    NSV shout outs

Great NSV's guys! Congratulations to you all!
  3. First, Deep breath. Lissa has some good advice. The way out of the stall is time. Do what your doc asks, and you will come out of the other end. Stalls are natural. Do you really think that eating less than 600 cals a day will maintain your body for long? Measure. Its really cool to see the numbers on the tape go lower and lower. This will probably not be your last stall. My first stall started at 2 1/2 weeks and lasted for 5 weeks. (on the scale...not measurements)

    Dry Mouth On Pre-Op Diet

If your diet is low carb, you might be in ketosis which makes your tongue feel like it is wearing a sock! Also, if you are drinking lots of whey, I know it makes my mouth feel kind of dry. brush your tongue, try minty gum.... wash your mouth out after drinking whey drinks...
  5. A BIG congratulations girl! You look and sound so healthy. I am a month behind you... still not at goal, but happy with what I have and still thinking I might be able to lose a couple more. YOU LOOK GREAT!

    Back On Track Thread

I just don't bother with the squirt of this and the bite of that... I round stuff up, I list something close in calories, I do what I can if I don't have the exact info. I try to measure my standard foods...I eye ball things sometimes, but need to measure or the portion size will creep up. I'm a sneaky one! I do the best I can with logging the food. I don't even count low cal veggies. I do count fruit though, because of the carbs. On the days that I am eating out a lot, or grazing a bite of this and a sip of that are the hardest, I sometimes give up on those days... but mostly those days are vacation days and oh well. Hang in there, Don't panic! You still have your sleeve, and it will help like you never had help before... just keep trying to do what you can every day. Don't beat yourself up... I don't know about you, but that makes me want to eat MORE... And lose strength to continue the fight.

    Really Freaked Out

When I was preping for surgery they assured me that they would keep the salespersons out of the room when I was naked! I was strapped to a board and was standing upright during the surgery. It is a teaching hospital, and Im sure the room was packed with students... they were demonstrating robotic surgery on me for part of the time. No dignity, but I did it for science! My understanding was i was pretty much naked!

    Ppi's

I got off at one year. I did fine, but I just started taking them again a week ago (19 months out) because of a funny feeling in my throat...and hunger, Not sure its making any difference yet. I dont like taking PPI because of the calcium thing.

What Food Plan Are You Using?

I'm on the anything I want plan right now.... leaning toward vegetarian Southbeach. The closer I get to the southbeach, the more control I have over the weight and hunger. --- Reading this over I realized I DONT eat everything I want without end. But I do eat stuff I crave everyday. If I had no stops on my desire, it would be a whole different story. Give credit where credit is due!

How many calories are you getting in?

I shoot for 1200 but often get above that... on some days it might be around 1800. I could eat even more. I am not at goal yet, and cant imagine getting there. I am pretty happy with where I am... I just don't want to gain more.

    Back On Track Thread

Through the months I have found many good healthy snack foods. Unfortunately, it seems like I am tired of them all and only want junk right now. Repeat, then repeat again. My weight has gone up a bit, around 3-6 pounds the last 4 months, and with my eating the way it is... and exercising less because of bone spurs...Im looking at a dilemma. I about 12 pounds from my goal...and wont get there this way! My will power is BAD right now... I went back on PPIs to see if that might help the hunger...I can also really see stress turns on the "eat now" voice. I have approval to go to a physical therapist which might get me back on track with my dancing class... I do miss that a bunch. I guess I just really FEAR gaining more weight back...6 pounds is not horrible... I just want to feel like I continue to succeed and not fail (like every other time) My kitchen garden is kicking in, and I have more fresh veggies around, I am trying to cook and have stuff in the fridge that is ready to eat. I am making desert foods for on demand too... sf puddings, vegetarian sf jello with blueberries... this helps to some degree, but the junk is still a magnet to me. I hope when I get back to dance class things will get easier. I pack a bunch of little nibbles in my lunch... fruit, cucumbers and hummus, crackers and cheese or string cheese, there is a veggie jerkey that is really good and low cal, carb and 10gms pro. I get that sometimes. Peanut butter with chocolate chips is my very fav snack... but portion control is the key... I tend to measure out just a little more... which turns into a little bit more, then its really two servings. The single thing that keeps me slightly on track is making sure I write it all down... even when its not pretty. If i go through a spell away from the computer for days, the weight goes up.

    Is The Sleeve For Me?

Who is your doctor now? Or where do you get your medical care at? Even if it is a local clinic...Perhaps a call to find out about your questions. You will need blood work done a few times, someone to look at your stitches....and a place to go in case you have an emergency. Does your Doc in Mexico take advice calls after surgery? Make sure they have a really good plan written down for you, and don't leave you hanging without enough info to follow successful practices.

Gonna Get To Goal. Wanna Join Me?

I'm working on max nutrition too. I can eat more volume than you it sounds like, I can eat quite a bit of salads(2+cups) and veg soups(two cups) which I love. I have to make myself eat protein first, to reduce the volume... I do love my veggies. I haven't gotten into smoothies too much yet, but am revisiting protein drinks and really enjoying them.....greens and beans as comfort food! Of course... kale salad is one of my favs, and refried beans I love too... If I had more red beans like I got in NOLA I would feel a lot of comfort there! Now I have to make some!

Gonna Get To Goal. Wanna Join Me?

Im not a vegan, just a vegetarian.... I guess that mens a vegan at some meals... I eat eggs and dairy. They REALLY help me get in the protein. You can get in quite a bit with soy and gluten... which is where I get most of my pro in... then there is whey next on the list...followed by milk, nuts ,seeds ,Beans... I did read about one guy that is a vegatarian paleo... bless his heart! It must be so hard! greens and beans! Sounds like NO COMFORT. http://www.nomeatathlete.com/vegetarian-paleo-diet/

Gonna Get To Goal. Wanna Join Me?

I don't have reflux, well I had it once in the last year... but have noticed a little bit of a funny feeling in my throat... I have been so hungry lately too... I have been off the PPIs for a year... but I started taking one this morning. Just to see how I do. I have to say I have NOT been hungry today... its just one day, we will see how tomorrow goes. Hope you have found your culprit!
  20. I am at 19 months and I still lose more hair than I did before surgery. I had very thick hair and I had to cut it off to get a better thicker look. I had hair to my waist, and it got so you could see light through it... aging rock star hair... not a pretty sight. It is growing back, and i have a bunch of short hairs doing their stick out thing all over my head. I started growing out my bangs, and they look pretty lame and thin. I am still hopeing it will get better. If not, its still a pretty good trade off for all the lost fat! I use hennea, and that thickens things up a bit, and use root boost spray before blow drying at the roots for just a minute. A good cut can really make things look better. I am trying to eat more anti oxidents, fresh raw veggies and my omega3s. This was part of what made my hair stay in and not fall out in the first place(I think). Good nutrition. I am so glad to see you are feeling so much better now, and the sleeve is working like it is supposed too. You look beautiful and happy.

Gonna Get To Goal. Wanna Join Me?

I love this thread. Thanks girls!
  22. Most people do not stay the same from month to month... or week to week... most have a "bounce" weight range... or perhaps have gained some from their all time after surgery low weight. Some even gain it all back and some, but not that many as far as I can tell. Some statistics find that there is a three year bounce... around 15% regained(I think it was that much) from after surgery low...for many. Such as lose 100 lbs, then gain 15 pounds.

Exciting News For The Norcal Group

Hi guys and gals! It is really fun and informative to meet up in person with others in your area that have also had the sleeve done, or are thinking about it. If you don't have a support group attached to your medical center, or could use some more face time with real people who understand where you are coming from, lets get together here in our own NorCal VSG Support Group, and plan on meeting up in person for coffee or a walk or whatever you like in the future. Post events in your area that others might enjoy, or plan your own event. Lets start by getting to know each other better here and go from there! Cheers, Kim (Feedyoureye)
