  1. I'm getting it done on the 18th as well. My insurance has a high deductible, $2500 and the hospital is $500 a day, so hope there are no complications that keep me in longer than that. Good luck to us both!

You don't need to lose weight...

Oh my gosh! That is funny, stupid and such a silly thing to say all at the same time! She really didn't know how to make much sense of her feelings and thoughts very well did she? I think you need to make a card for her with a giant head collaged onto a skinny body...then write on it: "After beautiful Coops lost her amazing amount of weight, she got a REALLY big head bout it. From then on, no one that saw her would dare and lose an ounce for fear of developing massive head syndrome" Send it on over to her for a laugh. I'm sorry, I'm just as silly as her, bur Really!

32 of the Yummiest Grams of Protein in One Sitting!

I'm a little worried here... I am a vegetarian, and everything I can eat has some carbs. Some Dairy and eggs are not too bad, but I can't live on those. I get surgerized in a week, and keeping my fingers crossed! I did lose some weight on vegetarian South Beach, and the low glycemic index choices did lower my hunger substantially... so I'm hoping that low/medium glycemic index carbs will be ok for losing weight.... Right now at 1600 calories, my carbs are over 170 a day. I'm sure it will be less when I eat much less....

    At work today....

Thin, I gotta tell you, I love this group and they come through for me everyday...they are not "sizest"... I am as likely as any of them to come up with a twisted comment...Its a bit of a high stress job, and humor gets us all through at times. I'm glad we could joke around, they would never be truly nasty and try to make me feel bad about anything. Perhaps our "bonding" moments would not be appreciated by all, but I wouldn't have it any other way. Thanks for the concern... if it was another group with a history of meanness and prejudice, I might feel differently...

    At work today....

I love the folks I work with, they are there for me when I need them, but don't mind being totally un PC and letting me be the butt of a joke. They are all artists, and social workers too... a little bit whacked. I was telling them today that I am almost at my surgery day early next week. One all asked me to explain what I was having done, and I told her about the incisions, and how the laprascope(sp) works, and the machine that cuts/staples and cauterizes the stomach... and how much they are cutting off... when another co worker asked me what they will do with the stomach that they cut off, and everyone gave suggestions... my boss said I should keep it and make art out of it, then suggested I make dog chews for my little dog, someone else I should make something out of Perhaps a nice lamp, it, l suggested a coin purse would be nice... then someone said perhaps a dog toy.... like a little football or something... we were laughing SO hard after work! I said, I've got to laugh about it now, because next week I'll pop a stitch if I laugh like this! They are all really nice people, and humor is a great ice breaker for difficult subjects.

    OMG help!

So sorry you are going through this now... not a great time to feel stressed about money. I still don't know for sure how much my surgery will be... hope its not a surprise like yours!
  7. I'm laughing VERY hard right now.... I guess everyone wants to think they made the only right and best decision, after rerouting their guts and/or snipping off their tummies! Can't we all just get along? No need to be a biznatche though! (Tiff, I just had to use that name...love it!)

    I've been a bad boy

You know the answer to this one don't you? If you think this is going to be an ongoing behavior, you might want to talk to a councilor or your Dr. to work on some more 'courage'. It might not be bad to ask for support from the gal in question... if she is going to be in your life, you want it to be a healthy life, yes?

    Strange question: girlie parts

I believe its called a "apron" and insurance companies will sometimes pay to have it removed if it causes problems such as infections in the crease and such.I think its called a Pannectomy?

    Real Meals protein powder

    Good point!

    Real Meals protein powder

11 (60 gm protein) servings for $37 plus $12-15 shipping to my place in CA... pretty steep.... around $4+ a serving. I guess it might be worth it if you could get it down for the first week and a half when its nearly impossible to get enough protein.... it says a full serving goes in a cup of milk or Water, a half serving goes in a half glass of milk or water. I wonder how thick it would be?

  13. Hi, I don't know about fiber supplements, but I was really having problems with Constipation, and my Dr told me that taking D Vitamins can do that to you. I did a little research and found out that Magnesium can help when taken with the D, starting with 300mg a day. I started taking them and about 4 days later started to be more regular. Hurray! This was after three weeks of difficulties...so to speak....
  14. Now that really IS an NSV!

Serious doubts after visit with surgeon (long)

If your not sure, then its OK to wait for a while. Do some research, in a year or two there will be more information on the sleeve. Perhaps you will feel better about it then, or not. You have your insurance now, just keep it up, so you can have the surgery in the future if you decide to. I am 57, and don't want to wait any longer for weight loss. I am willing to be a bit of a Guinea pig with the sleeve... even though there is 5 years of study, and many more years of examples of people who have lost parts of their stomachs and lived excellent lives for many years without them in my favor. Heck, I even think there will be some miracle cure some day for obesity... but I'm not willing to wait around any longer for it. Good luck with whatever decision you make, don't get yourself all stressed out, don't forget to relax and enjoy your life!
  19. If its like mine, you go back to your tickerfactory address thats above your ticker, put in your password and change your info and save. That should do it. You don't have to recopy your code or anything.

    Dreading the Scale

Many people let themselves get pushed around by the numbers... including me, but after all, they are just numbers and can simply mean something scientific to us... it doesn't have to be personal. You are not a better or worse person depending on the number. You are not a success or failure dependent on a number! Just stick to the plan your Dr. gives you and use the scale to show you what direction you are heading in...don't weigh too often or the direction will not be as clear or accurate in the long run.
  21. Hi "Matilda" Welcome to the forum!

  22. Something nagging me. I am a vegetarian, I eat eggs and dairy too. There are quite a few Protein sources I use in my diet. Gluten, soy, milk/whey products, nuts, Beans, eggs….I am getting the sleeve in two weeks. My concerns are: -That I may become lactose intolerant….or not be able to eat eggs… and reduce my choices by a bunch. -Many of these choices are high in carbs. I hope I will have success in losing all my over weight, even though my carbs will probably be higher then some of yours. -Its always easier to eat meat when you eat out to get protein. If I can't eat dairy or eggs…..it will be impossible much of the time to find enough protein. I figure I can have a Protein Drink before going out… just fussing here….where there is a will there is a way…I REALLY do not want to go back to eating meat because my sleeve is fussy….

Thanks guys, I'm sure I will figure out something if I need to. Hopefully the carbs won't get me down either...Cheers, K

    WLS magazine?

http://www.obesityhelp.com/magazine/ Theres this one too... I have not tried ether one...
  25. Until now i have skipped over this post because I don't get my sleeve for two weeks... then I read it today and it is so ME in the past. I bet it will be me on the sleeve too. Last time I belonged to WW I lost 20 lbs... in two years! I too lose super slowly on diets and then stall out for weeks... and quit. The up side is I seem to gain it all back slowly when I lose it slowly. The times I was on kooky fasts and unsustainable sh*t like that, and lost weight fast, I gained it back fast too. I am a volume eater, so I hope the sleeve will help me to stay on track that way. I have never had problems with my skin when losing weight fast, I am older now so who knows, but I hope this is an upside to losing slowly. Another upside to losing slowly? You gals are great, and we have found each other here because we are s-l-o-w losers!
