Good Bye Band, Hello Sleeve
Jammy replied to MyNameIsNatalee's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
That's incredible. Hope the vomiting gets better though. That's not fun. Don't push too fast. You've got your entire life to get back to solids. -
I'm curious. Do you still find yourself dieting after the surgery or do you just eat less? Initially when I had my band surgery, I was pretty strict with my diet, but after I had problems with it, I definitely got more lax about the things I ate. I would lean on "slider foods" when my band was being super tight and fussy. I'm curious if you find that you're sticking to a strict regemin of eating properly, or dieting (I know that might sound crazy, but many bandsters I knew still followed weight watchers, atkins, etc), or is the restricted volume all you find that you need to do to lose? Yes, I know the recommendations by the docs, I'm just curious to hear from peoples real life activity.

Love Unjury. Have had both chocolates and the vanilla. Like mixing fresh fruit in with the vanilla. Used this after Lapband surgery and love the product.

9/24 here Dr. Schrope at NY-Presbyterian Columbia in NYC

Hey! I just got rescheduled for the 24th myself, I'm also in NYC but at Columbia. Best of luck to you!

Supersweetum, I really like what you had to say. I would agree that I have made major changes in my eating habits since my lapband surgery (having revision to sleeve next month). I definitely see a difference in my eating from a year ago and have made many lifestyle changes. I think everyone hit it right on the head though and heard my question for what it was (something that doesn't always happen on these here boards!). I'm glad to hear that most who responded didnt' necessarily "diet" but have made the necessary "life changes" and were still successful. That feels encouraging.

Your story is very inspiring. Seeing your blog got me excited. I am having revision from band to sleeve on 9/24 and I was waiting to see how long it would take for the excitement to kick in. Well... here it is! All the best to you in recovery! -Ivy

That was my point. Somone qualified to administer anesthesia, which most G.I. docs are not. Most docs don't offer it because it's not typically covered by insurance, and really it's not typically necessary in most cases. Yes it comes down to money in most cases, but it also comes down to administering a medication that is way more powerful than needed for the procedure at hand. Kind of like using a shot gun to kill a mouse. Sedatives are the usual and customary practice for the procedure. The Michael Jackson reference was only to give as an example of what can go wrong in a tangable means that most people are conscious of.

Any Revisions To Sleeve From Band In The 230 Lb Range At Surgery?
Jammy replied to Jammy's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Wow, these two posts have really made me feel good about my decision. I like the idea of feeling more "naturally full". Not full because something just wants to be a jerk and disagree with my band. I dont' eat much as it is now, but because of this fussy band, only getting a couple bites in, I'll get hungry again in an hour or so. It's frustrating. I hear you YorkieFan about being prepared to eat slowly and small amounts and such. I am very used to it since having the band. I don't fear the transition into small portions, or eating habits as far as speed and drinking at all. I honestly am just ready for this all to happen and would go tomorrow if I could! I appreciate your response, and again may take you up on a message or ten! lol -
Any Revisions To Sleeve From Band In The 230 Lb Range At Surgery?
Jammy replied to Jammy's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
msaprildawn, our stories are very similar. I am at about 230 and will be having my surgery in less than 5 weeks. I went from the 290 range to where I am now with the band over the course of a year. I was fearful that I might not really lose much more after the sleeve. I also know that being at 230, it may sound a little petty to some that I am not happy with my loss thusfar, but I feel like I have a long way to go. In the back of my mind I feel like if I made it to the 180s I would feel like all of this was a success and worth it. Not that it hasn't been worth it thusfar, but I would feel successful if I made it to the 180s. Anything beyond that would just feel like a bonus! You're not losing slowly at all in my book. I never wanted to lose too drastically too quick. I think it would be too much of a shocker, too much conversation from those around me, and I don't love to be the center of attention at all. Thanks so much for the response. I just might be messaging you! -Ivy -
I Have Fallen Off The Wagon. I Need Help.
Jammy replied to Julie76's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I find that journaling helps me. I use www.myfitnesspal.com It seems to work really well for me. I use the iphone app as well as the website. I'm a little bit of a grazer myself. It helps if I journal everrrrrything. It forces me to see where I'm getting to as it is happening. Even if it doesn't stop me in my tracks, it'll be in the back of my head for the next day and I'll tend to do better then. Best of luck to you. Relationships are tough. Don't lose yourself trying to make up for someone else's insecurities. You'll never be able to fix that for them. No matter how much you cut out those around you, and seclude yourself from the outside world, if someone is fearful and insecure about a relationship, you cannot fix that for them. I've been through it. I know. -
I had a surgery date of September 17. Today my date was robbed from me! Lol. The person who booked it wasn't authorized to confirm that date with me soooo.... My new date is Sept 24. Feeling bummed for a couple reasons. I really wanted to book it on the 17th as it is the Jewish holiday and being that I live in NYC, this means classes are canceled and I could avoid missing too much school, also the parking rules here will be suspended then and I wouldn't have to worry about tickets or getting towed. It was just a good date! So BOOOO to the girl who teased me with Sept 17. You made me very sad today. Back to the planning board. Ugh.

Propofol requires an anesthesiologist. Most insurance companies will not cover this and most GI doctors don't even offer the option. Propofol is a drug that requires serious monitoring. It is very easy for things to go very wrong if not used properly... ie Michael Jackson.

Esophageal gastro duodenoscopy. You'll be sedated and then a small scope will be passed through your esophagus to your stomach and to the first part of the small intestine (duodenum). The procedure is very quick and allows the doctor to look at the anatomy for any abnormalities prior to surgery. The report prepares the surgeon for any unforeseen issues before surgery so there are no surprises. Most doctors use a medication called Versed which is a sedative. It can have amnesia like qualities to it. It provides what is sometimes called "twilight sleep". You may be semi conscious but most likely won't remember a damn thing if you are. Most people don't have any residual pain. At most a little bit of a scratchy throat. I used to work in endoscopy so I've assisted in this procedure hundreds (if not thousands) of times. It's a fairly simple and quick procedure. You'll be up and out before you know it. I'll be having mine on Thursday!

Feeling Depressed.... Go Back To Work !
Jammy replied to KinnymomX3's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Imbordelon -when I had my Lapband surgery I had surgery tuesday night and went back to work Monday (I work in administration in a hospital). I know the band surgery is slightly less invasive but I did manage ok. I took it slow. Went home a little early when necessary. And simply took it easy. I think it's possible if you have the flexibility to go home if you need to and if you can take breaks as needed. Best of luck to you. -Ivy -
I'm about to have my band removed next month. How is your pain level as compared to the band surgeries? I didn't do too badly with my band and was back to work after 6 days (my job is really sedentary and was conducive to taking it easy). This time around I'm def taking more time off, and focusing on getting myself rested and better. I kind of felt like I rushed myself a little, almost like I had something to prove. smh Any problems with nausea after this surgery? Are you on purees yet?

Sheep meadow is an area of Central Park. It's on the southwest corner right near Columbus Circle. It's a little easier to get to (esp by train) than further up in the park.
