Wow! 12 lbs a month is great! My Dr said to expect 10lbs a month. If Whey bothers you, have you tried soy protein powder? I don't like the texture as much, but it has lots of protein and you can get it in flavors or plane. I make a hot chai tea with1cup 1% milk, one oz of soy protein isolate powder, a decaf teabag, stevia, and spices... heat...but not TOO hot or the soy gets lumpy (32grams protein). Do you log your calories and protein? I use fitday.com. It helps me keep on top of whats going in. I do not have the sleeve yet, but coming up soon! Im sure i will have challenges just like you, get back on that wagon, your doing great! Keep checking in here, I'm sure I will need your support in January!

Tracking daily food intake
feedyoureye replied to Kimmes's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Good for you getting ready like this! My surgery is in Jan also, on the 18th. I have been using Fitday on and off for years... its the only one I have ever used, so I can't say if its better than the others.... One bit of advice my nutritionist told me that I never did before was to count only high grade protein. Only protein in meat, milk products and whey, soy and soy products, beans and eggs. I guess the rest of the protein that shows up on the counter is lacking amino acids and/or digestibility. So bread, and other foods that have quite a bit of protein don't count towards the count. boo hoo, but thats what she said. So I do a quick count in my head to make sure I am on track with the high quality proteins before dinner so I can still catch up if I need to. That being said, Fitday says that I can eat 3000 calories to stay the same weight... and that is not true. I am eating around 1800 now to stay the same. I exercise 4 days a week, and weigh 245lbs...so go figure THAT one! I am trying the drinking thing, and the protein first thing, to get my head around it too. Good luck January! -

I don't mind going to goodwill, so I will use that. I also have some smaller sizes in a bag in the closet that I will mine for stuff... I was thinking some drawstring pants and skirts will get me through a few sizes...have any smaller sisters or cousins you can borrow from?

Doctor is at a Loss to Explain
feedyoureye replied to onikenbai's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Oh my gosh! That sounds terrible. I'm so sorry you have been suffering for so long! I am still waiting for my surgery in January, but everything I read here gives me a tremendous amount of hope that the sleeve will make it possible to lose weight and keep it off. If you need to do this to save your sight, then I say go for it! By the way, people through the ages have lost their stomachs for different reasons and lived full lives. What is CSF? -
You stomach is swollen, and you will slowly be able to put more into it. You must stay hydrated though. Keep after that water and other liquids! This will make you sick even more than not enough proteins....Try the clear protein liquids, Isopure in the bottle has been recommended to me... After your stomach calms down and heals, you will be able to eat more.

Vertical band in high bmi patients
feedyoureye replied to Billy363627's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Vertical band? Do you mean vertical sleeve? If its vertical sleeve, it seems to work the very best on lower BMIs, but some folks here with high BMIs have done very well using the sleeve as a stand alone surgery. My Doc also said if you need to lose more you can revise to the Doadinol switch. (Heck! I know thats spelled wrong... can't think how to spell it right...) -
My insurance plan (with WHA) has a high deductible, ($2500 a year) and a maximum out of pocket ($5000 a year) Im pretty sure I have to pay $500 a day for the hospital too... Im planing on having to come up with around $3500. Every plan is different... some WHA plans have complete coverage of the surgery. I hope I'm in the hospital only one day! Call your insurance company and ask....

5 Weeks post op and no weight loss
feedyoureye replied to Naliliscious's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Welcome to the site. Lots of support here. My Nut says we will average losing 10 lbs a month. You are doing very well so far! 18 lbs is certainly not "no weight loss". Slow downs and stalls are normal. Follow the rules given to you by your Nut. and you will get to your goal. Try not to talk mean to yourself... You are well on your way already, relax and enjoy the ride. -
Congratulations!

VSG Medically Necessary?
feedyoureye replied to Nillawaferz's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
If you have been ordered to take aspirin or NSIADs by a Dr. thats one thing. Thats what got my Dr to do a sleeve rather than an RNY (besides the fact that I wouldn't have an RNY done...) My cardiologist wants me to take an aspirin every day... and needed to write a release for me to get the surgery done with that info in it. -
Over 60 and having the sleeve
feedyoureye replied to ginnylee's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I read in some medical report in the last month that studies WLS on older patients (over 60). It challenged the belief that the older you are the more risks there are for complications... The study says that is not so. WLS in older patients have only minimally higher negative side effects... and all the positive side effects of younger patients. Hopefully Insurance companies and Drs. will take this into account when assessing older patients for surgery. The old standards are one reason I jumped into the process of applying for WLS before I was 60, didn't want to get caught in any old top age cut off! here is that study: http://www.medpagetoday.com/MeetingCoverage/ASMBS/14887 -
Congratulations! You are in the home stretch. Menopause kicked my a$$ as well. Watch out, my Dr. said sometimes women in menopause pop out and can get pregnant after surgery! You are going to love your new life, almost there!

Hello! Perhaps you should gain 50 more pounds and then lose them and THEN you won't be a loser? ... Everyone has their number, and yours was lower than some, and your LUCKY because of that, not a loser because of that. You deserve to have health and happiness as much as the next guy/gal on this forum, and eating candy this weekend or being a 'lightweight' does not void that. Enjoy that candy, bag it up for grandma and give her a big kiss when you drop it off. I can't wait till I'm as close to goal as you are! -
THe one your surgeon recommends looks the best, although i gotta say the "cooke bits" in the first one look yummy....but not really on track! That first one has a lot of protein...

I had one a few weeks ago, and it was easy. I remember them starting the camera down the throat, but I think I must have liked the drugs because it was pleasant. Just relax. The anesthesiologist said to me "picture your favorite place..." I was out like a light.
