    Hair Loss?

I got my band 6 mo ago, and haven't had had too many issues to deal with. Until now. For the last couple of weeks my hair has been falling out in gobs, especially when I wash it. Now, I was warned that this could happen while I was actively losing, but I haven't lost anything for the greater of 2 months now, so does anyone have any idea of what is causing this? I'm fairly confident that this has something to do with the band as I have never had this problem before.
  2. Has anyone out there dealt with a stomach virus with their lapband? I am the last in my family to get it, and it seems to be worse for me than it was for everyone else. I don't know if it just coincidince, or maybe because of the band. I can't vomit, but having extreme bouts of nausea. I have survived on power ade the last two days, and hoping to be somewhat back to normal tomorrow so I can get back to work. My biggest issue is trying to get enough Water in, between not having desire to take anything in, and getting nauseous when I do. And yes, I know for sure it is due to this virus due to all the body aches/pains, headache, diarrhea. I just need some advice if anyone has it.

    So disheartened :(

Yes, I agree with everyone here. Hound your insurnace company as much as it takes. I warn you tho that sometimes you still get the shaft. I hounded mine, and they approved my six month plan that I already did, but then they added stipulations to the bargain. This is why I ended up being self-pay. I was afraid they would keep adding stipulations as I met them that it would have made it impossible. What I don't understand is how health insurance companies can be the way they are about WLS, but they don't mind paying for all the co-morbity costs associated with obesity- and not make people complete "programs" for that.

    Pregnant with surprise baby #6

I know it is difficult and frustrating to see the end in site, just to find another curve in the road. But once you get used to the idea of the new baby, things will be brighter. It's okay not to be happy about it right now. I was extremely about having my last one until I was about 7mo along and I was told that they thought something was wrong with her brain. I then realized that I wasn't really upset anymore, I just thought I was. BTW, everything turned out wrong, but what a scary time! Oh, and I actually LOST weight during my last pregnancy. So who knows, maybe chasing around triplets (I couldn't imagine! You are a strong lady), and this pregnancy, will melt that weight off . Either way, good luck and best wishes.

Newbie who is 15 weeks post surgery

I'm sorry you are going through such a rough time. Have you spoken to your doctor about not feeling any different? Maybe they need to do a fill under flouroscopy to make sure everything is as it should be.

    Pains to expect following fill

Is it possible that the fluid did not go into the band but rather into the abdomen? Typically, when you are lying down, any fluid that is put into the abdomen moves up to the shoulders, causing pain.

    Band Bashers

When I first started looking into WLS, I did not know about the band. The only procedure I was aware of was gastric bypass. I knew about this, because as a nurse, I took care of numerous patients that had complications, some of whom died. Complications varied from leaks, malnutricion, and perferated stomachs from overeating. The thought of getting a bypass terrified me. I scheduled consultations only to back out before going. When I finally found out about the band by an ad on facebook, it was like a light went on. I researched immensely, and decided that this was the right choice for me. I have banded for 5 weeks now, and I love my band. And although I know that I am not in "the green zone" yet, I also feel a HUGE difference when I eat. I can't eat no where near the amount I used to, and this makes it easier for me to make better food choices. It is important that the band does not make you lose weight, it just makes it easier to lose weight and keep it off.

    Help me, I'm backsliding

Not sure how to manage that one except to say, you just need to psyche yourself up to it. It sounds like you are taking the beginning steps by reaching out and acknowledging the issue, without coming up with a million of false reasons for not doing it. Just remember why you got the band in the first place. Do you want all that hard work to go to waste. And the TT, you don't want to go through that again. I've never had one, but have taken care of post op TT'ers, and I have to say, it takes a lot of courage to do it, not sure I could. Good luck in getting back on the wagon!

    Lost 12lbs, can't tell!

I had lost 15 pounds, and my clothes were actually TIGHTER! It was very frustrating. I still can't figure that one out. I am now about 35 pounds down, and I am finally noticing a difference in my clothing. It'll happen.
  10. Yes, I was wondering the same thing. Only I have been waiting about a month for mine.

    Need Some Weight Loss Buddies!!!

What I love about myfitnesspal is that it has an free app for my android, i bet they have it for iphone too. It makes it easier to track when I am at work or out, I don't have to remember exactly everything that went in during the course of a 12 hr busy shift. I'm under kelleramanda7

    IBS and lap band surgury

I too have IBS. My IBS was to the point that 90% of the foods that I ate gave me problems. The only foods that did not bother me were junk food and sweets, which is part of the reason why I am so overweight. I got my band 5 weeks ago, and it has done WONDERS for my IBS. I have had only 1 flare-up with my IBS since then, and that was with bananas - which ironically didn't give me problems before.

    Stuck = nausea?

Was it a first time for this food after being banded? Most people develop intolerances to certain foods after banding, for example I can no longer eat bananas they make me very sick, I get extremely nauseous, and then I have diarrhea. I know they aren't stuck, cause when I get stuck- I have this awful pain in my stomach, I start to overproduce saliva, and I get this feeling of regurgitation- like the food is already making it's way back up. I either PB it up, or it passes and then I feel fine.

    Funny NSV!

Well, I still need the big cuff, but my NSV came when I was playing with my daughter the other day- My wedding band flew off my finger! It hit my other daughter in the face . Funny thing is, before my surgery 5 weeks ago, I couldn't wear it because it was too small- now it is too big! Waiting to have it resized
  15. I too, had/have this problem. Some of it comes from the fact that I often only get 5-10 minutes to eat lunch at work, and even then, I am frequently interrupted. Or sometimes I wait too long to eat, and then I am STARVING, and eat too fast, or don't chew enough. I did not have any issues until my first fill, and the first 4 days, I ended up PB'ing my main meal of the day. I have been working on not eating fast and chewing here at home, but I am afraid when I go back to work- the last day that I worked, I actually packed an all mushie lunch to prevent problems! It's like learning to ride a bike- you'll have a few spills but eventually we'll both be experts!

    Whats a good protein powder?

A friend of mine swears by Champion Protien powder. It can be bought at discount at www.allstarhealth.com.
  17. I haven't noticed any any new stretch marks, but I have found some new varicose veins in my legs, so either the weight was hiding them and now that some is gone I can see them, or they are just new. It makes me mad!

Advise as I consider lap band surgery

SageTracy is right on the money. Many people think of this as the magic bullet that will fix their weight problem. But it can't do it on it's own. It needs your help. You need to ask yourself- Can I make a commitment to eat healthier and excercise? If either of these answers is no, then the band may not be right for you at this time. You definately need to get into that mindset. Have you gone to any seminars? Attending one or finding an online seminar may help your decision.

    Hungry

I was allowed blended up soup, without rice or pasta at the beginning of week 2. That really helped a lot.

    Looking for some non-judgmental feedback

I know it's tough, but you are still healing. I would blend up various soups to drink, this would help me get through. I didn't really feel hunger until a week out either, I would call your doctor and let them know what's up with how your feeling.

    HELP...this isnt in my head

It could be the port. There is swelling around the port that needs to go down, and you do have to heal there as well. It should get better.
  22. readytolosemomof5

    Ugh!!!

It was 5 days after surgery before I had a BM. Think about it, you aren't eating anything solid, so your body has nothing to form into waste product. Just don't strain the first time you go, you don't want to end up with hemorroids. Plus it'll hurt your incisions!
  23. I was on thin/clear liquid for 1 week, full liquid for 1 week, mushies for 1 week, then regular food. And I have to say, when I was able to eat regular food- it didn't agree with me. I actually ended up doing an extra week of self imposed mushies. I am 4 1/2 weeks out, and still learning what is safe to eat.

Did anyone else get a fill on day of surgery?

I went to the same place as you as well. I found out at my first fill that my doc put 4 ml in, the NP put in an additional 1ml, and I can certainly feel the difference with just that 1ml. She was considering putting 2ml in, I'm sure glad she didn't! I think that it is not just surgeon preference, but case by case difference as well.
  25. readytolosemomof5

    Got my first fill today

I also got my first fill today. Wasn't as bad as I expected it to be. The NP numbed up the area with lidocaine, then in went the needle and it was done before I knew it. My surgeon put 4ml of saline in during surgery- which I didn't know and it suprised me at how much. And she put 1ml in today. She was going to put 2ml in, but because of the holiday weekend, she only put 1ml to prevent any trips to the ER over the weekend. I already feel a difference, I could only take 4 bites of my dinner and I was over full! Amazing how just a small amount makes a huge difference. They told me I could eat normal tonight, but I wonder if it would have been better to stick to liquids. I think I'll do that with future fills.
