Did you develope Gallbladder issues?
kemo46 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
How many of you developed Gallbladder issues after surgery? What exactly about the VSG surgery would cause Gallbladder issues? The types of post op diet, lack of certain foods? How to avoid this? Thank you. -
Heparin Bruises....is it normal for them to get bigger?
kemo46 replied to meggiep's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Does everyone require these shots for the VSG surgery? I have not read about this until recently. Is it up to the surgeon or is this a pretty normal thing with all surgeries? I have read where some will get it in the hospital but not have to self-inject once they leave the hospital, what determines this. I am also traveling a distance after my surgery, I was told I could wear compression socks and to get out and walk around every hour to help with circulation and prevent clotting. Please reply and let me know if everyone had to get this medicine and if it was just in the hospital or at home as well. Thanks. -
Anyone having surgery May 23 in TJ
kemo46 replied to DogGroomer's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hey DogGroomer, I will not be there until the 25th, you will be leaving the recovery house when i get to the clinic for my surgery. Keep me posted on everything, I am ready to get this done and started on the new journey. How is that liquid diet going? -
Kelly, did you take your vitamins in pill form and was it easy to get them down? Where they chewable, gummy or did you have to crush them? Just curious how we will be able to take our vitamins right after surgery.

Well Pasquini, is it what you thought, better or worse? Are you hurting more than you thought or not as bad? How are the drugs, are the keeping the pain down? I take it they are taking good care of you, hang in there.

I figure your surgery went so well, you have been out shopping and roaming the streets of Tijuana. We want to see those videos and pics and hear your detailed experience with Dr. Almanza. I want to hear about anything that you experienced that you did not hear about on the forums and any pleasant or unpleasant surprises. I hope you are doing great and feeling no pain. Hope to hear from you soon, good luck with your fast recovery. -
Looking forward to seeing the pics. I will be there on the 25th for my surgery and I am ready. We want to know everything.

How did you feel 3 days post surgery? Could you RIDE, not drive in a car for a long distance? I know that walking around to prevent clots is very important but I wanted to see how many did travel in a car, for how long and how much it bothered you. I know they tell you not to drive for a while, I assume that is because of the medication. I would like to hear your experience with riding in a car at least 3 days after surgery. Thank you.

Do you still enjoy food?
kemo46 replied to sasicas's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Great post Rootman. Did you just follow your surgeon's advise or did you take it any further and restrict yourself more? I can relate to everything you mentioned. My surgery is the 25th and I cannot wait. The physical restriction is going to be a great help but I really want to develope that psychological mindset towards food. -
For all of the people that have recently been sleeved, what position do you sleep in? I have always slept on my left side and a little on my right side. I have never been able to sleep on my back or stomach. How have you been able to sleep since surgery and when did it become comfortable to sleep on your side again? Thanks.

Hey Pasquini, I am not too far behind you, keep me posted on everything, I am getting a little anxious and ready to get this over with. Let me know if it is really clean on the inside of the clinic, everyone says the strip shopping center is old and dirty but is clean in the clinic, that is what i am concerned about. You will do great, can't wait to hear about your experience.

Feeling Overwhelmed
kemo46 replied to sugarxsnapxsarah's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Who is your surgeon, I am going to Dr. Almanza on 5-25. -
I have a question about compression/surgery socks. I have never had a surgery of any kind but it seems like a lot of hospitals use these , I guess to control blood clots. Did you use them pre-surgery, post surgery or both? Is it something you would use after you go home or just a day or two after surgery? What exactly do these do to prevent clotting, i understand compression but what is the thought process behind them. Thanks.

I knew a lot of the risks of being obese including high blood pressure, risk of stroke and heart attacks. I just found another one and new for me, I was diagnosed with Diabetes today when I went in for my physical. My last blood panel was 5 years ago, it was not great but things have really changed for the worse over the last five years. I have not been on any medication for anything, ever. I talked with my primary about my upcoming surgery and we discussed medication. I have decided to hold off on the medication until after my surgery, i have read that the surgery has really helped people's blood sugar levels get back to normal. I am really hoping with eating properly and having the surgery, i will not have to go on the medication for Diabetes. I would like to hear from anyone out there that has some input about this or has gone through it. Did the surgery cure your diabetes or at least make it manageable with diet after the surgery? I have talked with my coordinator for my sleeve surgery and I have to get my glucose number down before my surgery on the 25th. If you have any input on the best way or options on how to do this, I would appreciate it. I know the main things such as cut out the sugar, carbs, starches and things like that will help my numbers. Will the pre-op liquid diet lower this number significantly or must I do more? I should have not been surprised by my numbers today but I was. When you hear your doctor tell you you have Diabetes , it is scary. It makes my decision to have this surgery much more important and urgent. I would encourage all people to have a blood panel if they have not had one recently. I DID NOT have ANY of the symptoms of diabetes. I had risk factors such as weight but that was all. Please give me your input, i would really appreciate it.

I wanted to ask this question in post -op rater than in the Vitamin section because I wanted to see how you approached this post -op. Here is my question. I had a blood panel done prior to going for my pre-surgery blood panel. I did this because I wanted to see if I had any isues before going to the expense of my trip for surgery, my surgery is not local, it will be in Mexico. My blood panel is good and I do not have any vitamin deficientcies. My next step is to start my liquid diet prior to surgery. I read on the forum with most Doctors, they like for you to have a blood panel about 6 months after surgery to make sure you are not deficient in any Vitamins or minerals. I know we will be taking things like Protein,Vitamin D, Iron and b-12 post surgery but everyone is different, how do you know what you are getting enough of and what you are not. Have you found a one a day muti vitamin is enough or did you have to take a bunch of individual vitamins? What dosages of these vitamins did your doctor start you on? How was your blood work after 6 months or after you had it checked again? I hear if you are deficeint in vitamins or minerals and you wait 6 months to find out by a blood panel, it could be too late to correct it with just taking vitamins at that point. How do you know what dosage to take of what vitamins and minerals directly after surgery and for the next 6 months? Thank you.

I am new to the forums and trying to get all my questions answered, this board has been great. My surgery has not been booked yet but i am getting very close. I question has to do with Water consumption and staying hydrated. I am not as concerned about post op, i am more concerned about 1,2,6 or more months out. Will i still be able to drink plenty of water and fluids or are they restricted from now on after surgery? Thank you.

I knew this was going to happen...
kemo46 replied to ranchersdaughter's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am glad your surgery went well, I am schduled with Dr. Almanza on May 25th. Was it what you expected in regards to the staff, facility and recovery house? i will go nuts if I cannot get my liquids in, I am a water freak. -
Really, NO gum chewing?
kemo46 replied to wendy1974's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
As a child, I swallowed gum, i hope they do not find a bunch of pieces stuck to my stomach, if they do, I hope it is stuck to the 80% they are going to remove. -
My mind is running crazy with all these questions now that I am getting close. What happens if the Surgeon starts the procedure laparoscopically but has trouble performing the surgery, does he stop or does he open you up and do major surgery? Does it depend on the surgeon? What would cause the surgeon to not be able to do it laparoscopically? Has this happened to anyone here on the forum? Thank you.

Regret and fear are my worse enemies right now

Who was your surgeon, I would hope they would have more interest in your condition. -
Great post, my surgery is the 25th, trying to get prepared as possible. You mentioned your throat and mouth was sore from the tubing, was the tubing done while you were under or did they put it in or take it out while you were awake? This is my first surgery of any kind, getting a little anxious.

What type of B-12 are you taking post - op and what is the dosage. I hear everyone is different. Thank you.

After your surgery, how long was it before you could get back to your normal activities? Running, lifting weights, in other words, doing things and not worring about ripping your stomach open? I think mentally, I would be scared that everything i would do post op would tear my stomach open and cause a leak, did you have the same fears and how long was it before you were back to normal and did not worry about it? Thank you.
