Gastric Sleeve Experts... Please Chime In!

If your goal is 180,and you lose all the way to 180, then you will be at goal, and that will be 100% EWL. If your goal was 179 and you got to 179 then that would be 100% as well! getting to goal is losing 100%. If you get half way to goal, that is 50% EWL. -

At two years, I'm not done yet...I really do not want to get a DS if I can help it... wouldn't I have to gain back all of my weight to get qualified to get the DS? I'm not sure how it works. When I saw the Doc for the first time he did say something about getting a DS if I gained the weight back.... you are most welcome to be here... We hope we can be a voice of reason from our experience. ... best of luck to you... -
Best of luck Jane, so sorry for your loss. You are doing the best thing by maintaining conscience.

Congrats lady! You have done so well and look great!

Weight Gained Since Having Gastric Sleeve Surgery

Although the old "calories in- calories out" message does seem to be at least partly content dependent, I am of the school that if you eat 800 calories of cake a day, you will still lose. However you wont be healthy, and the sugar will make you ravenous from insulin spikes which leads to more eating! What the Doc means ( I think) from "you can gain from drinking your calories" is if you drink milkshakes and high calories drinks they just slip on down... don't really make you full for long and you can eat again soon after...The idea here is eat healthy real food, Protein first, log your intake to make sure you are in the right calorie range, add in some exercise..choose nutritious foods!...my doc also allows Protein Drinks and at 2 year post surgery, I still fit them in now and then to up my protein... I have found from hard won personal experience, eating cake leads to eating more cake...and it does not really fill you up... hunger later leads to eating again... this makes it hard to keep in a calorie range to maintain or lose. I have to say I do eat cake now and then... but write it down and keep in my calorie range. At this time I am maintaining/losing(with a small l) ... and did this during the losing phase... in moderation and in the context of keeping track of what was going in my mouth. This might not work for everyone...I don't follow strict low carb, but go by calories in/calories out more with only slightly reduced carbs. -

Look up "Three Week Stall" Many people have/had it. Do not believe that you can stay at the same weight or gain on 300-800 cals a day forever. Right? -

I just saw an interesting medical lecture that says that underweight people who smoke have worse longevity statistics than overweight people who are fit and don't smoke. It also said many people who are underweight smoke. It is a dilemma, but if you lost weight for health reasons... you know what you have to do.... and hit the gym to get fit if you don't already. I know I know, easier said than done! Best of luck. -

in the TDEE plan, you count your exercise cals... as part of your TDEE. My TDEE is around 2300 cals for the exercise I do every week + my bodily needs, breathing, sleeping, digesting and such. My energy needs if I am laying in bed all the time is around 1600 cals, so If I eat less than 2300, and more than 1600(to keep from going into starvation mode) I should lose weight very very slowly. That being said, I eat less than 1600 many days a week at this point... I have a baseline of 1310 cals a day, then eat back all my exercise cals.... so I eat between 1310 and ? around 1750 usually.... This is less than the TDEE plan recommends, however, when I was eating 1200 and not eating back my exercise cals I was not losing any weight... I took that up quite a bit, for a while, did not gain, the made a cut to where I am now, and have lost around 5 pounds in the last 3 months. Its an improvement. To do it right you need to eat at your TDEE until you stop gaining weight (!!!scary)then make a cut of around 20% or less depending on how much you need to lose, and go from there....they also say cut back on cardio/aerobic, and up your lifting time and weight.... please read the links, I may have something wrong or be saying it poorly.... -
Doing weight bearing exercise help with bone loss too...none of us want to go THERE! Heavy people have some big bones because of this... when we lose weight, we can lose bone mass at the same time if we don't add weight to our workouts/life activities.

Pretty early on I knew I wanted veggies back in my diet, so started making veggie soups. I really couldn't eat salads very well until after 8 months, now I eat them like a champ. I'm not sure where they go~! I must have a hollow leg or something, I can eat a pretty huge salad. I eat apple slices with peanut butter, carrot or cuc slices with hummus.... fine chopped kale with sesame oil and chopped fruit and veggies/nuts.... I just started by eating them cooked... and slowly added raw bit by bit. I couldn't eat apple peal for the longest time, now, 2 years out, no problem. I just love getting in all those colors and fiber and vitamins! I love the taste too and not many calories at all...as my stomach has relaxed, and my hunger returned some, the veggies really help to fill in the blanks.

You need to figure out what your goal is... look at a chart or talk to your Doc for this. Then take the pounds you have already lost, devide it by the total amount you want to lose, this will be a .something number... this is your percent EWL. I needed to lose 90 pounds I have lost 69 pounds 69 devided by 90 = .76666.... so my percentage EW lost is 76% -

Good for you Jane! I did something similar... not so much booze but treats and not keeping track... I have finally found a place where I'm not too hungry and still lose ...very slowly... more like 1/2 a pound every two weeks... but thats ok as long as I can keep it up for about a year! Then I will be at goal! I still have hope! I have lost about 5 pounds of the regain so far... -
what's the difference between something that fits and something that's tight?
feedyoureye replied to coops's topic in WLS Veteran's Forum
Under garments really make a difference.(do you watch Gok?--How to look good naked? http://www.channel4.com/4beauty/style/fashion-tips/how-to-look-good-naked-fashion-tips ) Start by getting fitted for a bra. Almost ALL of us are wearing the wrong size.As others have said... I think a realy great gift you can give yourself after all the body changes is get a shopper or well dressed shop girl to loan you her eyes while you are trying things on. You might also work up two or three types of looks... for school, flirty and sporty or something like that. I have always worn bags during weight loss stints, then when close to goal bring on the well fitted cloths, and BAM!! People really have something to say... all positive... so even though your uncomfortable with compliments, get ready, deep breath, enjoy and say thank you! No "I really planned to lose 5 more pounds" or "Ths old rag", let people compliment, and let it sink in. I try to update my makeup and hair now and then too...to keep up with my body shape and personal style. You are already a beautiful lady, inside and out Coops, its time for the big reveal! Good luck with the shopping and once you get the look and size that works, it will be easy peasy! -
I bought the exact ice creaqm maker that she uses... the reviews are good for it for the price. I got mine on sale for around $35 I think...

Weight Loss Advice 'ignores Body Changes'

My chart says I should be eating 1964 cals a day at my current exercise routine to lose 28 pounds in 190 days.... (this is my original goal that I have not reached yet...) I have been eating less than this for the last 4 months and have been bouncing around in a 5 pound range that time... and am just below the low end of that 5 pound range at this time...hopefully heading DOWN. Today MFP says I can eat 1753 because of all the activity I have done today...Looks like I wont eat all that...at 1418 right now and not likely to eat it. But many days I would eat it all. On low activity days I would eat around 1300 or so. Here is my chart.... -

Chike makes delicious meal replacement shakes, they are higher calorie, lots of protein and extra nutrition. Their banana and the chocolate are delicious, You can also get samples from their site to test the flavors... they have orange cream too I think...... https://www.chikenutrition.com/ You can even mix a tablespoon of Peanut butter in and make yourself an Elvis! It is thick and rich, may take a while to drink. Mix with soy or milk for extra richness and protein. https://www.chikenutrition.com/chike-variety-pack.html -
This will not work for you with Celiacs , but when i really want a waffle, I use Bobs Red Mill Low Carb mix and make it myself. I can even freeze a second, and eat later when the urge calls. http://www.netrition.com/bobs_lc_bake_mix_page.html 1/4 cup= 120 cals, 8 usable carbs and 12 grams Protein
