    5:2 and Body Fat

Have you guys been checking your body fat? The 5:2 claims that it reduces body fat better than other eating methods....my only record of my body fat percentage before starting 5:2 is from a Bod Pod test I had at about 8 pounds heavier (on my way down) 2 years ago.... it said I had a percentage of 36.9 (excess fat-not that good!) My scale here has a body fat setting... I don't know how accurate it is... I never have used it, until a couple of days ago... and again this morning... it says 25.9 percent fat! ( lean for my age!) Thats quite a drop from the bodpod...) I think I must have had at least some fat loss.... I'm going to try and keep track of the last 12-15 pounds and see if the body fat goes down more. I have some of those pincher things (calpers) that measure body fat too, I will dig those out and try them as well...
  2. Yea... thats my man! So he decided that he would just eat fruit and veg every other day. He started out well in the AM, then we went to a potluck... He was sitting there looking round, really lost with all the food. I feel for him, he has never had to practice impulse control really.... I was eating (sorry honey, I told you my fast days were mon and ths) and I got a veggies burger. I know I can't eat the whole thing, so I offered him half, all verggie and not far from his plan. He ate it, but then.... when he got home the deal was off. He kept going to the fridge, the impulses that make one do that were in charge. It doesn't take that much for him to lose weight, so maybe that will be enough... hope so. Hes a contrarian, and I have to make suggestions so he thinks he thought of it himself or he resists! I know how I felt when others made suggestions about how I should eat....

How was your 5:2 day today?

I think its so important to log all that stuff, even when your off plan, or its hard to figure out the cals... just to remain conscious of the cost of any different situation, GOOD FOR YOU! Hoped you enjoyed yourself!

    5:2 and Body Fat

OK, so when we lose body fat, the fat cells empty out, but are still present right? So I would think that there will still be more "mass"where the fat cells are, even if they are not being plumped up with as much fat..... (Miss not-a-scientist trying to be a scientist!)

    5:2 and Body Fat

Discussion on the topic of loose skin and caliper use: http://www.myfitness...lipers-accuracy most on the thread said it would not make any difference (non of them had loose skin to start with!) and the two people who seemed like they might have a clue (fitness trainer and someone who had asked a professional) said YES it makes a difference... such as "I just had the caliper test and the hydrostatic testing (where you get dunked in the tank) and I asked about this (bc I'm curious like that). The tester told me that yes it will affect if its very loose skin like you had gastric bypass and have tons of skin all over otherwise no. And also the hydro testing in these cases is a better alternative."
  9. Laura, do you think you could "pin" this topic? Thanks!

How was your 5:2 day today?

Eating some extras today, had carrot cake from whole foods, and some stuff from their salad bar... so yum! Luckily I went kayaking today for 2 hours, and then will have dance class this evening. That should cover the calories, but its strange sitting here eating cake! EDIT next day- no weight gain, but the cake made me feel so yuck! When will I learn!?

Down a little more. MFP asked me if I wanted them to reset my calorie and exercise goals because I have lost 10 pounds since the last time I did it.... NO thank you! Doing well as I am. I don't really want to lose faster than I am at this point. Unless I hit a giant stall, it will be off soon enough, and then we will see about the BIG M!

How was your 5:2 day today?

Fasting and ready for it. I liked how fasting made me feel on monday soooo much, I was looking forward to today. I just feel like my metabolism is kicking in right now... don"t know how long that will last, but lovin' it now! Even on feast days, I was loving it. My food tasted so good, and at the same time I could hardly get to my calorie goals. Love when that happens, which is not that often if I'm not cooking for myself. Going to LA in a couple of weeks, and will have to go onto "maintenance" mode then. (only one fast in the week) You all have a nice day, and don't forget to leave some room for something better to happen than you ever could have imagined!

    NSV shout outs

I am 2 1/2 years out and I finally got to a "normal" body fat percentage! I'm still not at my "normal" BMI, but thats getting closer.
  20. Might be the lower carb way to go... but perhaps eating high probiotic fibers in their natural state would be good/cheaper too... whole oatmeal (I made some for breakfast.... I have been trying to eat less carbs in the AM) Also they say eat more cultured sour foods to diversify the gut microbes. I was looking up the lowest carb, highest fiber grains and oat bran is quite high in fiber and protein...
  21. grain and sauerkraut.....and more...
  22. ...Let me be the last one to Hijack... read this, 4 part article, that talks about the importance of what comes out "the other end"! and weight. http://www.motherjones.com/environment/2013/04/gut-microbiome-bacteria-weight-loss?page=1 Most intersesting!
