I got my surgery back in April and as the doctor said, I have not had any carbonated drinks. I certainly miss an occasional glass of my favorite champagne! Has anyone tried carbonated drinks since surgery? I ask because my mother had gastric bypass and was told not to have carbonated drinks but she can drink them just fine. I know that surgery is completely different, but I was wondering if anyone has drank carbonated drinks in small amounts? Thanks!

One of my biggest problems is eating too much pasta! That's one of the main reasons I got surgery lol. I know that Pasta is my weak point, so I don't have that everyday anymore. I will eat it now only 1-2 times a week. I don't even pay attention to carbs in other foods, especially yogurt or anything like that. I consider those GOOD carbs. But the breads, pasta, potatoes and the thicker carbs are the ones that you need to cut down on. And when you do have your pastas, you can only eat as much as your band will let you! So that is still cutting back on them. Pick 1 meal a day that has the "bad" carbs, and the rest of the day eat meats, veggies, yogurt, etc. Cutting them out completely never worked for me, and it doesn't for most people either! You can still have your pasta and potatoes, just not in excess! -Colleen

Lol yes it is.

So I just bought this stuff called Carb Solutions Protein Shake Mix, chocolate flavor. And WOW it is NASTY. What kind of protein mixers are y'all using to get your protein in? I really like Instant Breakfast, but there just isn't enough protein in that. Also, I had my surgery this past Thursday on 4/14/2011. How long did it take before any of you could start working out? I was instructed to not lift more than 5 lbs...but I have been feeling a lot better since surgery. I am just ready to start doing some light workouts for starters. I usually ride my bike. I'm just wondering how many weeks it took anyone to start working out regularly?

You're ports are under your rib, on the left side. Mine is. I have 3 tiny incisions and my port is the larger one

I bet if you mix it with pineapple juice it would be delicious!

Okay, I was talking about paying $10.00 for the nasty Carb Solution stuff that I previously bought. I explained all of that in one of my posts to try to get you to understand what I meant. Once again, in response to your first post to my thread. I meant: "Wow, Muscle Milk for $5.00 is a great deal. I paid $10.00 for Carb Solutions, which was unpleasant to the taste. Thank you for telling me about the good deal on Ebay." That is how I meant to say it. I'll be more descriptive next time.

I think we are having a HUGE misunderstanding here. My post, the start of this thread, had nothing to do with muscle milk. I was saying that I bought Carb Solutions and it was nasty and that I needed help finding a protein shake. You replied with advice about Muscle Milk, I replied back saying "can't beat that, thanks", and then you replied with the response of "don't be a smart ass". I was trying to explain myself but I guess it isn't getting us anywhere. I'm sure Muscle Milk is good, I'm most likely going to pick some up. Good job on your weight loss.

Oh that sounds delicious. I love chocolate shakes haha

I was banded on April 14th and still feel a little sore. At first I couldn't even get up without someone pulling me up. I couldn't even lay down in the bed because I just could move anywhere, I was sleeping on the couch because I could roll off the bed lol. It does get a little better and less sore everyday. Now I am moving around in my normal ways, but it still hurts to laugh, cough, sneeze, etc. It is sore, not sure when it will stop but it is MUCH better than before!

YAY that is awesome!! I was soooo excited when I got approved! It was all a breeze from there! So far, it is the best thing I've ever done! Congrats!
-
Ooo I love samples! Thank you I will have to try that!

I am sorry you see it that way but you are being overly sensitive about that response. I said "haha" just as laughter that I paid $10.00 for something that I found that tasted disgusting. Not a smart ass response at all. And by the way, I said I can't beat that price of the Muscle Milk you suggested considering it is sold for more than $5.00. That is what I meant. I was thanking you for suggesting a cheap Protein mix.

"oh wow you sure can't! I paid $10.00 for that nasty stuff haha. Thanks!" Meaning, wow that is a great price, only $5.00 for Muscle Milk on eBay considering I paid $10.00 for the stuff I bought, which was disgusting. Which is why I started this entire post, because I wanted something that tasted good. And then I ended with a "Thanks!" for the advice. Now explain to me how that response that I originally posted was being a smart ass?

1 week post op ...... Constipation?
Collister replied to healthyroad69's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I couldn't go to the bathroom for that whole first week. I finally did, after taking some mild stool softeners. Everyone seems to have this problem, so it is normal. -
OO that sounds perfect! Thanks!

Um you said "You can't beat that price" and I replied "you sure can't". Not sure how that is being a smart ass. You're not very nice.

All those banded 4/12...check in!
Collister replied to thatgurl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was banded on the 14th and so far I am doing great! At first I needed help getting up and off the couch, I couldn't even sleep in my own bed. I finally am getting up on my own and sleeping in the bed! I was on liquids for a week, and omg that drove me insane. Finally stopped that and I have just having soft foods. Had scrambled eggs this morning for the first time and that went down just fine. I haven't felt nauseous or anything! I make sure to chew up my food very well, I am terrified up vomiting. I think me not wanting to vomit is the main reason I really stop myself before I get too full. I am scared it will slip. This is a good thing because I am now only eating until I am satisfied, not stuffed. Now I have eaten eggs, yogurt, shakes, jello, pudding, applesause and etc. I will be eating like this for another week and then I will migrate to different types of food. So far I have lost 15 1/2 lbs and very excited! I can't wait to start riding my bike again to speed up the weight loss once my water weight is gone. My port has been the sorest area for me, and it looks like for y'all too! I don't even feel my incisions now...but that port needs to hurry up and heal. I really like sleeping on my stomach but I can't since it still hurts right there. I am moving around just fine and off pain medicine. I get my first fill on Monday! Glad to see everyone is doing good! -

What is this tasteless Protein powder you are using?? I was looking for something just like that at a grocery store and ended up being a chocolate powder that made sooo GROSS. I need what you are using! I don't like having to replace a meal everytime just to drink my protein shake...I don't want to have to do that every single day. Also, I was not able to bend down right after surgery. I was banded on the 14th and I still only can bend down just using my legs and going all the way down! I am keeping my torso straight so I don't hurt myself...I think in a few more days I will be fine. So be careful! -
That is just what I am looking for! I love my Silk Almond Milk...and that is a good bit of protein I will have to try that!
-
Oh wow you sure can't! I paid $10.00 for that nasty stuff haha. Thanks!
-
I just got banded Thursday and I have bad heartbearn! It so uncomfortable, I'm not sure why I am feeling this. Did you have that during your first week?
-
Yes my doctor had told me to make sure I get enough protein but he said to stick to a strict diet of clear liquids for the first week. And after that I can start my protein shakes. I have been drinking a lot of chicken broth and miso soup for my protein for now. I can't wait for some real food haha

I had my surgery the same day that you did. I can understand about not being hungry..I have been hungry but that started yesterday. I think I am getting tired of the liquids! My nurse today said I can already start eating yogurts and puddings. I forgot to ask if that should be sugar free. What do you think? I didn't know we could have protein shakes, I think that is why you are not feeling any hunger, which is good! I know with me, just knowing that there is something that was just put around my stomach makes me not want to eat just yet so it might be a consious thing for you to not be hungry yet. What kind of protein shakes are you taking?
