    Things I now know

Quote from "The Bucket List" movie : "never pass up a bathroom, never waste a hard-on, and never trust a fart."
  2. I started drinking my coffee again at 2 months out.

    Regretting surgery

I was totally at the same point you are now. The nausea does pass and I got my appetite back so just hang in there and get through it and eat what you can!
  4. I don't drink soda but I do have a few beers every Friday night and it doesn't bother me at all.
  5. Absolutely I experienced this. I was also excited to get out of liquids and on to something that resembled real food. But when I started eating I felt sick to my stomach and the food disgusted me. I actually spent a lot of my mushie time drinking the Protein shakes. I think it has something to do with your stomach not being used to real food after being on liquids for so long. It's a transition period because trust me, it will end. After I was on regular solid food for a couple of weeks my appetite came back and I'm enjoying food again. Even the things that made me sick before or now good again. You just have to get through this time. It will pass.

If I can make it work after VSG...

It's not the losing weight that's my problem. It's the keeping it off. If any of us could do that then we wouldn't be on this forum right now. Sure we could get in the mindset and maybe keep it off for many years. BUT...when you get too old for exercise or have an injury that keeps you from exercising and the pounds start creeping on, what will you do? This is the possibility for permanent weight loss if you use the tool correctly. Something to think about.

What to expect 2 months out?

I'm a little over 2 months out and have lost 60 lbs. I get comments all the time about my weight loss. Not sure how you'll do in that amount of time, but that's where I'm at if it helps. Oh and I can eat anything I want except for bread, pasta, and rice.
  8. If you like hot chocolate this is some good stuff. And 15 grams of protein! http://www.mybariatr.../ps-ht_choc.htm

    Feeling a little discouraged.

I would guess that at 5'9 150-160 lbs would be a more realistic goal.
  10. I had to poke another hole in my belt with an ice pick today. Pants were falling down again. Love it! I also had to cut the first part of the belt down because the tail was too long, traveling through 2 belt loops after I buckled it. I will need a new belt soon. Went from a 46 waist pants to a very saggy loose 40 now. BMI has went from 48 to 39 which takes me out of the morbidly obese category and now I'm just plain obese. Thought I would share. This sleeved life is good! 60 lbs down and 70 to go. I'm 2 months out. Woo hoo!!

    Small NSV

Thanks, I hope I continue with that trend! I'm going to start jogging soon. That should boost the weight loss.
  12. Your body will lose weight in steps, not a gradual level loss. Mine does anyway. I'll go 4 days without losing a pound and then 2 will fall off. Pretty weird but that's the way it goes. Don't worry about it. Your fat can not sustain the level of calories you're taking in. It has to give in and come off eventually. Hang in there. From a guy's point of view.
  13. I don't know about 2 weeks out. I didn't chance it. If you're drinking a carbonated beverage like beer then I would say maybe that would be uncomfortable for you. If it's wine or the such, I'm not sure. My surgeon wanted me to wait for 6 months but I'm 2 months out now and I drink beer about once a week on the weekend. I have zero issues when I drink it, I just don't drink it all the time because of the empty calories aspect that I don't need. I would venture to say it won't hurt you because like you said, we're completely normal except for our tummy being smaller in size. Good luck with whatever you decide to do.
  14. It sounds like a big deal before the surgery but once you started living it, it just becomes second nature. I don't always wait 30 minutes after a meal to drink. I gauge it by how full I feel at the time and will take some "test sips" to see how it's going to feel before chugging any water. It's really just a change of habits and not a huge life change for me. It's just how I live now. No biggie.
  15. If it feels like your food is getting stuck about halfway down then yes, it will go away once the swelling goes down in your stomach.
  16. Really, they just take the gall bladder during bariatric surgery whether you have gall stones at the time or not? I asked my doctor why he didn't do that and he said it was illegal to remove a perfectly good organ. Hmmm

    Chili on full liquid

I blended chili after I got to the puree stage at 3 weeks. During the full liquid stage I couldn't eat any blended food with solid particles that can't fit through a strainer. Hope this helps.
  18. I got a machine 9 years ago and I won't sleep without it now. I feel like CRAP without the CPAP. It's hard to get used to wearing the mask but after a while it's second nature. My doctor told me that a majority of people are cured from sleep apnea after they lose their weight from the surgery. I hope that's the case for me. Cons I can say are it's a pain to lug around when you're sleeping away from home and of course it's uncomfortable to wear. Pros outweigh cons when the biggest pro is a restful night's sleep and lucidity during the day. Good luck.

    Abnormal EKG??? Oh no....

Yes, my EKG showed an abnormality. My PCP sent me to get a stress test. I didn't have to do the treadmill, they just injected some chemical into me that sped up my heartbeat and then stuck me under a machine that looked like a cat scan. Anyway, it came back that they said that my heart was fine and there were no blockages and the abnormality was normal for me. It's just the way my heart works and was fine. I was cleared for surgery and had no problems. Hope this helps.

    how do you delete posts?

I don't think you can delete the post but you can hit EDIT and just erase all your text. It will appear as a blank post from you. No big deal. I see a lot of people just leave the quote of the OP and leave nothing else.

    Coffee -- Need some advice

I have one medium sized cup of Tim Horton's coffee every morning and I drink it as fast as I ever did. No difference at all! Oh and I'm 8 weeks out.

    Endo Question - Sedation?

Mine was good stuff. Don't remember a thing and woke up right after without being groggy. Hope you get the same stuff.

    Eating Slowly

I eat while I'm doing something like reading or on the computer. When I take a bite I set the plate down and go back to what I'm doing. It's usually a couple minutes before I pick the plate back up. Just keep your mind busy while you're eating. To keep hot food warm, buy one of these candle warmers that someone posted on here a while back. I bought one and it works pretty well at keeping your food warm while you take your time eating it. You'll have to use a small bowl or plate on it. http://www.amazon.co...duct/B001DHQXX2

    Diabetes...Sleeve or RNY??

I know doctors still say RNY is the "Gold Standard" because it's been around for so long, but I think things are changing and someday soon VSG will become the new Gold Standard.
