6mths since surgery no loss in 3 mths
feedyoureye replied to sdsmsony's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I lost quite a bit of weight after 2 years out! It can be done. The first 6 months are the easiest, but don't give up, the sleeve will still work for you later on. I still feel restriction if I do protein first and add a couple of 16 hour "fasts" a week. (eat a early dinner one day, and eat a late lunch the next day causing a 16 hour fast) this helps me to feel the restriction in my sleeve better. -
Do measure if you haven't already. I was a very slow loser too... Do you use MFP or something like that to really look at the composition of what your eating? I really need to, or I start to gain. I have had many stalls, non for 3 months*, have you actually lost none in three months, or only a little in three months... ? * Actually, that is not true, at a year and a half out I gained weight, and it took me around a year to get it all off and get to goal, so really, that was a stall-gain on a grand scale!

should i start getting stuff now.

There are tons of things people talk about taking to the hospital, and really Most of them you don't need. A robe and chapstick are nice to have. YOu get really chapped lips from the opperation. I like the idea of changing the sheets, fluffing the pillows, I found a sippy cup nice for Protein drink and Water by my bed/couch. Your taiste buds will change after surgery, and you may hate things you used to like. You might order some sample protein packs to try out after surgery, then you can order what you like. I found most things too sweet at first. Clear the hall, you will need to walk walk walk, get the mail, around the block, make sure you can get around a bit ever few hours... and don't lift anything! Not for weeks really... so lift what you need now, get down the crockpot or inlist the kids, hubby or whoever to do that for you. -
Ever heard of Rabbit starvation? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rabbit_starvation I remember hearing about it when reading about the Donner party. ...It is similar to documented cases of “Rabbit Starvation” which is dying from eating only rabbit meat which has little fat. Thus the Donner Party, which was stuck in the Sierra Nevada in the winter of 1846/47, resorted to cannibalism when it did little good, that is, after everyone had not eaten for a long time. (Though it should be mentioned some new research suggests they were not as cannibalistic as once thought.) (may be offensive to some) http://www.eattheweeds.com/cannibalism/

I am a vegetarian, and my protein all has some carbs in it. Gluten has the most protein per ounce-104 cals-21 gms pro and 4 gms carbs, but you can't live on gluten alone! During the losing phase, I tried to stay under 100, and now in maintenance I am closer to 175 a day. The trick, I believe is using low glycemic index carbs rather than HGI carbs most of the time. It may or may not be why it has taken me so long to lose, but I did lose to goal and still eat a lot of carbs. If I get into pure sugar and highly processed "white" carbs, I will get the carb monster. Otherwise, not so much. For a long time I thought I might never lose weight because I was not willing to eat meat/fish/foul.... but LGI works as well for Vegetarians.... and protein drinks...

I always thought it was discouraged because its a diuretic....

Maintenance, life at goal, the thoughts that go through my mind as a "vet"
feedyoureye replied to CowgirlJane's topic in WLS Veteran's Forum
I have only been in maintenance for a month. Trying to figure out what that looks/feels like, and have the "fear" just a little as well... but try not to let it dominate my experience. The other day my husband asked me why I am still hanging around on "that website" and not just doing what I have to do and move on. This was in response to me bitching about how much time and head space I need to dedicate to losing and maintaining... and he just didn't get it. I would love to just live by the seat of my pants, but that train takes me to fat town every time! So there you go. Luckily (yes I said luckily) it has taken me 3 years to get to this weight, and I did take the time to learn somethings that works... Maintenance is 98 percent the same as losing so far....except I am at goal, which is awesome!!! -
Your in the right place! Having this support through the holidays really helped me a lot this year. Last year I gained because I stopped really looking at what I was doing and just "winged it". I still had fun and treats this year, but paid attention, and came out the other end in my goal range. We are here for you! Live and learn. Your plan looks sensible.

Last year I gained so much weight, this year I stayed accountable (scale and MFP) and it was much better. Even with lots of treats... I kept it in the ballpark most of the time because this time I was watching the intake more closely. Welcome back girls! I know you can do it! I am within my 3 pound bounce range goal... hope to take that goal down another 5 slowly .

The fast days are supposed to be separated by at least a day, but you can shuffle them around if it helps you stay on track... I do Monday and Thursday, but if Im having a party on a thursday, I might do it on Wednesday instead... no prob. I think the thinking on back to back is its just a little harder to fast for two days in a row, Pudding. 3/4 cup skim milk 1 1/2 T corn starch Torrani of your choice (I like chocolate for extra chocolate flavor, or salted caramel is nice too... SF of course...) 1T cocoa powder (or not) a drop of vanilla a shake of salt (or not... it seems to round out the skim milk flavor) I just do this on the fly, I do measure the milk, the the rest I am guessing here... The recipe doubles ok. I always make one for the hubby too. Mix corn starch with aprox 1/2 milk -set aside Mix 1/2 milk in a sauce pan with torrani (about 1/8 cup or more to taste) , vanilla, salt and cocoa bring to just below low simmer stir corn starch mixture right before adding to hot milk mixture drip it into the pot, still on the heat, and use whisk to stir until thickened... if it starts to boil, remove pan from heat, keep stirring for a few more strokes... if its not thick enough you need a little more CS. I like to eat it warm, sometimes I will add banana, or chocolate chips, or walnut pieces or marshmallows (not vegetarian ) or cool whip free.... what ever I can afford calorie wise. Change up the flavor as you like. Makes 3/4 cup serving, If you can't eat that much, split in half and share or save for tomorrow!

November sleevers! 6 weeks out and feeling discouraged!
feedyoureye replied to Alisa11/18's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
No need to worry, just keep on doing what the doctored ordered. Your body CAN NOT stay the same weight if you are overweight and eating less than a thousand cals a day. I know for the first 12 weeks or so I was eating a lot less than that and I had stalls that lasted for 3 weeks and more. I am a slow loser, but it did come off in the end. Later on I had to make some changes, but really if you follow plan, you will lose most of it.... stalls and all. Don't forget to enjoy your life, and feel proud for what you lose... however much it is. This is not a race to some finish line... there is no finish line, this is for life! -
There you go, thats what I'm talking about! Hey! My ticker disappeared!

Sounds good! After you get a couple of those under your belt, you will look forward to them!

Love New Orleans. The charm is lovely. So is the family. Glad your having a nice birthday! -
You can spread out your calories any way you want... some only eat dinner, others three small meals... just watch the calories.... I think taking a nice long break (the 18 hours is good) someplace in the night+day is a good rest for the body. Not eating too late the day before, and eating later on fast day works for me. A half an apple will not kill your plan, just add it to the calories and get as close as you can to 500. I'm fasting today too... a little creamer in my decaf in the AM, 0% Fage for lunch (sometimes I have a protein drink instead) , then stir fry veggies for dinner and home made SF pudding for desert. 530 cals. This is a pretty common routine for me.

I hope you like it Queenie! It has been a lifesaver for me and my waistline.

Had a fantastic day yesterday, went hiking and bird watching at one of my fav wetlands site. I went with a bunch of foodie friends, so the picnic was splendid! Too much salt, carbs and fat for a really clean meal, but so delish. Thank you sleevie for keeping the intake down! We went out to a local Indian restaurant that got good reviews on Yelp. OMG, it was just the best. A little hole in the wall, mostly take out business... some of the best Indian I have ever eaten, and all the foodies agreed. It is an area that was "colonized" by the Sikh community over a hundred years ago for the great farmland. They are an awesome presence there. So lucky to have them! Anyway, about 95 percent of their customers were Sikh community coming for takeout... a steady flow the time we were there. I will go back. Anyway, fasting today, will mix a couple of spoon fulls of the leftovers from Indian food to flavor my veggie stir fry for tonight. What a treat! Have a wonderful fast day all you fasters, if no a fast day, then just a wonderful day! M2G... look at your handsome hubby and cute girls! You all look fantastic, and sounds like a really fun wedding party! -
Hi Lisa, welcome back!

I know sometimes its hard to say no, but even with fitting in a couple of fast days, it makes a difference. We all say "I can eat that tomorrow!" with the 5:2, it helps keep me on track. Fasted Monday, and again on Thursday (tomorrow) and eating happy hours style all two days in between (super grazing) but hope to at last get away from the party and holiday environment after that... for a while anyway! Looking forward to that. Going out for a hike today. Cngrats to you, and it sounds like it just might work for you which is awesome!

Thanks all, I talked to him when he got out of surgery and he sounded pretty good, but he has had some many surgeries in the last 5 years, and 86 years old! Hes keeping them busy in the old OR.
