Are Bandsters like Brides???
readytolosemomof5 replied to NJGirl32's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I too am going to True Results, and have been assigned to Dr Reilly. I have completed everything but the EGD, and was told by my advocate that Dr Reilly will do it, I have been waiting since 4/29 to hear from their office about getting it done, and have heard nothing. I'm not overly anxious at this time sine I don't plan to be banded until late July, early August, but still...I wonder did you have any issues? Or did you go somewhere else to get your EGD? Also, I've not actually met Dr Reilly yet, what was your opinion of him? -
Insurance question
readytolosemomof5 replied to missjoli's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
The group that I'm going to- True Results- would've walked me through the whole process had I chosen to use my insurance, and would've done it all- the physician directed diet plan, nutritionist consult, everything. The only reason I am not going through my insurance is that I would have to come up with 8 grand out of pocket for the deductable, and the surgery only costs 9,900 all inclusive self pay. But the way I am doing it, I only have to come up with $400 cash thanks to our health flex spending account, and guaranteed financing through True Results for the rest. My goal is to be banded late July, early August. So definately check around to different surgeons, groups. Hook up with people that are near you that have had the band, make sure you check out all your options. -
Insurance question
readytolosemomof5 replied to missjoli's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
It won't hurt to check it out. My insurance paperwork says it won't cover weight loss surgery, but after digging around a little bit, I found out that it did! I'm still not going to use it, but that's another story. Also, keep checking around, there are financing options, healthcare flex spending accounts, etc. Good Luck! -
After Surgery 8S
readytolosemomof5 replied to kridmccl's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
That's awful that you remember waking up before you were extubated. What you describe is actually what happens, but you shouldn't remember. It's difficult enough to watch, I couldn't imagine. I hope things start looking up for you! -
Hello??? Does lap band work???
readytolosemomof5 replied to PamelaLVN's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
also, your body adjusts to your "new" normal intake, and as previously fights to keep every calorie and you plateau. Your body needs a metabolism boost to remind it that you aren't starving to death, and then a new drop in calories will again get you losing. Also, it doesn't make sense that your physician only wants you taking in 300 calories a day, that seems awful extreme. -

Need support to get through pre-op diet!!

You can also go to any pharmacy and purchase protien powder mix to add to your drinks. Mix my drink, powder, and ice in a blender and voila! Milkshake! Or something like that anyways. This makes it more palatable to me. -
Newbie to forum... and to my band!
readytolosemomof5 replied to Amy M.'s topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Like everyone else said there are a lot of protien shake option for vegetarians. Just keep in mind a good protien drink has 20gms or more of protien per serving, 7gms or less of carbs/sugar, 5gms or less of fat (all per serving). Have you tried mixing with almond milk? Haven't tried that mixture yet, tho almond milk alone isn't too bad. Also check out the special K drink mixes, some of those also have added protien. -
Need support to get through pre-op diet!!
readytolosemomof5 replied to southernrootslbc's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I am very nervous about starting my pre-op diet, I have to drink protien drinks for 2 meals, and one healthy meal a day, with unlimited broth, coffee, tea, anything low sugar liquids. I am required to lose at least 10 pounds before surgery, am I am scared I won't be able to do it. -

Unsolicited advice...Errr!
readytolosemomof5 replied to ete77's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I think the hardest for me was that despite trying different medically supervised programs, diet, excercise, medication for who knows how long, my Primary Care Provider still did not support my decision to look into WLS. She refused to refer anybody, so I had to research on my own. It still amazes me that there are still so many doctors, PA's, and NP's out there that don't believe in WLS. Or maybe they just want to keep us fat and sick to make more money? -
Just wanted to say "Hi" to everyone, I'm a newbie, and not really good at the small talk. So the intro said I should tell you more about myself. I am 35 yrs old, 5"2 and 251lbs, the heaviest I have ever been. I have been battling my weight since I was 13, when I really "blossomed". I have 5 children, and progressively gained with each baby, and never lost the weight, and put more on after. But now I have high blood pressure for the last 8 yrs, and high cholesterol, diabetes, joint issues, etc., and I feel bad about not being able to be the mother I want to be with my kids. I can't play with them at the park, or go on bike rides with them, stuff like that. Due to my blood pressure meds, I can't really be outside for more than 5-10m, or my skin fries like bacon (not a good thing since I live in Texas). I'm also a registered nurse, I work in labor and delivery, and I literally move all day long at work. It's really embarrassing to have patients that are 9mo pregnant and only be half my size. It's also hard to talk to patients about eating and drinking right or appropriate weight gain when it's obvious that I myself have a problem, I haven't gotten banded yet, trying to get the party started though, but at my initial assessment, the NP told me I needed to get a sleep study and EGD done before they will set up a date or pre-op or anything. I figure this will set back my banding about a month or more- I don't mind waiting, afterall, I've been overweight for over 20 years, but I am bummed because my family and I are going on vacation in July, so do I go ahead and wait until after so I don't have to worry about the post-op stuff? Or say the heck with it, and do it anyways. I am going through True Results in Houston, they assign a patient advocate to each client, whom also have been banded. And although I have only been there a couple of times, my advocate has already done more for me than she'll ever know. My insurance initially said they would cover the surgery if I completed the program, but after doing everything they required, they decided they wanted me to do more, and then I could never get a straight answer from them . It's so obvious they just don't want to pay up. So when I talked to my advocate about the runaround they were giving, she guaranteed me financing. I wish everyone good luck in their endeavors, and wish me luck, I'll keep you updated.
