  1. Tamz! Didn't your doctor tell you these things up front?! Was it a huge surprise to see that you were going to be on liquids for so long? Again, my doctor didn't let me move to full liquids until day 10 and that was IF thin liquids were sitting well on my tummy. You're lucky that this soon out you have a lot of variety in your diet, heck just walk down the soup aisle! Anything there you can blend into a liquid, even if you have to strain it afterwards. Day 15 post op

I used heavy cream to thin out the greek yogurt. While it has more Protein in it, it's very thick and just kinda sat there in my tummy. meh...didn't feel great at all. The heavy cream gave it a nice creamy texture. Milk is something that I can't have because it bothers my tummy A LOT, but the fat in heavy cream kind of "buffers" it in the tummy and it was fine. I also wouldn't try to eat 4 ounces yet...if ever. I'm allowed 2 ounces but that's after healing, not while I'm swollen still. I can tell you this, after a few bites, I'm done. I can't eat any more and I can't sit there for an hour and wait for it to go down. I put it away until my next meal.
  3. I would stay away from anything with celery in it! Maybe the cheap kinds of soup don't have real celery but I wouldn't chance it. Other than that, y'all are lucky, I wasn't eating that much my first few days post op! I'm on day 21 or 22 now and JUST graduated to soft and blended foods. You will be amazed at how fast the time flies. I've lived on Gatorade for the most part because whats left of my tummy hates me.
  4. did you have an epidural for pain? Sometimes those will cause a nasty headache if the spinal Fluid is leaking from the puncture wound. Caffeine withdraws can be a biatch as well. Other than that I would say dehydration. Get some Gatorade and sip sip sip to replace those electrolytes! Renee`
  5. I forgot to add, my doctor also said to take chewable or liquid dramamine for the nausea. This totally worked for me but it does make you a bit sleepy! Renee`

How Easy Is It to Stretch The Sleeve?

I weigh and measure everything as well and I'm at 20 days. I didn't at first because I couldn't eat more than a bite or two and then I was full. I still can't eat a full 2 ounces but I'm getting closer and as the swelling goes down I will be able to eat it. I would seriously weigh food at 2 ounces or measure it at 1/4 cup and DON'T eat past that, then you won't get that "UGH! one bite too many!" feeling. Why push it, ya know? Renee`

    New Sleever

Yes it's the same thing! As prepared as I was before surgery I forgot it all afterwards. LOL Speaking of NUT(s), yours are bigger than mine...I wouldn't watch the surgery before because I was afraid if I really knew what they were going to do to me, I'd chicken out lol Good luck on your journey!
  8. Hang in there...it gets better very quickly! My dr told me to take a teaspoon or two Gatorade G2 at a time every 15 minutes and be diligent with my Nexium twice a day to help combat the nausea. Don't worry, this part of it is really short lived and it happens quickly like "oh! I feel better now!" lol xoxo Renee`

    Staying Hydrated

My Doctor said that adding a bit of lemon or lime juice to Water sometimes helps a lot and doesn't make it sickly sweet. A lot of people apparently have problems with just plain water and this is his solution to it. Renee`
  10. I take tiny sips during meals but only enough to wet my mouth and throat really. I've never drank enough that it backed up (and don't want to! ) or made me feel sick. Tiny sips are different than a gulp!

    5 Days Post Op Issues

I made it through a hysterectomy with flying colors and NO pain meds, came home the next day and BBQ'd, drove to get my prescriptions filled and halloween candy for that night. I have to say though, this surgery was a whole different ballgame. I have severe fibromyalgia & Chronic Fatigue syndrome so I knew going in my pain might be unmanageable but I was not prepared for the reality of it. It's like nothing I'd ever been through before and I mean that, this pain was no joke. Pain is pain, no matter your high or low tolerance for it...it hurts and it affects everyone differently. All I can say is I'm so hoping you feel better soon! I've seen your positive comments on the board from the time I joined and I can't wait for you to get back to your perky self! *hugs!* Renee`

    Is it possible

To break out of the stall up your Protein and calorie intake a bit so your body will come out of that "starvation mode" that it's in. Make sure you're getting in all your liquids and yes, it will come off. Your sleeve won't fail you, it's what you put into your body that has the ability to fail you. Make good choices and trust me, you can't go wrong! Renee`
  13. Just hang on for a few days Tamz. I also left you a pm with my number in it. Call me anytime! I feel wonderful now! By the end of week 1 I was coming around to thinking "ok, I think I'll live..." Week two was a LOT better but still hard to get all my liquids in but I was excited because I could move into the full liquids stage and the pain had drastically decreased and now, day 19 (this is the exciting part!) I've lost 28 pounds and I KNOW it was all worth it! Give yourself time to rest and heal and you'll look back on this as just a blip in time and a minor bump in the road and oh so worth it! *hugs!* Renee`
  14. I know Meggie set her phone alarm at first. I never did because I slept A LOT at first and wasn't going to be up 24 hours a day to drink. My nap times definitely cut into some of my quality drinking time. My Dr. said at the minimum 38 ounces of liquids a day and I was told to drink gatorade because of diarrhea issues at first and him not wanting me to get dehydrated and lose electrolytes. I stayed with the Gatorade because Water was gross to me. I'm now 19 days out and I still can't get all my Protein in because for some reason it's really hard on my tummy and it comes back out...both ends. Not fun! I can't find one that agrees with me so I'm getting protein any way I can right now but not close to enough. At any rate, yep, your way will work just fine and remember to include your Popsicle in with your liquids....it counts too!

    Will I look OLD?

I look at it like this: I'm 41 years old but trapped in a body that feels 91. When I lose weight I'll have a fit (inside at least!) body and I'll have years and years to think about doing something about my wrinkles or not...my choice. A young death takes away those choices...I choose life, wrinkles and all! Renee`

    Will this be a promblem?

LOL When I saw your topic I was like "wth?! Who in their right mind would perform surgery on an infant?!" mkay, dumb blond moment over now! If you're not breast feeding I don't see it as a problem but yeah, a surgeon would know more about it. Renee`

    I M IN MEXICO!

You're in GREAT hands and he is an amazing surgeon so no worries at all Mina! Dr. Campos will do most of your after-care after your surgery and he's wonderful as well. Let us know about all of it when you're able to! Renee`
  18. The salad won't hurt but with a liquid diet + Fiber = lots of bathroom time maybe LOL I wouldn't worry about it just don't do it again young lady! lol Renee`

    Sugar/Alcohol

uhm...the fast answer is: cookie yes. Wine no. The long answer is I understand a bite of a cookie once in a while or something sweet, but don't let it become a habit because after all, you're doing this surgery to lose weight, right? Why put crap into your body at this point? Wait until you're at the maintenance stage of the game, then worry about Cookies LOL Sleeve patients don't experience "dumping syndrome" like the DS or the RNY so it won't make you sick. Wine or any alcohol is going to be really hard because you'll have a very small tummy and so you may absorb alcohol (and medications) at a faster rate. They advise you not to drive after even a SIP of alcohol because of this. It's not worth the risk. If you're home and not driving? Try a glass of wine. The worst that can happen is you're crocked and your hubby takes advantage of the situation LOL Renee`

    NO COFFEEE POST OP

Caffeine in any form will dehydrate you. Especially in the summer time you have to really watch out for that. I know of a few people that ended up in the E.R. getting bags of fluids pumped into them via a cute little I.V....ICK! lol Like Tiffykins said, I laid off all coffee and diet coke (the only things I drank per-surgery days...yep, dying inside a little bit!) because of the dehydration factor but also because coffee really amps up the acids in your newly sleeved tummy and it impedes the healing process.
  21. YAY Tamz! I'm so excited for you and your new start on life. I knew you could do it! The nausea I had for the day of surgery and then on into a little bit in the early morning. Just ask for something for nausea and they'll give you something in the I.V., this also may help you sleep, which you need to do if you're not walking. Hard to walk with a bedpan in your hand while you're dry heaving. First hand experience...don't ask! LOL Chin up girl, you did it! You have my phone number if ya need to talk. XOXO Renee`

    Constipation

Dulcolax is a stool softener and not a laxative so it won't make you go, just soften things up so when you do go it's not so er...traumatic? LOL you know what I mean! Renee`

    Is coughing dangerous?

post-op I threw up so much that I started throwing up fresh / red blood and then I fell out of bed later to crash test the surgeons work. The next day for my leak test I did fine, nothing wrong! Don't worry, you'll be ok, it's just scary right now
  24. Tamz, in all honesty I got pretty quiet the night before as a calm settled over me. I was scared spitless inside at first but then I was just ok, I can't explain it. If you weren't nervous and reaching for the phone to cancel and then struggling to hold yourself back, I'd be worried about you! LOL What you're going through is completely normal. Renee`
  25. Between 3 and 6 months your appetite will return to normal and you will again "love food" which is why you have to train yourself early out to be vigilant about what you're putting in your mouth and how you're eating. Use this "I'm not hungry!" phase to re-train yourself so that when your appetite does return, you're ready to do battle with it if need be. Renee`
