5:2 and women: Not much data yet, but...
feedyoureye replied to swizzly's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I saw those articles too. I do not do Paleo and do not have any of the symptoms mentioned, so I just kind of moved past the articles. Swiz, by all means try a variation on the 5:2. -
How was your 5:2 day today?
feedyoureye replied to Oregondaisy's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Is it harder to lose the older you get? Before WLS my high was 257.... I would lose and gain, but never over 257. During Perimenopause, I found it harder and harder to lose, easier and easier to gain, and I had to eat less and less to stay the same. At one point I just started to gain, got to 259 or so....my blood pressure, cholesterol, triglicerides all started climbing. I started exercising regularly (which I had never been very good at in the past) and this did not help. Thats when I decided WLS was on the table. My health was going down the drain, and I could not lose weight any longer on my own. (not that I could keep it off for that long in the past) I would have to say yes, it does get harder. That being said, I consider myself successful at this point, post menopause... so far. -

OD, have a great time in Portland! I have never been there, but really want to go... have friends there too. UK Cathy, I work at a day program for adults with disabilities. Love my work. Today is a holiday, and with hubby back I think it would be easier to change my fast day to tomorrow where I can just cruse through it at work. I try not to flex this plan too much (when i bend something too much, sometimes it breaks!), but so happy I can now and then! -
How long post-op did you need shakes?
feedyoureye replied to gamergirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
at 2 1/2 years I still use 2-3 shakes a week. My doc doesn't mind. Shakes are fluids, and at least partially count towards water. Early on I used shakes like medicine, didn't really like them , but found some high protein ones and drank them down as much as needed to get in my protein (mine was also over 65). I did this as a vegetarian, so bean soup, greek yogurt and (after the lactose intolerance went away) cottage cheese, eggs, refried beans with cheese, peanut butter.... For me, I just wanted to get in as much nutrition as I could, so shakes for most of the protein, and lots of veggie soups for vitamins, fiber and yummyness! Of course now, I can eat anything! You will know it when you can get off of shakes, just keep trying other things now and then to see how they work for you. -

Dude! OUCH! I hate falling on the bike, but its better now than it used to be. The road rash makes you look like a tough chick! -
not sure, maybe 5 weeks?

Sometimes I can say no. Somethings I choose not to. Sometimes I feel like I am out of control of the decision. I made the pact with myself, if I eat it, I write it down. This seems to really help. Its when I choose to eat it, and not write it down is when I seem to get TOO far out there, out of control, regain, even if I think I am eating OK.

I had a couple of extra snacks today as well. Husband got home from his 2 week motorcycle adventure to Canada, so made pizza dinner. It was so yummy, and not TOOO over the top. Nice to see the old man again. -
Butter, did I miss something?

Great article. My Doc said he would not give me a goal weight, because He did not want me to feel disappointed if I reached a different weight in the end. His Dr. Assistant asked me if I could be happy losing 50 pounds (20% of my weight) and I said yes, but 90 would be better. I can see the context of their comments better now.

...got on the scales and chunked off 1.4 today. My first goal is to get to my WLS low.. which is now 2 pounds away.(174) My second goal is to get to the top of my NORMAL BMI, which is 7 pounds away(169) My third goal is to get a little lower, to create a defendable bounce range, which is 11 pounds away.(165) I swear, I had a backlog of things I needed to do yesterday... got on the phone, got on the computer, got in the car and checked them all off my list.... I think THIS is the weight I lost yesterday. No kidding! Where is that address that you got all the weight range goals from? -

OK here is a recipe for two fairly large servings! It is very moist, and a little pudding cakeish. mix 1/4 cup of Einkorn or Kamut or spelt flour AND 1/4 cup of Besan flour (garbanzo flour) I know I know, weird ingredients! add 1t baking powder, a dash or two of salt, mix well (you can also add 1T cocoa powder, if you like) in another bowl, mix 1 eggwhite whipped a little bit to break up the "lumps", 1/8th cup of SF Torrani, I like salted caramel, but whatever goes with the flavor you are making. Add water... around 1/4 cup... or a little less if you are using einkorn. Mix the wet into the dry. turn over in the mixing bowl, do not beat too vigerously... If the batter is too dry, ad a little more Water. Do not taste the batter raw, the besan tastes like crap raw. oil a large mug... with sides that are fairly up and down. Do not fill more than half way. Use a small plate or saucer to cover the cup . ( Add nuts, or chocolate chips or chopped plums or other fruit at the end. Push a few down into the cake, but leave most on top. Chocolate sinks as it cooks and all ends up on the bottom. ) put in middle of rotating microwave oven with cover firmly placed on top. Cook for 1 minute 20 seconds covered. Take out and look to see if it looks done. Turn the cup over on the saucer. The cake should drop out without sticking. I leave it covered to let it steam a little while(a few minutes) lift off the cup... you can see if it is done. poke it with your finger... springy is good. If you have added fruit it is a little more moist. Cut into half, slice one half for today, and save the other for tomorrow or share! I usually make one of these for weekend Breakfast with coffee (I know I know, you aren't supposed to drink with your food... its the one meal I cheat on this one) here is a sample of a whole cake, I also put some butter on this one, and the cream is for coffee. I ate half at breakfast, and the other half after dinner... quite a cakey day. Its a good reason to give half away or make a half order.... (this recipe halves quite well) so half of one without the butter or the coffee cream is around 170 or so... this is with nuts and fruit.... -

Scared this might be a mistake
feedyoureye replied to christy38's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Statistics say that you are more likely to keep more of the weight off with surgery. It is just a tool, and a lot of work goes into using the tool, for the rest of your life. This would also be true with changing your eating habits with a new diet without the sleeve. Do you feel like you are caving in or taking the easy way out or doing the drastic thing by getting the sleeve? Do talk to your surgeon, therapist and nutritionist again, and discuss this with them if you have the chance. Best of luck to you and whatever decision you make. -

Heaven knows I don't want to get anyone else in trouble with carrot cake and the like, but I do make stuff like that, with egg white, torrani syrup, baking powder, and very simple low sugar and low fat ingredients. I might chop in a pluot, or add some walnuts.... log it on MFP and enjoy. Not three meals a day, but maybe one meal a day.... or less, and never on fast day. So far so good. I do eat reduced carb, but not low carb... except fast day is pretty low most of the time. A serving of the einkorn flour is only 1/4 cup... that is enough to make a mug cake in the microwave. -

Bless their little poopie hearts! I buy them from Elliots in Sacramento, but you can get some spelt stuff at Whole Foods and I'm sure at any of the health food co-ops in SF area. I also am eating Kamut and Einkorn.. Both very good... Im sure the microbes love them, the proof is in the poo! -
