  2. We all hate stalls! But you are still a success! Hang in there girl, it will come off in its own sweet time. You no doubt have lived through many stalls in the past, and broke through them. You will with this one too. 9 POUNDS!!! hurray!!!

How was your 5:2 day today?

Measure too, I read someplace that the 5:2 burns more fat, so might show up on the tape before the scale.... also the website says expect one pound a week, so really you are ahead of the game!

How was your 5:2 day today?

In the short time I have been following this plan, I have taken several "breaks"(read that eating out for days on end, missing fast days and other vacation behavior) and have found that as long as I stay mostly moderate, and fast before I go and after I get back... I stay the same or gain just a little and it comes right off. So sweet! And an update on my eating more whole grains, so far so good! I know carbs are some peoples devil, but so far, my weight loss is a little better than normal, and I am eating whole grains (ancient grain types) every day.

2 year post-op bone density scan results

You just have to give it your best shot in life. Medicine doesn't know it all, but Im sure those docs at Kaiser are doing the best they can for you. Really, thats all we can ask for in life. Learn better, do better. I am always looking at the research, but you can find research that is the opposite of the ones I found as well.

    heartburn after two years?

I read this too.... I stopped taking my PPI after a year because of Calcium absorption... I have not had any significant acid problems... when I do I can see its what I ate... rich, chocolate based food. The 3 year statistics showed that heartburn went hand in hand with regain as well.... Im guessing people start eating more of the good old standbys... too much too often.

I have a weight watchers scale too... I am 60, and my bone density is over 7... so I guess its all good. I took my calcium citrate for the first 2 years, not so much now, I do eat lots of veggies and take my vit d and magnesium since reading the newer research on calcium use.

I have read this too... my Dr. friend (my age, woman) will not take calcium.
  12. I bought them all except the pillows. And used most of them. Watch the protein powders, you may spend a lot of money and hate them. Try samples first.... Or just drink them if you don't like them... like medicine!

How was your 5:2 day today?

Fast day today! I find some comfort there for sure. My "I want to do everything I want" voice is complaining, but thats the voice that got me into trouble in the first place! This morning I got back to my lowest 5:2 weight, after 11 days of vacation, fancy dinners, a birthday party and house guests. Not bad! I threw in a couple of fast days where I could, and never gained more than 3+ pounds... and now its off. I hope I can break this low this week a little more. Onward to goal! And I have a hope in hell that I can maintain as well! Have a nice day everyone.
  15. I move around 5 days a week... for about an hour each time, I dance, I walk, I garden, I occasionally lift weights. I have been doing this for 5 years. I can see it in my body shape more than ever. I'm not trying to be a downer by posting that research, its just that I have MFP set to tell me how many calories to eat if I want to lose 1 1/2 pounds a week, (I also us a fitbit, and eat back some of my exercise calories) and now I have also added two 500cal days to each week layering the 5:2 over my already calorie counting plan, and finally I am losing... not quite one pound a week... which I am happy with, but reading those leptin findings just made me feel like there is a reason for my slow loss. I'm not just freaking doomed to live in a mystery body that regains for no apparent reason while I eat less calories than I expend according to MFP and fitbit. I am in better shape than I have been for years. That science is the one thing not on that list that I would have liked to know before WLS.

  17. Not according to the research so far. I don't know how far out they are on their trials..5 years maybe? . I posted the research somewhere here, I will see if I can find it....

    Fast Day

Is there a giant salad or steamed veggies available? Maybe some bulk with a single serving of jerky?

    Accelerated heart rate

... could be a slight allergy to something... I get the same thing at times... I do have atrial fibrillation... but I don't think this is related... I get it when I make home made pudding.... milk, chocolate, corn starch, add ons.... when I keep it simple, and eat a smaller portion that seems to help. These ingredients alone do not seem to trigger the event.... ....Some people experience palpitations after eating heavy meals that are rich in carbohydrates, sugar, or fat. Sometimes, eating foods with high levels of monosodium glutamate (MSG), nitrates, or sodium can bring them on. If you have heart palpitations after eating certain foods, the problem could be food sensitivity. Keeping a food diary can help you identify which foods to avoid...... http://www.webmd.com/heart-disease/guide/what-causes-heart-palpitations
  20. The only thing I would add is: 7. After a person gains then loses more than 10% of their weight, their biochemistry has changed. We maintain on 20% less calories than people who are naturally our new weight-lost weights, and we expend less energy doing the same things. This is a fact, and knowledge is power. It may not seem fair, but it must have helped our ancestors stay alive in leaner times. We can still eat well, exercise well and enjoy our lives well... by using our "tools" and remaining accountable in our lives. ...or something like that....

    Why maintenance is so hard...

Thats how I feel about it to.

So glad you are feeling better, Happy Birthday!
  23. Sorry! Poor form from me! I'm sure my scale will give me a reality check about eating such things in the morning. I have to say, when I got home and input all the crap I ate today into MFP. I didn't have enough cals to have dinner! (sadface) Anyway, I went over by about 150 cals, but some days are like that. New day tomorrow, and fast day on Monday. Have a nice sleep all.
  24. let me know how it goes....
  25. I had a piece of birthday cake too... the kind that turns your tongue blue!
