I take a box of tofu (You can use silken, or firm for this for different results) cut into 1/2inch slices. pour all liquid off and return to box. Take 1/2 cup of miso paste... I use the light colored brown rice variety. Mix with 1/2 cup fresh lemon juice OR 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar and 1/4th cup Water. Pour over tofu, make sure it gets in between pieces. cover. Let sit in your refer for a week or more! If you use the firm, you can gently rinse the marinade off, and crumble like feta or use in a sandwich or lettuce leaf. The flavor is sharp and cheesey. If you used the silken, wash very gently, you can mash it for a dip, or spread it on toast, or just eat it like I do. Its really a cheese replacement,if you are trying to get away from dairy, this is nice. I also pan fry it, grill it, and smoke it (not in a pipe) Sometimes I just like it cold, dried off and sprinkled with soy sauce and a few sesame seeds. Simple and fresh on a hot day.

How was your 5:2 day today?
feedyoureye replied to Oregondaisy's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Honestly, Im kind of glad when I feel a little or a lot crapy from eating something I used to gobble down all the time. My body is finally asking for some good food now and then, in stead of becoming a zombie for cra(p or ck)cakes and other kinds of food drugs. Not that I say no all the time, but I do say it more often. I just did a possible crazy vegetarian move today... I have been researching ancient grains, and cleaned my refrigerator, then headed to whole foods (or whole paycheck as we call it here...) and bought some Kamut (found in an Egyptian tomb?) in abut 3 forms (flour, rolled and cracked). Spelt (preferred by Europeans in the middle ages) in two forms(flour and crackers), and Einkorn ...( the same grain that was found in the icemans stomach)! NO GMOs. Older undeveloped types of wheat. Some used as early as 9000 years ago. I use white whole wheat at this time, not a lot, but modern wheats can experience drifting contamination from fields of GMO if they are not already Genetically modified. So I am switching over to older grains to see what happens. I made some (1/4 cup of cracked Kamut in 3/4 cup water in my rice steamer, with some veggies from my garden, red cabbage, Brussels sprouts, mushrooms salt and pepper, and some "chi'kin" veggie stock powder. It took about 15 minutes to cook up, and it was lovely, resotto like... a little grated parm, and a dribble of olive oil...next time I think I will ad an egg...)It was lovely. Im not feeling any kind of carb spike...yet...) -

At first I spread it out more, the last couple of weeks I have a protein drink in my Ice coffee, I stretch it out from 8am-2pm or so then maybe have a crystal light or plane ice tea until dinner. So thats 100 cals, then around 450 because I never seem to stick to 400! I read somewhere (always dangerous) that maintaining that ketosis/fast state by only having low carb protein drink did not put a strain on the body... but who knows! -

13 months post op with 15-18 pounds left
feedyoureye replied to TheNewSusie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
as you can see in my states, I lost 83 pounds, then began to regain.... 22 pounds. I was close to my goal, but I never got there. I then started trying some different eating strategies, and found other vets that were having the same problems as I was, regain, not achieving goal, and difficulty losing regain. We talked about this and other problems that come with some age with the sleeve. A member of our group heard about the 5:2, and we all tried it to see how it worked. I have lost 11pounds since June 11th. I went on vacation twice, gained a little and it came right off when I went back to plan. I am currently 6 pounds from my post WLS low, and am 12 pounds from goal. I believe I can get there this time... and have a plan for maintenance I think I can live with. Take a look at the video that started this whole movement and see what you think. We do not recomment it to people who are less than a year out from surgery, but you seem like you are in the same place others of us on here were at as well. Eat-Fast-Live http://video.pbs.org/program/michael-mosley/ Best of luck! -

...down to within .3 of a pound from my 5:2 low. So happy this is working... getting those vacation pounds off had not been too bad, and I had fantastic vacation food. Having this confidence that I might just get to goal, then keep it off is such a high! (6 pounds to post WLS low, 12 pounds to original goal) -
Hi Jane! Welcome! Great support here. You can do it!

Bigger than the rest....
feedyoureye replied to MrsAnders's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am not a "super" loser, but I think this was the first place I said my weight out loud as well. I have had my sleeve for 2 1/2 years, and have not gotten to goal yet. I am close, and I know that I will, probably this year. You will be so much better off if you do it. will you reach goal? Not all do, but if you don't give up, and continue forward through difficulties, taking the long view, you can make it to a much healthier you. What the docs dont usually tell you is, losing is the easy part. Maintaining is the hard part for you must work at it the rest of your life. But the rewards are great, and you will be so much healthier and can be there for your family and have so much fun being active in your life. We have a "vets" forum here, you can go there and see what the people have to say that are out more than a year from surgery. Best of luck to you, a true adventure awaits! -

Some of us "Vets" are using the 5:2 plan to lose the last few pounds, and then to maintaine. Look in the vets forum for more info. http://www.verticalsleevetalk.com/topic/90290-52-folks/ -

I've done this whole thing as a vegetarian... gain, lose, gain and lose again. It can be done. I am known as a good cook, and its always veg. I do make "fake meat" from scratch now and then, to get that hit of "meat" without the meat. Some of the best veggie cooking I have ever tried, check out: http://veganfeastkitchen.blogspot.com/ Bryanna Clark Grogan has many cookbooks out to die for! http://veganfeastkitchen.blogspot.com/p/recipe-links.html -

Just butting in here, I LOVE the 5:2, been doing it for 2 months and have broken a VERY long stall/gain spell. Have lost over 10 pounds. But the Vets that are doing it all recommend that people wait until they are out a year before trying it. Follow your docs guidelines. If you can't reach your reasonable goal by 12-18 months, or are having trouble maintaining your goal, or are gaining and cant lose it again... dig right in! After a year or two you really get to see how the sleeve and hunger and such works, and you will be ready to try this if you need it. So far the Vets that are experimenting with this plan really like it. See my stats below for my history if you like.

It just confirms what we all suspected. Getting the scientific field to see it is a relief, don't you think? We are NOT just lazy gluttons... and people who are naturally thin eat 20% more than we do to maintain. It is a heroic effort for us to maintain. We already know this first hand. Perhaps at some time there will be a treatment to support maintenance of weightloss. -
