    VSG vs GBS

Tiff, I have been recommended for both VSG and RNY as well. I am leaning towards VSG for some of the same reasons you mentioned. Might I get on your list so I can access the links too? Thanks for all the info, Kim

    meat... yuck!!!!!!

You can find Seitan at wholefoods or other natural food stores and asian markets. Its showing up at regular markets. White Wave is one brand. Or you can make a simple version yourself for cheaper. Look up the many recipes on line. Bruyanna Grogan has more complex but delicious fake meat recipes with high Protein...beef, turkey, ham, duck, sausage....and product recommendations. Notes from the Vegan Feast Kitchen/ 21st Century Table I will send a slightly complex but really good turkey roast recipe to anyone that is interested in weekend cook and freeze sessions. You need a crockpot and bread maker for this one.... TVP is make from soy and works well in tacos, chili and anywhere that ground meat can go when it doesn't need to stick together. Here is the nutrition for tofu and saitan side by side. Not too bad! Saitan can have a very meaty texture and holds a sauce very well. meat... yuck!!!!!!

I'm not one to preach, and believe we all must come to our own conclusions. ..but I do personally believe (I'm a Buddhist) that animals suffer much like we do. I just decided I don't want to be a part of that. I prefer they have the chance to live their lives in peace whenever possible, just as I would like to. That being said, I like the taste of meat. So I make fake meat like Saitan roasts and such upon occasion to fill my eating desires and piece of mind. Its easy most of the time. I live in California, and there are lots of vegetarians here.

    meat... yuck!!!!!!

I'm really happy to read about the seitan... I am a vegetarian and make a mean seitan roast from scratch... was hoping I could use this as a high quality Protein....my Drs list of protean did not include it... just soy. I believe seitan has a higher % of protein than soy.... I am still in the pre-op phase... getting ready for the big change... but don't want to make a change back to meat... Ill go check out your recipes! Thanks..

    Obesity as Morality

hahaha! My DH calls it "mutton dressed as lamb" and I see a place for it in my closet in the near future...I think I might have to rat up my hair at the same time...(where is the smilie icon with the batting eyelashes when you need it?)

    Obesity as Morality

Beware! " " used too many time ahead.... Great topic. I have had discussions with my overweight or thinking friends about the belief that being obese is often seen as a "Character" issue. Sort of a weakness in the individual that needs to be shaped up, or perhaps is regrettably lodged like a flaw in the "strength and originality in a person's nature". tisk tisk.... Like some lower/lesser form of life. I personally look at thin people and sometimes think of "them" as aliens. I just don't get how they are "naturally thin" without obsessive amounts of effort. Balanced eating and exercise for weight regulation may be true in the letter of the law of nature, but it is not the whole story for the obese or the thin. The idea that this is a character flaw is lazy thinking on the part of those who believe it is true...I have achieved many things in my life that involved great and sustained effort... I have not managed to loose and keep off harmful excess weight even though I have spent much of my life attempting this. I hope to enlist wls as the next tool in my arsenal. If the easy way out works I will be frigin ecstatic! I am tired of trying to cram my self into the 4% of people who have been able to loose a large amount of weight and keep it off for more than 5 years with just diet and exercise. Can you imagine the mountains that could have been moved if all the effort exerted by people trying to loose weight could have gone into something with a greater rate of return? Cancer cured....world peace..more educated children....on and on. I digress.
