Weight Gained Since Having Gastric Sleeve Surgery
feedyoureye replied to sleeve 4 me's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
A few more studies... knowledge is power! http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/20622654 http://www.thinnertimes.com/weight-loss-surgery/vertical-sleeve-gastrectomy/vertical-sleeve-gastrectomy-candidates/print.html As with any bariatric procedure, long-term weight regain can occur and, in the case of SG, this could be managed effectively with re-intervention. Informed consent for SG used as a primary procedure should be consistent with consent provided for other bariatric procedures and should include the risk of long-term weight gain. http://asmbs.org/2012/06/sleeve-gastrectomy-as-a-bariatric-procedure-update/ -
Weight Gained Since Having Gastric Sleeve Surgery

Its a very common mistake early out to think that ones self and everyone else will feel the way you do right now forever. I remember early on I felt like you do. Studies show that after 5 years VSG has about the same weight loss as RNY... that would be between 50% to 70% excess weight kept off. Please do not think of a weight bounce or not getting all the way to goal as an out and out failure. This is a long haul lifestyle change... and keeping even 50% of the weight off over the long run is better than most do going on diets and yoyoing around. I still work to get to goal, at 2 years... I have had a "bounce" for several reasons I can see for myself including an injury. I have worked to adjust and not gain any more... but losing those gained pounds are still just a little beyond my reach at this point... I have not given up and I may have to tear down some hard seated beliefs to get there. Time will tell for all of us. In one study I found: The patients who received only a SG (n = 75) had %EWL of 53.6, 65.8 and 62.6 % after 6, 12 and 24 months, respectively. Revisional Procedures After SG Over the total observation period of 24 months, a second operation to induce weight loss was required in 25.0 % (25) of the patients to develop further weight loss or amelioration on comorbidities. Three patients underwent RYGBP and 22 patients DS. http://www.medscape.com/viewarticle/771803 here is info from another study… not new studies…. shows 53% EW kept off at 6 years... http://www.thinnertimes.com/weight-loss-surgery/vertical-sleeve-gastrectomy/vertical-sleeve-gastrectomy-candidates.html by these % I am actually doing better than average, but still want to do 100% if possible as we all wish! Still looking for a newer study.... FYI: 90lbs goal (100% Excess weight loss) 85lbs highest weight lost (94.4% EWL) 65lbs current weight lost (72.22% EWL) -
Sleeve: The UNTOLD Story
feedyoureye replied to NotTelling2013's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I had my surgery in the US at a teaching university med center. I'm sure there were a ton of pimple faced students there in front of all my naked glory! I had a surgical nurse come up to me while I was being prepared, and tell me she would make sure there were not any sales reps present! I was being used to teach robotic procedures... so naked, strapped to a vertical board, and being operated on by a robot! Now I would have liked to see that myself! I tried to get a CD of the procedure, but they wouldn't give me one....I had next to no problems, and it was a great staff. -

8 months was also the time I started to feel more hunger coming back. Keep writing things down, eat more veggies to fill up, and some say that stomach acid can cause hunger... do you take a PPI? -
Rapidly Gaining Weight 2 Years Post Op Sleeve Surgery
feedyoureye replied to nikki042's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
What Space Dust said. The results the first months are a little deceiving for many. It really looks like you won't EVER want to eat much again, I know I couldn't stand sweets early on (now I like everything as much as ever). You can also learn to 'eat around' the sleeve... eat a little bit many times (grazing) eat too much of the wrong things, like ice cream, chips, crackers and some other things just seem to go on down the hatch without touching bottom (sliders). You have to remain vigilant, the tool will not say no to you in the same degree as at the beginning (except protein first does seem to continue to work pretty well for most) -

Rapidly Gaining Weight 2 Years Post Op Sleeve Surgery
feedyoureye replied to nikki042's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I know I have posted some of this else ware, but here goes. 25 months out from surgery. I lost most of the weight, within 5 pounds of my modest goal. I stalled out there for months and months, and really I was quite happy there. Then I screwed up my knee, stopped over 50% of my exercise and my dear mom in law and sis in law came visiting for 10 weeks. We did a lot of travel, including a stint in New Orleans at the Heritage fest of food and music, ate out LOTS, cooked LOTs and had happy hours every day with snacks. Just how I like it apparently. I gained 18 pounds without a how do you do. Easy Peasy. I attribute this to NOT WRITING IT ALL DOWN and less exercise. So, I came to my senses, started writing stuff down, keeping track around last November. I went on a 1200 cal plan... and did not lose anything for a month. I went to physical therepy and finally got back to the gym and dance class twice a week, as well as walking twice a week and added weights twice a week as well as more gardening. I decided eating 1200 a day was crazy, and I sure aqs hell was not going to eat LESS to try and lose the 18 pounds. I did some research, joined myfitnesspal, quit fitday, and started eating MORE. I am up to around 1800 a day, and not losing any weight, but not gaining any ether. I bought a fitbit, and am really trying to figure out how to move more. It also tracks your sleep, and I am looking at how much I sleep (not enough!) I still don't drink enough water, but do log what I drink. I am guess I am doing want I need to do to maintain where I am. I would like to lose those 18 pounds but short of eating less than 1200 I have not been able to do it yet. I just do not want to go there. I feel good, I recover quickly after exercise. I am sassy. I will be 60 in June and my life is pretty good. My journey is not over yet. I am getting to know my body better even 2 years after surgery. This is the plan I have been looking at: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/groups/home/3817-eat-more-to-weigh-less it proposes I eat 1800 a day to lose weight very slowly until I reach my goal. We will see. I have been following it around 2 months and have not gained or lost. Even though I have not lost, it feels great to eat 1800 cals insted of 1200, I don't obsess about food nearly as much. I even have to make myself eat more some days. -

January sleevers......what's your weight loss so far?
feedyoureye replied to pottergirl's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
January 19... 67 pounds.... after TWO YEARS! We are in this for the long haul, please do not compare your weight loss with others or feel bad if your don't stack up...(even if it is sooo tempting to see if we are normal or not...), we are all different.... if we get to our goals, that is all that counts. Keep up the good work peeps! -
Im not loosing any weight after VSG surgery
feedyoureye replied to sherytuta's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You may have to break your recipes down in myfitnesspal. Such as: 1/2 cup rice 1t oil 1 cup greens 1/2 cup fava Beans or whatever your recipe is... there is a place in MFP where you can put in your recipes and how many servings, and go back and check it in without having to list all the ingredients every time... You can make your own smoothie with yogurt and fruit or Protein powder.... I do not worry about the carbs so much... eat protein first, then salad and veg, then carbs.... don't worry about carbs in milk products or beans, it is healthy for you in my opinion. I am 2 years out, and you can eat more at this time. Fill up on veggies if you are still hungry. For exercise you can dance around the house... march in place in front of the TV or to the radio...youtube has good exercises. I take belly dance lessons, and dance around the house... there are lots of good lessons on youtube. If it is proper in your neighborhood, you could take walks with your son after school at a park or in a mall. It is so sad that your Doctor is so uninformative and rude to you. He sounds like his "bedside manners" are horrible. Best of luck to you. -
Frozen Yogurt Six days out?
feedyoureye replied to kimikat3's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Two years out... I'm on a bender eating frozen yog 3 times a week. I keep it small and low/non fat. I skip the sugar free because the sugar alcohol gets to me. I log everything I eat, and pay the price by not eating something else, or exercising a little bit more. I also bought the ice cream maker to make eggfaces protein ice cream recipes. I just got a new blender with a smoothy setting... I take an ESA carb control protein drink, a few ice cubes and a 1/8 cup of peanut flour...wizz it up and so YUM. Also 25 gms of protein. I think it is always wise to keep to the Drs plan... especially early out... that tender little tummy needs lots of TLC. Don't make it digest more than it has too early out...plenty of time to test the water later!(as if water is the problem child!)...oh and by all means, go ahead and eat the pets wether you paid for them or not... they are non carb!(unless your pet is a potato) -
I will be 60 in June 2013. I had the surgery 2 years ago last January 19th. I lost to 8 pounds from a modest goal. Then I had a knee problem, stopped the gym, and had inlaws visit for 10 weeks. Dont get me wrong, I love them, but nothing like happy hour every night, dinners out and special home dinners for that long. Gained 18 pounds. I have stopped gaining, and am maintaining for 2 months now. Im back at the gym, I started lifting twice a week, I dance twice a week, and I walk twice a week. I also work in the garden right now and have been shoveling, digging, weeding and pruning. I just bought a fitbit, and am watching my quality of sleep and steps. I am figuring out how much energy I use every day, then eating between that and my BMR. This is much more food than I have been used too and I feel much better. Im not as obsessed with food when I eat more(of the right things) I don't know if I will lose any more or not, I am trying to eat quality, have fun while moving more, and sleep enough hours a night. I am falling short of drinking water, and need to work harder at that...(or smarter) Anyway, All in all Im pretty happy with it all, I have more energy and enjoy physical activity much more than before the surgery. For my 60th birthday I am dying my hair blue. No growing old gracefully for me girls. The sleeve is a great tool, it has not let me down yet, but it is not an end all do everything treasure. The first few months its kind of easy to think you will always feel the way you do then. Thats just part of the ride, but don't assume that this is the case. Cheers all!

Thats the plan anyway.Trying to get into the expenditure more...walking more, parking at the far end of the lot, taking a walk at break..... trying to get more sleep....

I see some people here who are years out eating 800 a day... Im sure they are thinner than I, but it takes 1600 to get enough nutrition to fuel your body without losing muscle 9I have been told) I managed to lose a lot of weight on extra low calories, and ended up training my body to live on less.... I dont think that is really a good idea. People who eat only 800 cals a day to maintain might be labeled with an eating disorder if not for being under a Drs care....I just don't feel so frantic about food when I eat more. I do not want to gain all my weight back, and watch it pretty close... but I have been maintaining now, and am adjusting some things trying to get a little bit more off in a heathy way. I have a fitbit now (just two days) and the last two days (non exercise/gym days) I have been burning 2100 cals a day. I look forward to seeing what that is on my walking and gym days. So eating around 1600 or so on my non exercise days still leaves me with a 500 cal deficit a day. I am NOT losing on this... but I just think if I keep this up I may be able to train my body to not hang on to every calorie so tightly like it has been for the last year. I eat most of the calories I use up on exercise days as well.
-
Indian Hindus are veggie, Indian Muslims not... I have been working on upping my calories for a couple of months.. I was eating 1200 and NOT losing. I found a plan where you eat more to lose... I have not lost, but have not gained... and eat 4-800 more cals a day. Much better.

Everyone draws a line someplace. Perhaps you wont eat dog, but cows are ok, perhaps you will only eat meat that comes from animals you have killed. Just like any other system, we each find our own boundaries...perhaps dictated by a clan or culture, or perhaps from personal conviction. Who cares what it is called really, names are just a way to generally show where you are coming from or your affiliation. Its made up.I have even heard of vegetarian palios! Some Vegans are militant. I can see their point. ONce you see the position we put animals in for our eating pleasure... its not as hard to go to this position.

perhaps we should call it Peking Djuck.

Heres a roast duck recipe with yuba... http://veganfeastkitchen.blogspot.com/2006/07/buddhas-roast-duck-with-yuba.html
-
The duck recipes I have seen are made with yuba (soy skin) OK, here you go, my GIANT list of food I ate today... I try to list almost everything... That dinner list is for a giant salad.
-
...my list is so long it would take up a page! Have you guys tried yuba? Here is a recipe for yuba "ribs" which could pass for jerkey if cooked a little longer... made it with korean bbq sauce (too salty for me) then a Peanut Butter sauce...yum... I think sweet chili sauce will be next.... yuba is the skin from the soy milk making process, you can get it diferent ways, but this recipe uses the dry stick form... Im going to get some more today! Its good chopped up in a stir fry, with rice, on a sandwich.... http://www.artisanveganlife.com/game-day-fare-bbq-ribs/ this one looks good too.... http://chowvegan.com/2009/10/20/veganmofo-bbq-yuba-ribs/

I know there are some on here, and have posted about this before, might try and do a search to see if you can find the info... mine was about 36 if I remember... at two years, I still need to lose 18 pounds, but thats not bad at all in my opinion! My doc said ecpect to lost 50 pounds, I lost 67 (actually more, but thats where I am now after 2 years and a bounce)
