...also, keep in mind the ladies who have been doing the protocol here watch what they eat on "feast" days... keeping it pretty low.... like 1200-1500 a day depending on exercise and such.... not whatever they want like "normal" folks. We follow the basic eating plan for the sleeve, protein first, don't drink water with meals.... you know the rules.

5:2 recommends hitting 50 gms Protein on fast days. 500cals for women (I went on one of the sites, and they figured 550 for me... guess because Im tall.) They stress protein and lots of veggies. Keep it simple. They recommend lots of Soups, stir fries and such... Here is the original large 5:2 forum in Britain- http://www.52fastdiet.co.uk/ what is it? http://www.52fastdiet.co.uk/5-2_diet.php

globe, I def found ladies with different sizes than me... like you say, flat stomachs but others that looked quite a bit like I think i look, it goes to show the variety of ways that women can wear a height and weight! Lots of them wore a smaller size than me too....I think at some point I will post a pic, to join the variety!... without a head of course... ;P -

That would be so cool! I love calligraphy, I'm not any good at it, but actually taught a class once, and just tried to keep a step ahead of the students... who knew nothing about it, so it worked out for everyone. ............ Now that IS a good way to end the day! -

OK Laura, I'm going to take you on a little ride. If you don't want to go on a little ride, then skip this post. Otherwise..... When your cleaning those toilets, picture all those dark thoughts pouring down the drain and being replaced with crystal clear healing nectar of the gods. Your brain is now floating in a warm, lovely healing bath that reaches the deepest recesses of your mind, past and present. It flows down past your eyes, nose, ears and mouth, then through your spinal cord, and on through your whole body, polishing and cleaning every inch of your body, leaving you glowing and healthy, strong and flexable. All perceived impurities and imperfections are washed away. You can feel the warm radiance of your perfect being. And starting with your son and lovely husband, you can see that they naturally are glowing and healthy, just like you. You can see it in everyone around you, every lovely being. Some know it, some do not, some forgot, and some remember, but they all have it. You have always been this way, you just forgot for a little while. You are a perfect being Laura, you have Buddha nature built in. If you water it, it will grow. I know you can see it in your lovely son, now go give him a hug, and realize you are that too. Love and hugs from your internet friend, who obviously spent some time with a few hypnotists in her life, as well as a few Buddhists and did not forget their style... -
Keep in mind that the "5:2 ladies" do not recommend this program to people early out... We want you to follow your Drs plan. This is a plan for those at the end of their journey, who can't get the last few pounds off, have had a regain or having trouble staying at goal... Talk to your Doc or Nut about it first! It is also not recommended for those with uncontrolled Diabetes...It is not a fast weight loss diet, it is a longevity protocol that can also help with weight loss.

I posted the MIchael Mosley fast exercise link here someplace... he did a show on it, just like the fast eat show. Its pretty cool, 3 minutes a week exercise. Its basically a HIT program. promo... the long version is not online anymore that I can find... http://video.pbs.org/video/2364990532/ http://www.nextavenue.org/blog/3-minutes-exercise-and-two-fasts-week-future-fitness -

I found that video very interesting... My surgeon said the sleeve he formed for me was wider at the pyloris end, and I imagined that was unusual... but this vid shows exactly that... what I have is normal! Thanks for posting. I have a 36, and honestly, its not much bigger than a 32.
-
You have done really well Mokee, too bad your surgeon has such a bad manor.

Thanks for starting this Laura, and thank you all for your honest and thoughtful revelations. I keep writing more than this, but can't seem to say what I mean yet. Yes, eating food has been an act of self medication for me. During the years where I did some heavy reflecting on the whole process.. I realized that I was not getting the satisfaction I wanted from eating...I could eat anything I wanted really, this is a first world problem... and would... and come out the other end, unsatisfied. I would be full, I would be numbed, I would be fed, I would be stimulated by the taste...but I didn't get what I wanted from it... what is it I wanted anyway? Satisfaction. Now I don't know if the dissatisfaction was mental, chemical, or what... driven by insulin resistance? By unhappiness? By feelings or what? What kind of hunger? Perhaps a mix. I have to say that now I still get that hunger, and eating carbs (straight sugar content) will get me there quicker for sure... I want more, I eat more, I am not satisfied in the way I want... but must getting something, because I go back for more..... what I got was fat. Does the body want to be fat for survival reasons? Anyway... I have to say, that the sleeve helps that some (perhaps the ghrelin reduction) and the 5:2 protocol leaves me more satisfied. Even if I eat some sugar (not a lot....danger Will Robinson!!) but I think the fasting part, the longer rest between meals, helps me to feel satisfied more with what i eat... to see it a little bit more as fuel... the day after the fast, I have better restriction, and a little bit of a noticeable satisfaction from my emptiness. Its such a relief. I don't feel as much like I need to medicate with the food. I'm not saying its totally gone, just a little less... which makes life a little easier. I think about food waaaay too much... just following the tracking, weighing and reading labels, and cooking means I have to think about it to stay on track, but the "extra" thinking about it, that goes beyond that, the obsession, its not as much now. Off track? Sorry, train of thought... you should see all the stuff I threw out before posting this!

For those of you that have not read the full article, let me post this from the first page.... According to Brown Medical School research that analyzed data from the National Weight Control Registry, a group that was established to follow the habits and behaviors of successful weight loss maintainers, weight loss maintenance may get easier over time. And those who keep the weight off for two to five years greatly increase the likelihood that they will to continue to do so. Thats what I thought too. I have read these stats before, before I had the surgery and reached goal. It seemed so far away then, so abstract. But re-reading them, really means something to me, and I know applying them to my life is how i got to where i am, and how I will maintain. The sleeve is a piece of the picture too, it has made applying many of the "rules" much easier. If you research the study, there are other things on the larger lists.. including not watching more than 10 hours of TV a week...(I def did not follow that one!) But I get why that would be so... how you spent your time before surgery has to change.... there has to be more time given to exercise/moving.... cooking, support activities.... it has to come from somewhere... I notice that I really have a hard time getting everything done that I used to do, along with what I have added to my routine... TV is the logical place to make cuts, so there is time to include the really important activities.

I noticed that there is a real heavy love of soup on the 5:2 British site... I eat it almost every night myself, fast or not! I'm slurping a big bowl as we type! Say Happy Birthday to Steve from the "girls"! Sorry, I must have had 100 posts by my second week. I knew shit then. I know there are people here with less than a year that are as smart as a whip and really on top of the whole process (LV I'm talking about you! ; ) ).... just not that many! It is a process, and you can't help but have some revelations along the way. I think it would be more helpful to the young'ns if they could eves drop on mature conversations (not talking about juvenile fun now), but people who have gone through all the hell and heaven... not just almost there.... or not just 100 posts (I don't even think number of posts is relevant.. what about the odd bird that had her sleeve 3 years ago and just found the site!, not just 6 months.... it should be 12 months. You can't help but pick up some real knowledge... and to tell you the truth, I didn't get to goal until almost 3 years, so I can't even really talk about being in maintenance except the kind where you are trying to lose, and you are staying the same for a looooong time! -
On the whole giant list, number 24 meant the most to me. Enrich my Life Today - I need to work toward developing a rich and rewarding life - right now. I think I have used food as a distraction, and a form of drug... numbing myself from feeling other uncomfortable feelings... when I fill my minutes with building and living a rewarding life, the eating for anesthesia impulse lessens. I can see this giant list as a way to make clear areas that might bring you down... Most of them do not resonate with me at this time, except the last one, but i can see how picking out a few to work on could be very helpfull on the road to long term success.

I posted the list on the vets forum. I know, not really vets, I think you need at least a year to even start to get the full impact of the sleeve.... Skinny! the hot chocolate thing is so like something I would do! Chimera, what a horrible story! Just one thing after another, best of luck to her.... -

I will think about the best way to post this question... any ideas? Maybe just post the list of 8, people can then quote and comment what they want....? I'm sure your composition has changed and moved around... It does affect what you can make. If you have a trust, then that money can go towards anything but housing, medical... you can use it for travel, fun, art supplies... But keep in mind, it is a safety net for you if you really need it... if you are that down and out.... also medical in Cali is shifting, and Im sure there is something there for you.... Me too, only did it once in the last week, and really looking forward to it! I also have had some reflux from eating all the yummy crap! Im also sitting on a phone number to make my yearly appt for a mamo tooo.. got to get that on the calendar. -

Yep! me too. I have had a fun few days of excess... mostly types of food rather than how much food... I have put on a little over a pound, but feel confident that it will come off sooner or later! The plan is to get it off, make it through December and new years in the same bounce range, then hit the deck running at New Years. I have many parties, a short vacation with eating out, and Christmas to contend with... I think if I keep up the 5:2 in the short down times, it will minimize any damage. Hey, you girls all sound great! Fun reading this morning. Globe, my bro is on Disability, he didn't use a lawyer, I think the key for him was having Drs that would back him up. He resisted it at first, then after he had is for a while, is soooo grateful to have it... a little security in a difficult situation. He is bi-polar... ups and downs. At last, after years of fighting the meds, he has started to see how important they are for keeping his relationships in place. Do you have any Drs that might go to bat for you? CGJane, the booties are bootielicious! Good morning the rest of you ladies, love my coffee klatch here! -

Just looked this up. We all do most of this stuff. Thats why we are ALL successful. Even if we are at different stages of our success...we have beat the odds, and as this study says, after 2-5 years it gets easier for most. Nice to know! 'It’s a depressing statistic: Most people who lose weight don’t keep it off long-term. But instead, let’s focus on the people who do succeed at maintaining their weight loss over the long haul. According to Brown Medical School research that analyzed data from the National Weight Control Registry, a group that was established to follow the habits and behaviors of successful weight loss maintainers, weight loss maintenance may get easier over time. And those who keep the weight off for two to five years greatly increase the likelihood that they will to continue to do so.'
