungry. Liquids go right through your sleeve, so until you get onto mushies I'd say there isn't much you can do about this I'm afraid.

    Why sugar free???

Hi shordee, when you're as early out as you are I don't think it's as critical, as you're struggling to get enough calories in. As you recover and the swelling goes down you'll be able to get a lot more and yogurt is a slider food, so low sugar is a better choice (not everyone on here does low fat - it depends if you've allowed enough calories in your plan for full fat).

    tickers

Hi Lmom, I can see you've not set it up yet. LilMissDiva's tutorial here http://www.verticalsleevetalk.com/topic/13516-ticker-tutorial-for-vst-lbt-with-pictures/ might help. It has pictures and this forum works exactly the same as VST and LBT.
  16. I think it's just down to chance whether you'll have problems with certain foods after. Theoretically the sleeve shouldn't cause intolerances but it does to some (intolerances are a lot more common in surgery that re-routes your intestines). Milk seems to cause people a lot of problems although fermented milk seems to be better tolerated. So yogurt and cheese tend to be better. You can also try getting some lactose free milk. I introduced things slowly once I was further out and experienced no adverse reactions to anything I was OK with before.

Failed gastric plication to gastric sleeve

Hi Crystal, my story's pretty much the same as Sarah's, except I was something like plication number 150 for Dr Lopez Corvala. I've not had a revision as my op was 7 months ago and I'm still paying it off.

Failed gastric plication to gastric sleeve

Hi Sarah, congrats. You're so brave having a revision as it must've been a more complex surgery. Does it hurt more than the plication did? Your the first GPS revision I've heard of. You'll have to keep us posted on how it's different once you're further out as you have a unique perspective. I wish all the best for a super speedy recovery, I'm sorry you're going through it all again, but you're sounding very positive!

I hope you get improvement soon. Good luck for your surgery!

    I need some SERIOUS help!!!!!!!!!!

Cutting out dairy does the trick for me. It vastly reduces phlegm and mucus. Follow it for a day or 2 and you should start to notice a difference.

    Had VSG 2 days ago...

A lot of people on here start feeling LOADS better on day 4 (me included), so hang in there just a little longer and hopefully you'll experience the same thing!

How big of a screw-up did I make?

There's not much you can do either way, so get straight back on the wagon and follow things to the letter!

    Kelly, Aceves or Alvarez

What death was that - a patient?? What happened? Dr Aceves seems to be the recommended go to sleeve doc, but I don't have any personal insight on that one. You peaked my curiosity when you mentioned someone died though.

    2 Major Issues - Advice Please :)

    1. I wasn't eating anything like a boiled egg as early out as you are. Maybe if you add some mayo or runny yogurt for it to slide down may help (you do want slider foods at the mo while you've got so much swelling). Scrambled eggs would probably be better for you at this stage though. You really need to work on getting in your fluids. Stuff like soup counts and you really should be getting them in by the time you're 17 days out. Carry a bottle with you everywhere you go. A bottle with a sports cap is more likely to help you keep sipping. I have a cup on my desk and as soon as it starts getting low I pour some more water out just to make sure I keep drinking. Have you tried any protein drinks to help you get some more protein in? Just buy small quantities/samples as most people have to try several to find something they really like. 2. Take your pain meds - I had stabbing pains until I was about a month out and I wished I'd taken more painkillers. I'd also see if you can see your PCP and if they can help, but I'd take whatever meds I'm allowed to take until seeing the doc. I had one incision that looked pretty bad (ie a bit infected) until 10 days out which is when I managed to see my PCP and he looked and said it was fine. A day or 2 later I was able to agree with him, but your doc will have a better eye for post op incisions, so see him in person!
