You Can Gain Weight With The Sleeve
feedyoureye replied to MINI-Me's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I have been walking the straight and narrow for two days.(this is the third). I have lost over 5 pounds! This being said, it is all water I'm sure. Glad to get it off anyway. Just shows how eating all that crap can pack on the water weight! I am not eating low carb, just lower... under 100...and saying no to the treats always at work... staying under 900 cals..cutting the regular bread and whites way back.... sugar- byby. Back to the dance classes at last, you know, the things that got me to lose weight in the first place... and of course restriction is still pretty good. I can really stall while eating right, so I know this can't last, but it is sure encouraging to start out with this nice water dump! -

I know this is not the right place to post this, but here is a pic of a local party I went to last night, posed with Santas helpers... I found a bag of "too small" cloths I was hanging on to... and this fantastic red silk coat was in it... YAY most of the cloths fit~ Even though I have gained a little, I have so much to be thankful for! Happy holidays friends. I am cleaning out my refrigerator and going to the fantastic farmers market we have here, and stocking up on lots of fresh veg and fruits for the week. Cheers! -

You Can Gain Weight With The Sleeve

I just got back to dancing two weeks ago as well... so nice to be back on track with that! -
I am sure you already know this, but it bears repeating, nicotine slows the healing process. You really want that staple line and incisions to heal up nice and fast...no leaks please! Now THAT would make you really anxious! Bet of luck, lots of herbal tea and exercise?

Am I A Candidate For Vsg - Brutal Honest Feedback Needed
feedyoureye replied to chaya's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I am a vegetarian, and am almost 2 years out. I have had NO problem getting enough protein, however for the first year, and even now I sometimes use protein shakes to boost my protein. I throw a muscle milk lite into my ice coffee, easy peasy! I can't eat as much in a sitting... but can graze like no ones business... and eat plenty of the wrong things. I have gained some weight, but still am SOOOO happy I have the sleeve. I am having to go back to "diet" eating, but that being said, its still easier than before. You do not have to give up grains, however the first year you need to really focus on protein and low carb veg to get the most out of your sleeve. I really missed the veggies, and started making veggie soups, blended at first, and could drink a lot of thoses... at a low calorie/carb cost. It took many months before I could eat raw, salads, fruit skins and such, but now, no problem. The time will pass, the sleeve will become more forgiving, and it will be easier to gain. It is a great tool though, and well worth the risk in my opinion. Oh, and I was lactose intolerant for a few months early on, making it hard to get protein through milk, cheese and such..(whey was fine), but that went away after 3-4 months. -
I used omeprazole for the first 8 months. I got a prescription chewable. The over the counter.

Wow. Get thou to a clinic girl! Could be an ulcer or something! I get a pain under my left rib... but usually it is when I am sitting around all day... I think it is actually my rib smooshing my guts or something. Perhaps scar tissue-adhesion.... -
Are you taking a PPI? This can reduce the hunger feeling.

Good luck with that! Let us know how it goes... Im pretty close to doing the same thing after my mom in law returns home. Cheers! -
Just take care with gulping... 600 cals is not bad, but your stomach has had its nerves cut and is tender and healing and perhaps numb?... don't force stuff in, take small bites and eat often if needed...the soft stuff just slides on through... when you get to solids, you will feel much more restriction until months later when you can eat more. You just do not want to add pressure to the staples so early out. Just follow your Docs advice.

Quiet here isn't it!? Im fine... just got back to dancing class last week.... after months of not being able to go. SOOOO happy about that! i hope that will help me to drop a couple of pounds, and really, to feel some more energy and tone. Getting ready for Thanksgiving ... Thank goodness I have the sleeve! That will at least slow me down! The family is going to a buffet... There should be plenty of good (and not so good) choices. -
OK, I have been here for 2 years and I just can't seem to find how to post my Before and After Photos....the ones that are empty under "my Profile" I'm sure if it was a snake it would have bit me by now, but for the life of me, I just cant find it! Thanks, K

I looked into it too... the reviews are not that great... french fries Yes..... other foods, not so good. I would be interested in hearing what others have to say too... also very small batches, so if you are cooking for a family, maybe not so practical, for just yourself , maybe yes.

What Am I Doing Wrong?
feedyoureye replied to pebbles99's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Everyone loses at different rates. Everyone has a different sized stomach, eating patterns, carb intake, exercise routine, age, gender, diet history... and Dr. My Dr warned me that people have the tendancy to gain more weight back with the sleeve, but did not pressure me to "lose faster" or even name a goal weight. He just wanted me to follow the directions and see what happened. Even if we all did the exact same things , our weight loss would be diferent. That being said, its great to get ideas and encouragement from others. My advice? 33 in three months is respectable. It is easier to lose weight at the beginning after the surgery than later, so if there is anything you can do to tighten up your practices, then go for it. But as someone else told me, if you lose 100 pounds in 4 months, or 18 months, you have STILL lost 100 pounds, and you are at goal. Just try to enjoy the ride, and remember some folks ( like me and you) have a lot of stalls. I had a 4 week stall starting at 3 weeks. I did everything right. My body just said NO for a while. Use measuring as well as weighing to chart your weight loss... sometimes you can lose inches and not pounds. Best of luck. -
New Dad/husband. Scared Straight. Just Got My Surgery Date. Please Help With Advice
feedyoureye replied to rxkid2384's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Some of the reasons for the 6 week liquids are prob the liver size, like you mentioned, and some doctors want to see if you can keep doing something you are told to for an extended amount of time. Your success will hinge on being able to follow orders for a LONG time. That includes not drinking coffee (make that caffein...) and alcahol, fizzy diet or reg sodas, beer and such. The reasoning behind not drinking sodas are that the long term studies are pointing to weight gain with regular AND diet sodas. The fizz does seem to cause some problems as well. We all know beer is full of carbs, and our little stomachs will be tender for quite a while, perhaps over a year. I am almost at 2 years, and there are still things that tummy just doesnt agree with, and i have a pretty cast iron tummy. I can just now eat hot chili after two years, and I always used to eat things HOT. We have a set of habits, some of which have gotten us into trouble... now is the time to change as many of them long term that we can... or at least part of the weight will come back on. I speak from experience, having gained 11-12 pounds. I know it is from eating habits (junk food and grazing) and a reduction in exercise (knee bone spurs... working to remedy this) Even those 12 pounds tell me the sleeve is working pretty well because my portion sizes are better than before surgery... the more changes you can willingly make in the quality of what you eat, the better for you and your kids and busy lifestyle. I have a glass of wine now and then, I stay away from caffein, I eat almost anything I want, protein first, and try and keep the portion sizes down... do the best you can. It will pay off in better weight loss and maintenance. Best of luck. -
My nose runs when I'm full.

The first few months my stomach sounded like water going down the drain! Sort of a gurgling sucking sound. Its much better now(22 months), and only once in a while growls.

Looking Into The Sleeve
feedyoureye replied to snrussell09's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
FYI, the sleeve was started as the first step of the duodenal switch, not the RNY. Drs found many of those who did not go on to get the second part of the surgery still lost weight. The sleeve was developed as a stand alone surgery from there. People have had their stomachs removed for many reasons for many years... most live a happy, thinner life afterwards. My Doc said if I did not lose enough weight on the sleeve, or gained a lot back, I could always get it switched up to the DS. The DS is very drastic, and high maintenance... but has the best weight loss statistics. I have had the sleeve going on 2 years, and it has been a breeze for me in most ways. I have had a weight gain bounce.. of about 12 pounds... but my life and health are SOOO much better, and quality of life is where its at. Go for it. -
I find adding a piece of cheese to the apple helps keep your blood from spiking from the sugars.

Teachers....how Much Time Did You Take Off Following Vsg
feedyoureye replied to Mrsdw206's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Teacher here,my work would not let me come back until the Dr said I could lift over 10 pounds. 6 weeks! They have since made a place for people to come back to work in a recovery phase....2-3 weeks. I was very ready to get back to work at about 4 weeks.
