How was your 5:2 day today?

Oh Florinda, that is so sad! Sorry you are having to go through this at this time of year... Oh my gosh... another deep breath... Sending love. Sheila, its hard when the place is full of family and food! Get thee toffee to the freezer! So sorry about your kitty kid, My little photobomb Sukie is 15 and getting frail, bad liver, getting blind and deaf. She still enjoys life, I can still see that tiny tail stump going a thousand miles an hour. The vet is taking it easy on her, she has lumps and bumps everywhere, but we have decided no surgery or going under for any procedures... I wish it was different, but its not. Frail parents and family members, frail pup...the Buddhists say "Life is suffering" so don't be so surprised, but I go kicking and crying (and eating) all the way....I don't like that truth one bit, but I do believe it. This is not to say there is no bliss, because I believe that too. The Buddhists also say that the suffering and the bliss are of the same taste when you reach an advanced state of practice.... I do not practice enough! Wishing the best for you all... of course.

    The 5:2 Diet

So, I've been looking up various foods I typically eat to get the caloric / health label information because I tend to remove as much excess packaging on things after I come home from the store to conserve on space in the fridge so looking up is my only option right now until I can make it back to the store to look at these items myself. I'm guessing I'm going to have to change my choice of butter, or at least make sure its the lowest I can buy. I'm not sure I can handle that butter spray even though its zero calories. Then, I got to thinking about what I drink everyday which is diet pepsi cherry flavor. I drink that like many drink coffee. Yes, I know there is lots of debate about whether we (those who have had WLS) should be drinking that- not going there, I don't believe it triggers anything for me. My issues are stress and properly managing it w/out using food aka carbs/ comfort foods. I would like to hear from anyone who does drink diet sodas and is on this plan and what their experiences have been. I am going to TRY to drink more water, but that will just have to be a work in progress thing. -------------- I drink a Hansons diet ginger ale maybe once a month. I never have been a great soda lover... lucky for me! Anyway, I support you in taking a look at your diet! If you use MFP you can look up the things you eat and find matches with all the details that add up your day. Its pretty fast. You can go generic If you don't remember the brand for an idea of what your consuming. There is a phone app as well, and once you eat something, its most likely on your regular list for that time of day and you can re-choose it.

Veteran forum, for vets a year out?

I know the definition has been a bit of a moving target, but there is a reason for it. You really do have different questions and answers further out... I mean, really you could make a case for having a 5 year out only forum... but with the sleeve, it would be mostly empty! I love hearing what people have to say about being far out from surgery... thats where we are all heading after all... a place where the concerns are past mushies, slow losers and feeling like you have lost those 30 pounds forever ...when you haven't even gotten to the 3 year mark yet where statistically the most regain happens. Its hard to imagine ever feeling hungry again or eating more than 1/4 cup of food early out. Its nice to have a place where that is just not in the mix. Most of the vets reach out and answer questions in other parts of the forum, and the Vets section is open for reading. I would have loved to have a vets only forum to read early out... pure gold! I could see one thread with "ask a vet" as the title, with the understanding that the vets would not be interested in answering questions that are not really about vets experiences.
  5. I have a pain that is sometimes on the left under the ribs, and then somtimes under the right, my regular doc said she thought it was just an adhesion. I only feel it when I am sitting on the couch... slouching. If I stretch it out, the pain goes away. I am at 3 years....

    Salmon 1 week post op

If your doc approves it, and you chew it super well, seems like it will be ok! Enjoy! Some like to add a little mayo or broth to meat early on, to make sure it is very moist.

    Anyone from San Diego

Out there? Are you going there for surgery, or are you from there? I am not from San Diego, but I had my surgery January 19th three years ago. Best of luck to you! You might want to check here for San Diego locals... http://www.bariatricpal.com/forum/400-usa-local-gastric-sleeve-support/ or if you search "San Diego Sleevers" in our search form above right, several will come up,

    Dating 2 Months Post OP

Loalexylee, welcome to BP! My opinion, if things are getting serious, then why not? I would just tell him the bare basics, and only more if he asks. Don't want to scare him off with the gruesome details. Keep it light and matter of fact. I would say something like "I just want you to know I am a cheep date! I can't eat that much because I have had stomach surgery.... or weight loss surgery. I am healthy and fine and ready to eat! (a little). If that scares him off or he has a negative opinion about WLS, then its better to find out now. Have fun and let us know how it goes!

    3 months post-op

Give yourselves some time. I think all my early weight came off of my face boobs and butt! The stomach was last in line. Do measure with a tape as well, sometimes its the best way to know what is going on when the scale is not moving.

    The 5:2 Diet

I like pickles too, if you post them in MFP it will count the sodium if you want it too, might be an interesting count! I count saturated fat and cholesterol because I am a little high.... I also count cals, protein, carbs. Just to see what I do, and adjust a little if needed.

    The 5:2 Diet

Perhaps start by logging what you eat now? Then you will have an idea how many calories your at.... Then that might be your feast day calorie goal. (I would not make it under 1200... but thats just me) Then go for 500 on fast days.
  19. ~The first one that really made a difference was looking at this process as a health process, not a looks process! When I made that change, it put everything else in perspective. So now, lots of the things I am working on have to do with that. Some I have already made changes in...like: ~Drinking Water More/enough has been hard, still working on that. I take a bath every day and put a 4 cup class of water there... must finish it, and maybe one more if a long bath! ~Having good variety of fruits and veggies and Proteins on hand, ready to cook... and making some things ready to grab and eat. (Im a vegetarian, and its really just better if I cook most stuff myself) I have developed a few recipes I really like, including a desert everyday. I make them from scratch using the best ingredients I can afford. I have gone mostly organic as well. I have a kitchen garden and raise some of my own food. ~finding exercise options that I REALLY like. I will just find a reason to stay home if I don't like my exercise plan. Now I dance twice a week with girls I really like, I walk two times a week with a group of adults with disabilities (don't want to let them down!) and started birdwatching... I carry my camera and tripod with me every day and find an hour here and there to hike in local wild locations just for fun and birds! I have found a few people to do this with, and have gone out with groups a time or two as well. I don't even do it for the exercise, just a bonus! I wear a fitbit every day to see for myself how much I'm moving. ~ I have a history of being a bit of a lone wolf! Finding a support system that is personal and enduring. I have a group of ladies here that have turned into friends that understand. And are fun! They contribute so much to my success. I continue to work on cultivating friends out there as well... like my dance gals, we are friends and have dancing (exercise) in common. I go to class to see them as well as get a workout. ~ one I have just started to work on is: Finding time to do some loved activities that I have stopped doing. I have changed my life so much post WLS that some of the things I used to find important and interesting have been squeezed out of my day. Some REALLY important things. The time I used to use to do them have been taken over with my WLS support activities... exercise, cooking, gardening, internet, birdwatching! I have only so many hours in the day, and am trying to figure out how to do it all! I can't just drop my support activities to make time or I will gain the weight back! I'm brainstorming that right now.
  20. Pagie, last year I gained 16 pounds by Christmas... then 6 more while trying to lose it! I finally was introduced to the 5:2 by Georgia, and lost 22, all the way to goal. It worked for me, and continues to work for me... even though I am fighting off the carb craving now. Check back here whatever plan you choose, and we will support you through the hardest time, getting back on track! You can do it! It actually took me almost 3 years to get to goal....but here I stand. You can too!

    The 5:2 Diet

Honestly, I'm hoping it will spark a small loss when I start eating better regularly after the spike in crappy eating (shaking things up!? ). I am already eating better, but my last two fast days were less than stellar. Carb monster! At least I'm still in my 3 pound goal range.

How was your 5:2 day today?

My brothers second wife had been married 5 times before him...and they had all died I couldn't help but wonder if she was a black widow! They split up, and she moved out of state... but he wooed her back again, and they are living together again. I don't think of her as a black widow now, but what that must have been like losing 5 husbands!
