How was your 5:2 day today?
feedyoureye replied to Oregondaisy's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I just wrote a long post, and blam, gone! Hello all, long story short, mom went in and out of the hospital, is now in the stroke unit at a care home...not eating or drinking aynthing for 7 days now... per plan. I can't imagine she will last more than 2-3 days, most pass 2-3 days after stopping water and nutrition through an IV. Mom is bringing us all together one last time...that has been very nice. I had comments for many of you... but not going back through the post to quote you... Chim, the whole rotten school think really stinks! It is a lot of work for sure...I'm off of teaching at the college level as well... I worked 7 hours out of class for every 4 hour class when I was teaching art history. That makes that $XX per hour lecture pay look a whole lot smaller. Sara, you are looking Maaahvolous! Sheryl, that farm equipment is fab! Coops, your daughter is lovely, and I want that dress! -

Wow. He is a human being not a drug. I really find this to be quite insulting. It was not ment as an insult at all. I had my "Steven" (his name WAS Steven) and really, I was so crazy about him even though he had some major flaws. He was like a drug for me... I had such a hard time finding the qualities he held anywhere else... but living with his down side was really bad for me. I finally had to develop those qualities in myself if I wanted them in my life. I decided that even though I loved him, that was not enough. I was projecting my experience with my Steven on your Steven. They sound a little bit alike. I think I remember saying pages and pages ago that you should go for it with him. You seem to really grow and communicate so well with him. I know I could not have been happy without at least trying to make it work with him. And learning from it. I think Steven may well be a keeper with flaws. Thats what my husband is, and I think I am a big girl for going there with him and not just waiting for my fantasy to show up. Sorry, rambling...tired.... -

Sounds like fun Cathy! What did you do Sheryl? The American River runs from the Sierra Mountains, through the northern part of downtown Sacramento, and joins the Sacramento river which makes its way to the Pacific. and on its way, a mile South of my place... We kayak on different parts of the American and other local waterways... within 15 miles or so from here. The Coyotes were spotted about 12 miles from here in a wetland preserve west of town. They do live much closer though... we are lucky to have a city with quite a bit of wild lands close by. if anyone is interested, I post more of my pics on my Facebook page... https://www.facebook.com/kim.scott.90 -
Weight Gained Since Having Gastric Sleeve Surgery
feedyoureye replied to sleeve 4 me's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Congrats for getting the 10 off! Thats the fight for sure. I could lose 10 more and be happy about it, but staying at my current weight is where I am finding my success right now, and I am so happy to be able to do this. I am fine where I am right now. Will I ever lose that 10 pounds? It is MUCH more important to me to maintain where I am than lose more. -
I use Protein shakes to try and get my protein in with low calories (Im a vegetarian), but eat your veggies, drink your Water, try to eat high nutrition foods, salads, Soups, avoid junk food, booze, refined sugar, extra salt... eat some raw if you can...Its just two days a week, so use them to really be good to yourself. You can spread the cals over the day, or save them for one bigger meal in the PM. I have a 100 cal Protein Drink in the AM, then eat the rest at dinner. The idea is to find a strategy that you can keep up... if its too out of the norm for you, then you won't stick with it. You want to be on this plan more or less for the long haul. Its not a weight loss diet, its a longevity program for overall health.
-
Two non consecutive days a week, eat only 500-550 cals. Many choose mon and ths, but whatever works for you. Eat clean. Get in at least 50 gms of protein those days. The longer between your last regular meal and your eating on fast day the better. The longer between your last fast meal and your first non fast meal the better. 12-16 hours is good. Read the links here, watch the documentary posted. Thats where they are here for. The explain everything pretty well.

Sarah! How exciting! I love living this through you... You sound so positive, and I'm sure you are going to look fantastic. I have a melted look, but I held my weight all over, so everything looks a little melted. My back is horrible. Im not even sure how that can be fixed. With cloths I look fine though.. so that is a blessing. -

I will post a pic. 2014 Suburu Limited Impreza Sports wagon... (could is have a longer name?)It is loaded, heated leather seats (it was 109 yesterday...), upgraded tires, wheels and sound system... It was so nice of him. He made the salesman include a 7 year 0 deductible service plan as well! Dad! Its his "parting gift". At 87, he knows he wont be there long to pick up the pieces for his kids... Wanda, my mom is in the same place... after the surgery she cant walk and wont eat. Good news, dad had a fit in the hospital, called the Dr and insisted she get more physical therapy- walk and get out of bed, and he prescribed three times a day, the nurses were a bit mad at him, but it is starting to pay off... mom took 6 assisted steps yesterday... so happy to see this. sarah! I can not believe today is the day! It just snuck up on me... Best of luck and so happy for you. What an adventure! Thinking of you. -

Mom is about the same I guess... she is off all the IVs, no tube in her nose, no monitors... but cant walk and wont eat. Not a good sign. She is just so weak. I brought her some art supplies, and she is drawing, which is cool. Love to see her do that. Yesterday my dad bought me a car. My first new car ever! I love it. He decided he wanted to "even up" some of the family gifts.. he has given a lot to my brother through the years, and my nephew as well. My niece not so much (he just took her to the dentist and is getting her teeth all done) and I always felt like getting dad to pay for stuff was disrespectful, the way others used him that way... so made a point of not asking for a bunch of stuff from him. He said he realized that he had given a lot more to others and wanted to set it straight, and bought me the car I really wanted yesterday. I know it makes him feel really good, and the rest of the family are just fine with it... they know their bread has been buttered by him through the years. It was a really nice gesture. Through all the stress, I have managed to keep right around my high bounce... not sure how! So happy about that. I am fasting (imperfectly) today... I will be a little over, but pretty close. Anyone have fun plans for the weekend? My nephew is having a block party at his place, and my hubby and I are talking about driving up to the mountains... so one or the other should be fun. -

The average weight loss at three years is around 57% excess weight loss. Some do get and keep 100% off, but it is not a "normal" thing to get 100% off and keep it off. -

As one of the "Old Ladies" of the site, let me say, please do not wait to have fun and feel good in your skin until the perfect circumstances arise. They may NEVER rise, and life is too short for all that waiting. I also know this is way harder to do than to say, but give it a go. That doesn't mean stop trying to get the results you want... just try and strip out the "I hate my flab" part... its mean, you would never do it to a friend... be your own friend. I try to thank myself daily for still standing upright (more or less) and moving forward in life. I sometimes catch myself saying means things to myself... but have worked for many years to stop that talk. Love all around! Maybe you need a tattoo! A big fat heart! -

Dead on my feet, but went kayaking yesterday, and it was just so beautiful out! Perfect weather. Saw a one eyed hawk... can you imagine trying to hunt with one eye? He is still alive, so has figured out how to do it I guess. Also saw some somewhat rare birds... its funny, Craig (the hubby) goes out with me on some of these trips, and he often says "not many birds today" when really there are a ton. He just does not see them, or acknowledge their presence. I threw in the pic of the cayote and the deer from a couple of weeks ago. This is for your distraction Sheryl! -

I understand! I was just telling my husband the other day that we need to set boundaries and figure out what it is that we can do for our family to be taken care of. It's just too much. I want to do it all ..thats the impulse anyway... but my husband has reminded me that he needs me too( ) and I have seen first hand how caregivers can get sick, and just give out when there is no one else to carry some of the load, or they just cant let it go a little. I don't want to get there, my dad and other family members need support as well... boundaries are good. I have talked to my dad about this already, and he is right there with me. They have had excellent lives, and have been able to experience so much happiness, I get a lot of satisfaction knowing this, even though now is difficult for them. Hey Sarah, where did you see the post on Dr A's death? I couldn't find it. -

It sounds like you might need a pic of your insides to see whats up in there... Keep in mind that sometimes after the nerves are cut in the stomach, you cant feel whats going on there for a while and you have to really measure your food. Many people gain weight right after surgery from the IV as well (I gained 10 pounds after surgery). That being said, it does sound like there might be something else going on... -

I have not been digging deep enough in this site lately, I'm sure I am missing a lot! Sheryl, great collage! Always drives the transformation home. Mom is doing better, but her short term memory is pretty shot. It wasn't that great before surgery. every time she takes a nap, then wakes up, we need to tell her she is in the hospital and she has had surgery, and the details of hospital life ( how to poo, what the IVs are, why she has a tube in her nose and such) It is sad. I must say she does smile now and then, and that is precious. Its pretty much my nephew and I spending nights with her, and that can't go on forever. He has been great, he has 4 little kids, and is going to school, but has really come through for my mom and dad. (and I!) We are daily evaluating how we can best take care of mom and dad and still stay healthy and take care of our families as well. Sad fact- We can not do it all. -

I am spending the night in the ICU with my mom. She started getting sick two days ago, and it turned out to be an intestinal blockage. Scar tissue from an old surgery strangled a part of her small intestine, and it died... they had to cut out 25 inches. She is off the respirator, and resting now, but at 84, she is not out of the woods yet. She is such a tiny little thing, I hope she can keep her weight on after this...
