The good thing about being a slow loser
feedyoureye replied to coops's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
OK, I have a lame ass sounding "cure" for Water weight... It really works for me... eat cucumbers three days in a row. I mean as a salad or to dip in hummus or something. Even grind them up with tomatoes for Gazpacho. Don't add salt. Maybe have them as between meal Snacks. See if you drop a lb or two. Just an idea that works for me when I'm really stuck for a while. -
I would think some fruit is good for you. My Dr did say take care with the acid fruits and vegs early out. And watch the fiber in citrus too... but you have got to be far enough out to have some fruit. My doc doesn't even ask us to count carbs, just protein first. veg and fruit second, carbs third.

Do you take this for atrial fib? I take Metoprolol for arial fib, and the doc said I will probably have to stay on it unless my BP gets too low.

Maybe smaller bites? Or more moisture/sauce or chopped finer?

Thanks for taking the time to write all that down. I am going in to get my sleeve in 3 more days, so this really calms me down, thanks! -

32 of the Yummiest Grams of Protein in One Sitting!
feedyoureye replied to armstrong1003's topic in Food and Nutrition
Thanks for the reply Jane! I have a lot of different Protein sources, just worried about anything that might keep his program from working...you understand. It just nice to know there is someone out there doing 98% vegetarian diet and losing successfully! Thanks again for the suggestions too... -
Check out Magnesium on the net, I read start out with 300 for a while. Thats the normal minimum recommended dose. After taking it with my calcium for about 5 days it kicked in and has been smooth sailing every since!

feedyoureye replied to Smillzee's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Make sure your drinking enough water. -
Vit D can make you constipated too, if so take your magnesium at the same time to counteract. I was 14 as well, taken one course of 50,000 units a week, test went up to 30 (the lowest in the normal range 30-100) I started to take 5,000 a day and my test is up to 43..... getting there.....Vit D is supposed to help joint pain too...

Band or sleeve...how do you decide?
feedyoureye replied to apw0's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
My Dr will not install the band into people any more. Just too many problems. He does say the sleeve takes more control to use than RNY... but like you, no way am I getting RNY. -
So cool! And a great lesson, If all of us can do that, we will not only lose the weight, we will keep it off!

Is my doctor crazy?!
feedyoureye replied to Lila21's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Wow! So many ways to do things. My doc said, no weight goals, don't attach success to numbers... look for reduction in co-morbidities as your signs of success, don't start setting yourself up for failure based on numbers... -
Would like some feedback. . .
feedyoureye replied to PamelaAM's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My nut said three meals, two snacks. I'm really happy about this. Perhaps its a mindset, some folks just want to participate in the classic American three sit down meals a day routine. Even if I'm not hungry, having planned snacks really help me keep on track instead of grabbing junk because I find myself starving. -
8 month "stall" & disgusted with myself

Neither what you eat or a number on the scale makes you horrible. Don't forget that! -
Being told I will fail with VSG
feedyoureye replied to hcwiu's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
My Dr has stressed to me that you CAN stretch the sleeve and you MUST change your eating habits or you will gain weight. If you rely on the great restriction of the sleeve early on, and not change your mindset... you may gain weight later when the sleeve stretches and its easier to eat around the sleeve. I think this is practical advice. He told me that the sleeve needs more head work from the patient than RNY... He said everyone loses weight on the sleeve, but keeping it off is the problem. And work on changing old habits is the key to keeping it off. Im going to go to the councilor and group meeting as well as come here after the sleeve... I REALLY don't want to be one of the people who gains it back... -
I had a nice talk with my surgeon yesterday. He will not give a weight goal, and encourages his patients to not set a weight goal. He said that numbers are a trap... people set themselves up for feeling like they are a failure if they land 5 or more pounds from the number they made up. He said look at your health goals first. Did you succeed in reaching them? Your body will find its weight, if you follow the Drs orders, you will get where your body wants to be. He said with the inability of many people to see how they look after they lose weight, its even more crazy, others many see you as slim and just fine...as we see ourselves as still fat. That is very sensible, and really, that is what he is doing the surgery for and insurance is paying for....but he is SO not vain!

Pre-surgery help for post-op nausea
feedyoureye replied to Deedle Dee's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My Doc just told me that 20% of his patients have nausea. Its the most common side effect problem patients can have... some only one day, some for months. That seems like a good idea! -

I should've never left the VSG forum....DS people scare me :(
feedyoureye replied to brandynd's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I went for my pre-op surgeons visit today. My surgeon, who is the head of the bariatric dept. of a teaching and research university, has been doing it for many years...told me today that his thought so far is that the sleeved person is the most likely to have weight re-gain in their future (I believe he meant compared to RNY). He also said that he believed that from his perspective, you could be a person that did not gain your weight back with the sleeve, but it would take more work from your side (not the sleeves side) to do so. That RNY weight loss is easier to keep off in the long run. He also said that he knows that there is not enough time elapsed to see how it will go for the sleeve yet, but that is his guess. He also said that the size of your bougie does not make a big difference, eating habits are the biggest part of being successful, and the WHOLE stomach is pretty stretchy. He said it is important to change habits, or when the restriction reduces, the old habits will still be there and up goes the weight. He said not all people will re-gain, but the ones that are always looking for excuses as to why the sleeve is not working properly, is the wrong size, are looking in the wrong place for success. He also said that RNY patients have similar problems, blaming the size of their stomas, and such instead of looking at their eating and exercise habits. To his credit, he will not put the band on anyone anymore. Just too many problems in their future. I told him about this site, hope he checks it out! He does 5 year or longer followup on his patients. I just signed up for a research project tracking my sleeve into the future. -
She sounds like a good pal, do it! It will be a fun art project too....

I almost see where I might feel like I am a fat person "passing for thin." after I lose weight. Anyone here feel that way? You may be thin, but don't feel like a "real" thin person? Whatever that is! The times I have lost weight in the past, I thought "I have it now, I can stay this way at last...I have found the trick" Then I would lose the trick and gain back the weight. So many overweight people have lost weight for a while, but the elusive 4% that keep it off with diet and exercise… or the few that lose weight taking thyroid meds or something like that… its really such a small amount of us that have been able to lose it and keep it off … until surgery. Surgery is the only time most of us have had to really sit in the thin body for a while. Do you ever feel like you are thin? or is there a little voice whispering " this wont' last" "the inside doesn't match the outside" or something like that. I am obese now. I have not gotten surgery yet. I will talk about that sooner or later I'm sure. But I cant really say I feel like I'm a fat person. I just feel like ME… and ME isn't quite as fat as I think I look like in the mirror. I look in the mirror sideways and cant 'believe that its me blobing out that way. I look at photos of me from the 70's when I weighed 145lbs and thought I was fat. Boy oh boy. I had NO ass and I thought I was fat. How can I expect to see my self as I really am with that kind of distortion!
