New JAMA Surgery study shows Weight Loss Surgery is getting safer and more effective.
feedyoureye replied to Alex Brecher's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
That makes sense, thanks gals! -
The 5:2 diet, as it is described in the documentary and book allows eating or drinking anything on feast days.... what you usually eat. around 2200 cals! Then on fast days eat mostly veggies, try to get in around 50 gms protein , no booze, keep the sugar down, and carbs are ok, but not dominant.... mostly low glycemic index carbs. Rest your liver and other innards. Us gals here that have been doing the 5:2 eat reduced cals on fast days (500-550), low carb if you do low carb, (I do lower/medium carbs... not really LOW and have found success with that) and eat around 1100-1400 on feast days depending on what you usually eat. I think you can eat some sugar and junk, but then the carb monster rises up, and its just not that good for you, so eating good nutritious food is where its at in my book. I have gone through the holidays eating too many treats, and am still in my goal bounce range. I attribute this to the fasting days of the 5;2. BUT I am fighting the carb monster, and am working to get back to my cleaner routine as we speak!

Hi SarSar! Nice to see you here. I think its so neat you had a portrait done of the kids, you will be so glad you did later!...as will they.... sorry your still feeling down, I have a hint of that going on, but keep talking myself out of it.... shining light on it helps, and doing something on my list helps too. (ah, the list. Make sure to pack it with things that advance your sense of purpose.... it makes the doing so much more meaningful) Hope you have a nice day with your family... the eggnog bread, is it a quick bread or a yeast bread... sound delish! -

Congrats on the new robe! Thats a great story. I still have my giant robe, and kind of like it large and fluffy, but I also have a slinky satin robe that fits like a glove. Thats the one I wear when I don't intend on wearing it very long!

Thats ok Mistysj, I was responding to your post, then to Susies post after that.

Haha! Mine was always off by at least 40 pounds! Heaven forbid they know how much I weighed for real! Like they couldn't tell by the pic! I have to say after getting WLS is the first time in my life I have ever talked about my real weight, admitted it in public. Its like airing out the dirty little() secret is such a relief! People are shocked when I say I weight around 170.... they just assume that I weigh less... but really I think it is because I used to weigh so much more by comparison, I look so different. -
Not all people who have tried the 5:2 lose weight either. A few are very successful, others moderatly, others love how it makes them feel, and they maintain on it. Susie: How long have you been trying it? What are you doing? still counting calories and such? Drinking water? I know I have been eating more sugar and carbs, and calories and salt the last couple of weeks, but try and clean it up for the fast days. I gained a couple of pounds over my high bounce/goal, but managed to get it back into the range by the day after christmas. I am now fighting some carb monster because of my choices, but hope to get that off my back in the next couple of days. You are not a failure, perhaps it is not for you, or we might be able to figure out why its not working for you. After I had gained 16 pounds I tried a plan where I started gaining weight... the plan even said that I would gain before I lost... I gained 6 pounds and chickened out, It just scared the shite out of me. I then tried another plan that had worked pretty well in the past for me, I lost 5 pounds on that, then found out about the 5:2 and have had good success with that, losing 22 pounds to goal, but I had to crawl around and try a few things until I found something I thought I could live with and worked for me. I am still trying it out, and so far so good, but who knows about the future, I might have to start looking for some other approach some time if this stops working for me. It is a package of behavior, including exercise, water, protein, the scale, MFP, support here and fitbit. Not just diet.

You are diabetic? Its not recommended for diabetics. It sounds like water weight, have you upped your salts and/or carbs? This will pack on the water. No, gaining weight is not common.

You Should Not Consider Bariatric Surgery if..

Well said Laura. This is a good point. Health should be the great motivator, it helps make smarter choices if you follow your Drs plan. Looks are just a side effect, and like Mrs RRn said, you may not like the way you look after you lose. -

Jane, that sounds like fun. I have always feared getting a broken leg on the slopes, so never went there for more than an inner tube run or two... Husband had a dastardly skying accident years ago... his friends called me to come up, he was in the Lake Tahoe hospital with a broken leg for a week, he was avoiding a beginner show boarder and he hit some ice and bam. He now has a plate with 17 screws holding his femur together, and a pin used to reattach his ball joint. Luckily there was a great surgeon that specialized in sports injuries there to patch him up. I know so many people that just love skying... I will stay in the lodge and read thank you! I did rock climb for a while, that was fun, and mostly way above my strength level, but I did mentally difficult climbs, It helped me get over a fear of heights. My gym is a rock climbing gym... I love to watch the climbers, there are also people who practice tight rope walking there too... cool. I take dance classes there and occasionally hit the weights. There are 4 floor high rock climbing walls to use/watch. http://www.flickr.com/search/?s=rec&w=all&q=touchstoneclimbing+pipeworks&m=tags Laura, I am fasting today... came to work with a protein drink... the cookies and candy came out in the office and BAM!!! My had grabed one and stuffed it in my mouth without my permission! It had a life of its own! I will not give up, I may be over a little, but will try to stay close to fast rules the rest of the day! -
Came out the other end of Christmas dinner ok. I did not gain, am at the high end of goal bounce range and fasting today. I ended up eating a little less overboard than expected, and rather than being up by 16 pounds like I was at the holidays last year... I'm at goal. Thanks sleeve! Thanks 5:2, and thank you all for being such a good support system.

Yorkies will yap if you let them, they want to be the center of attention. Sukie (baba and the 40 fleas) was a rescue, we found her running in traffic! A little bigger in size than some... 9 1/2 pounds. (the tiny ones scare the shite out of me... worried I will step or sit on them) Yorkies are sporty dogs, bred to hunt and fight rats... Sukie loved to go hiking, and running with our bike rides... she is an old grannie now and goes on tamer adventures where we can carry her if she poops out. She barks more now, she is deaf and partly blind and Im not sure if she can hear herself... We don't care, shes our little girl. She has definitely been a therapy dog for me! (not official, but unofficially) Having her around has slowed our international travel, but we have gone on many road trips with her, motel6 let dogs in for free. And she went to to work with Craig for over 6 years. People would shop there because of her. Big dog in a little body. She trys to kill horses. Shes 15 now. -

I am testing my plan.... eat some off plan stuff a few of the days of holiday.... 5:2 fast one or two days a week, and so far so good. Up two pounds over my high bounce a couple of days, at my high end of bounce the last couple of days, fasting tomorrow.... then I should be good until New Years day.... I make sure to write it all down in MFP and try and get in some walks. Today I was over plan by about 700 calories.... the most yet, but with the fast tomorrow, that should balance it out. Not burying or hiding my indulgences helps me to stay in the drivers seat... writing them down helps me to face the facts about my choices, and not get caught by surprise with an unexpected weight gain, or a run-on unconscious eating spree. I suspect I will have carb craving for a few days... but thats the price of eating some real sugar and such in higher quantities. I have enjoyed most of them.
