That make sense. Thanks all. Dont you think this is a very interesting sub culture? And kind of hidden...Now that I am in "the process" people are coming out to me about their surgery. So many... mostly women in the hospital setting have had it done. Nurses and technicians mostly... I see people so differently...

How many appointments was your Psych Eval
feedyoureye replied to mskissty's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
hahahaha! I took a 160 question test that included some questions a bit like that. I go in for a Psych meeting in a few days. I wonder if I will have that mental disorder too? I am a pragmatic Buddhist. One of the questions was "Have you been on the cover of a magazine in the last couple of months" and I answered yes... was interviewed about my painting....I thought this was pretty funny to ask! Perhaps I should bring in a copy of the Mag to prove Im not delusional....:biggrin0: -

Planning my post-op diet

Here is some interesting info on Protein drinks...I see Collagen added to many of the high gm Protein Drinks and shots out there...:001_tt2: Performance Drinks: The Truth Hydrolyzed Gelatin Protein vs. High Quality Whey Protein Unfortunately, not every manufacturer uses high quality protein. Some are perpetrating the 'big ripoff' to unknowing customers who are purchasing supposed protein / amino drinks that actually contain hydrolyzed gelatin protein (other names include hydrolyzed collagen protein, animal connective tissue protein, other animal Proteins, etc.) Hydrolyzed gelatin is made mostly from frozen and fresh pork skins as well as cattle bones and hides. These inedible connective tissues and bones are then run through a series of caustic baths, intermittently with hot and cold soakings to separate out the collagen. This is what you are putting into your body when you drink a Protein Drink which has hydrolyzed gelatin on the label. Hydrolyzed is the basis for gelatin dessert, and although it might be a fun food, it was not designed to build muscle mass and it won't. This protein has a PER of almost 0. It contains little or no tryptophane, one of the essential Amino Acids necessary for the formation and utilization of all the other Amino Acids. It is a lot cheaper for a manufacturer to purchase hydrolyzed gelatin than the special whey American Body Building uses, which is a natural milk protein naturally extracted during the processing of cheese, after which the lactose, a milk sugar, is removed. When using hydrolyzed gelatin, the nutritional information panel on the label is supposed to make the statement "Not a significant source of Protein" next to the word protein. But they usually and conveniently forger to include it. Have you been using a product like this and not gained the mass you thought you should on a high protein supplement? Well, you're not getting any protein for it. Whenever you see hydrolyzed gelatin anywhere on the label, even if the label says the product contains whey, check your rear view mirror. Gelatin can cost 75% less than soluble whey, and whey is much more difficult to process. Given these facts, how much quality protein do you believe they are actually giving you in their products when gelatin is listed on the label. THINK ABOUT IT! For these and other reasons of increased processing costs, some manufacturers opt to go the easy way, and put low quality, low biological utilization proteins in their products. -

If you don't already have a fitday.com account, start one. Its very helpful for keeping track of nutrition, carbs and Protein. I have to find out more, but my Nut says NO shots, they contain low quality protein that the body has trouble absorbing. whey, soy and egg based drinks only. No collagen or casein. I see others enjoy the shots, but just FYI anyway. Here is the link... looks ok. Prob not vegetarian if that maters to you. Healthy Shot? - High Protein beverages and Drinks This site shows the quality of different kinds of protein... http://www.whfoods.com/genpage.php?tname=nutrient&dbid=92#foodsources -
I need some Help please!
feedyoureye replied to southernbanded's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I would go into your Dr. and ask him/her. I was at my Dr's for something else and asked if she could give me a referral to a Bariatric Center in the same medical system. Perhaps the Bariatric Dr. or the patient liaison in his staff can tell you if your insurance has approved the surgery for anyone else. I would think if the Bariatric surgeon thinks you have a case he might put in an appeal? I'm just guessing here... anyone out there from Louisiana? -

I have not had surgery yet. Still jumping through hoops. My Cardiologist just gave me a clearance letter for WL surgery. My VitD was way low when I tested 3 months ago because I wear sunscreen all the time... 11. Women should have closer to 40. I was feeling depressed, and eating lots of sweets too. I took the 50,000 once a week for 6 weeks and now am taking smaller doses daily. I do feel better and don't crave sweets as much. My Dr. said that there is not a lot known about VitD at this time, but lots of research is being done and it looks like it will turn out to be a very important vit. -
I just spent 30 minutes reading the Magic Powder forum... sooo funny! gotta try it! Thanks for linking.

stomach crunches??
feedyoureye replied to greeneyes's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
.. I take belly dancing lessons twice a week. I have not had surgery yet... I am a little worried about getting back into all the stomach isolations involved in that kind of dancing... I really don't want to get worse at my skills...I am hoping the incisions don't mess too much with my muscles too...I def use expansive moves for some of the isolations. I hope I don't need to wait longer than 6 weeks to start getting back into the class. -

Do you regret surgery and miss eating bigger meals?
feedyoureye replied to sweetlover's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgeon asked me if I would like to lose 50 pounds. Of course I would! However that would leave me at 200 pounds, better, but not in the "normal" range. He is probably being practical saying that, and I haven't been able to lose that myself so....but..... -

I would love to hear from some folks 4-5 years out, but of course, there aren't that many of them...I know you have less hunger early on...Its probably similar to those who had RNY... I would guess... I met a gal who had RNY 7 years ago.. she looked great! But she did say it was hard everyday, even that far out. -
My nut just told me that you can get too much zinc, and sometimes hair and nail vitamins contain a lot of zinc.
