For years you thought that attachment and love went hand in had. Now you can see that attachment is more like an anchor, false security that holds back the best actions of love and kindness.

16 days Post-Op, Sad & full of regret

http://neurosciencestuff.tumblr.com/post/38271759345/gut-instincts-the-secrets-of-your-second-brain Here is info on that... not sure i how much is made in the stomach parts that are removed, but is made in the larger "gut" system.
  4. Sounds pretty normal to me. Use MFP if your not to keep track of portions... don't let that 5-6 creep up any more, it does get harder to re-lose...

Oh my gosh, I have heard of Parvo... so sad! I hope she pulls through soon. My nephews baby-mama works in a vet office, and there was a little Chaweenie there with a herniated bladder, the owners who brought her in asked that she be put down, and Kelsey said "no way" brought her home and is nursing her back to health. She is just a doll, so friendly, and seems to be doing pretty well. Bless you taking care of this little girl, she is lucky to have you on her side!

No time like the present to enjoy what you have. That being said, I have been having some landslides of sh-it raining down for a while, and it is pretty easy to forget to enjoy life just as it is! Really, it is the perfect time to practice enjoyment, because if you can enjoy NOW, when things are challenging, then you are pretty much set.

It may be my "tone", I don't know for sure I get more people doing that than some other people here... but do get a few, thats for sure. The "badge" may lead some of them to me. I get more questions about the 5:2 and vegetarianism than anything else... My professional Title/job description at my day job is "Direct service provider/program advisor" So I have set myself up as a go to person. Is that a part of being a host here? Advice from experience, keeping the boards straight, reporting glitches, making suggestions(about the site), removing bullies and welcoming the unwelcome... that is the host job description.
  10. Hi Heather, I really appreciate your questions to the Vets, just a note to let you know that this forum is only for Vets issues, by Vets. Under a year may post any questions in the General forum, and Vets will answer there. I am going to move this to the general Forum where you can get focused answers from us all. Congratulations on all the weight you have already lost, and best of luck in losing the rest. Thanks, Kim

How was your 5:2 day today?

OhOh! Looks like I'm ranting a little too! I think everyone has something to contribute to our culture/lives. Some of it is more financially remunerated, and some less... we have a tendency to attribute value to money, when I think some value is not so easily linked to money. Many(not all) of those "self made men" don't see all the little people who spend all of their lives emptying garbage cans and putting the cork in the wine bottle for minimum wage as part of the cost/support of their success. There isn't room at the top for everyone. You can work full time and still qualify for subsidies in this country... and I don't really think many of these people are actually working less hard than corporate big wigs or trust fund babys.(ever watch undercover boss?) I have a masters degree, have traveled to 22 countries, slept in the Bombay train station and been in war zones as well as on safari with a Maharaj in India. I am an adventurer of life and have sat to talk with beggars with Leprosy. I choose to make less than $12 an hour to work with adults with developmental disabilities... lots of head injuries, autism, downs....I and most of the people I work with have saved someones life at least once on the job. Most of them are artists. I work there for that kind of money because part of my remuneration is gotten from what I learn from them. Every day. It is clear to me that those who have NOT been diagnosed with some disability are just as likely to have one... of some kind as those who are diagnosed. We all have blind spots, weakness, vanity, ignorance, impatience, hatred or something that puts us at a disadvantage. We also underestimate the importance of Emotional Intelligence. I'm not one to think everyone should be treated the exact same way and get the exact same amount of money for services rendered...or for just existing... but a little more perspective is in order. My dads mom was married 6 times, he and his three sisters lived in a tent for a while. He is a self made man. He believes giving money and things is how you show love. He grew up with none. When my mom and dad got married her parents gave them an ironing board for their gift. He worked three jobs and went to school when I was little, getting his MA in education. I didn't have to go without like they did. But I do respect the work, and I feel responsible to contribute what I can contribute best to this world. I am grateful every day that I can pay for my own food and shelter, and still contribute something of "value" to those who I encounter. I don't hate them because they need help. I identify with them because they need help. I also respect them because they give help when they know how. I heard some story/study lately about how many corporate heads might be diagnosed as high functioning psychopaths... http://www.forbes.com/sites/jeffbercovici/2011/06/14/why-some-psychopaths-make-great-ceos/

Termite queen... Worth a quote! And as for the rest of the stuff... yuck! Sounds like the women's prison scenes in "Orange is the new black" on netflix. Love watching the show, but would NOT want to live them. I understand your list of desires. I love sharing those things too, but I chose to be an artist and low end social worker, so money is not a big player in my choices most days! People do seem to enjoy my company so I get asked along to some out of my league events.... but I really do not want to be seen as the "moocher" to them or myself. Its a dilemma at times. I treat them to my world... sleeping on the couch, great home grown food and tours of the secret treasures road trips I have found in California. They can buy the wine! I went out with an older guy for around a year(14 yrs older)... handsome, sporty, was a dean of a department in the Sciences at a world renound University... owned a Night club (thats were I met him), well traveled.... really "the package". When we broke up I was heartbroken and really spoiled for it in a way. I can't say I have any regrets though... Such is life. My little bell went off when I heard the Right wing Fox News talk you described.... I think that smacks of one of three things, Ignorance, willful ignorance or self centered lack of compassion. The first one can be cured with knowledge and understanding, the second two are difficult to near impossible at best. And painful to criminal at worst. Just a deal breaker for me... even though he sounds like an attractive deal breaker! You posted the shoe photo while i was typing... those are cute! I can see how they would look better with a dress than with the skinnies. Very nice. I have been hit on a lot lately too.. its so weird. I like it. It is interesting who is doing the hitting, the age, the looks and such. I find myself saying (to myself) "Would I do him?" haha! the sex brain is not entirely dead.

It takes around 3 months to really kick in, but stick with it and it should be worth it for you after that.... read directions on the back... I used the lower dose with good results.

    Ovo-Lacto Vegetarian?

At three years out now, I did it all as a vegetarian. I eat vegan many meals, but the dairy really make it much easier. I think you could go vegan, but just have to be willing to make it work... cook at home, find vegan resturants. There are vegan Protein powders, Beans, nuts, gluten, soy things... check out netrition.com for vegan protein products. I think that eating high protein is most important while losing... after losing, during maintenance, it is my belief that the number can come down a little. It is important to keep the quality of your food high though.

I am going to post your comments here, it will be easier to find in the future if anyone wants to clear up any questions about the form. "You did a great job summarizing it! Here is the key thing to the exercise; never write the "critical or harsh private voice/coach". Always write just the positive. We are actually trying to retrain the brain neuropathways here! And, if you don't have a negative statement to turn around, that's okay, STILL write a positive one. You may already have a good positive neuropathway established, turn it into a beautiful paved interstate! It must also always be specific, relevant and acknowledges your reality. so no "you're okay, I'm okay" stuff. It is very specific like a real coach would encourage you with out denying the truth of the situation. Imagine how that positve statement would look later if someone read it, would they think "what an effective, compassionate coach" or would you be embarrased? He also mentioned that this method has worked with huge ego people... they practice humility while patting themselves on the back. The speaker said people they interact with start noticing a difference within months - they are still high ego, but get better at showing appreciation to others because they did this daily practice. I am not sure, I may want to write mine by hand. I will try both, but often hand written things just stick to me better. I often use dry erase markers on my bathroom mirror. Words mattter."

Cathy, the beach! That sounds like heaven! I like any kind of weather on the beach (or looking out a window at it for that mater!) Have fun walking the dog. Sheryl, funny story- I still get tickled when i have a "normal" conversation with "normal" sized people and I fit in.... and congrats on the maintenance... what a relief when that can happen! Globe, When i lived in India, I had a room "sweet 16" that was a cement box with windows and a balcony with a view... but very austere... toilet (make that a room with a hole in the floor) down the hall... and I had a bucket and emersion heating coil to heat water to wash with and wash cloths... sometimes in the snow. I loved it so much! A little austerity can bring people together, and I tended to focus on what was rich about the place. The view, the culture the people. Im with you Florinda, cubbies can be wonderful (If the bed is adequate)
