I'll be honest here...I am not taking my vitamins
feedyoureye replied to Brian66's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
I know I resist taking any kind of pills, but I guess that part of my life is over! You do not want to find out you are low on something after the fact... it can mean nerve damage or brittle bones.... When I found out I was low on D3 and B12, I started taking them and a host of low grade problems got better pretty fast. Just go out and buy all the danged things and get them into your plan. Your building a new you! -
4 weeks post-op and having issues with soft foods
feedyoureye replied to JanettRN's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hopefully someone with more experience will answer this... I think you might want to contact your surgery nurse or office, this sound like it could be a stricture to me... Good luck with that! -
Good luck with your journey, its getting close, time will fly!

Chike makes in my opinion a very good banana and also strawberry Meal Replacement powder. It is rather thick and very creamy... I use soy milk to add a little more Protein. Their cholcolate is really good too, I just ordered banana and a chocolate, thought mixing them would be yummy. Anyway if your tired of chocolate, I would recommend that product. They will send you 5 full sample packets of their product just for shipping and handling....$6.95 I think. http://www.chikenutrition.com/free-sample.html

Everyone Says Something Different!

The people who enter and win hotdog eating contests dip the buns in and drink water between every bite. Its how they get as much food in as they do. You can physically eat more food when you drink at the same time...don't know the physics, maybe it slides past the pylorus faster/better. This seems like as good a reason to slow the drinking with meals as any. I think if you remain conscious during eating, you wont have a problem, knowing me, if Im eating unconsciously, then I might well eat more of what Im eating with water. Thats my guess.... My nut said 5 minutes before, 30 minutes after. She said water exits the stomach very quickly.<div><br></div><div>hot dog eating champ:</div><div>Kobayashi uses what he calls the "Solomon method" in which he separates the frankfurter from the buns, breaks the dog in half, puts the two pieces in his mouth simultaneously, dips teh buns in water, 7up or sprite and eats them next. This is done to cut down on chewing time.</div><div><br></div><div><img src="http://www.bariatricpal.com/public/style_emoticons/default/blink.gif" alt="" class="bbc_emoticon"></div> -
Just keep in mind most protein shots are not the best type of protein. You need a min of 60 gms if you can get it in. I would go ahead and have some vegs and fruits, just add some ground meats or beans or other whey isolate based protein too to top up your numbers. Cheers and enjoy!

Gained 3lbs in 2 days.

It sound like you had a really great time at the party ! And a little dove bar is one of the pleasures of eating. You are back on the non birthday celebration track, and it will come off. Don't let this ruin your fantastic celebration, food and all. Its just when people get into the habit of eating like this day in and day out that they get into long term trouble. If you can kick the habit till the next celebration, you will be fine. -

I have a good friend who around 17 years ago was in an auto accident where she was extremely injured. Lots of internal injuries. When I started talking to her about me getting the sleeve, she told me that a bunch of her stomach was removed during surgery after her accident. She said that she lost lots of weight after surgery, but no one ever talked to her about it, or clued her into the why she lost weight or anything. She just figured it was the accident somehow. For many years she kept the weight off. She was/is a quad in a wheelchair, but worked out at the gym, ate well and was over all active. She got married to a guy that is a fantastic cook, she became more sedentary and ate more and gained weight. For a while she just ate a tiny amount of food each day, cheese, cold cuts, olives and a few fresh veggies, and did manage to lose quite a bit of weight. I was always worried about her eating so little, but after I found out about her stomach removal, it made more sense. So she didn't have the sleeve for weight loss, but something similar, that resulted in weight loss, then after eating lots of rich and carb loaded foods gained the weight back, (and exercising less too) I think if she would have known more about having a smaller stomach, and been prepared, she would have kept the weight off. But she was never informed. I am trying to encouraging her to use her sleeve as a tool again... I don't know how big her stomach is, or if it might have stretched, but she might be successful again. And more exercise! Her example is more complex because of all the drugs shes on and such.

Lots of Hunger!
feedyoureye replied to karrieremmer's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
be carefull about all the refined carbs in bread. It can also get stuck for some people. I would stick with higher Protein food, and just stay away from unrefined carbs for a long while more. Carbs make some people hungry too... protein wont do that. -

We are all a work in progress. I hear time after time here, if something doesn't agree with your tummy, then don't eat it for a few days or week, then try again. What happened didn't sound violent or anything. Just a tummy saying "no way, not now" You are just getting to know your signals, and I guess this was one of them. You will be fine. -
pro's / con's to being honest about having surgery
feedyoureye replied to newmefeb8's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So true! People I have explained the surgery to still think Im getting the lap band or bypass. They don't know. I do know they care about my health, and thats enough. My mom apparently started telling my cousins about my surgery last week. Words out now! Im getting emails wanting to know all the details. I don't mind telling them. They might want to get help too! Best of luck with what ever decision you make. -

To sleeve or not to Sleeve.... actually I think i've made my mind

When I was younger I had a normal BMI (before BMIs were "in") around 20-30 years ago, and I thought I was fat. I was constantly dieting from the age of 9. Slowly, finally I got fat for real. I'm hoping this time I can enjoy my normal BMI, and not think I am still fat! That would be a great NSV! -
Patient for 13 years
feedyoureye replied to platinumbells's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
adema is water, perhaps your "slow" weight loss is water weight. I think 16 is good. Also, throwing up is not normal. You might want to look closer at that, even see a doc. Try eating slower and smaller bites, and don't overtax your system with chunky food. -
It has been so easy to eat that type of food and just move on without accountability. I would probably just scream if I really could look back and see how I loaded up my body some days....(eating out mostly.....)

The first few days my mouth tasted like ashes, and I could not tolerate sweets. I can now tolerate sweets, but less so than before. My mouth sometimes tastes like old sock now... perhaps from ketosis. I am also taking actigaul, which is a bitter medicine, three times a day with meals, so this is not helping. I can tell that my slightly altered taste buds will be ok, they are still changing and it seems in the direction of enjoying my food taste more... I just hope I never get that addictive craving I MUST have that taste in my mouth thing again... Its just not worth it. I have been perusing "food porn" cooking sites, and checking out and saving recipes that look like they will work well and taste good when I can eat the ingredients and texture in the future... I do get a little worked up while doing this, but not out of bounds, just arming myself with some good tasty choices... who knows how they will really taste to me when I get to them....

Never is a long time. Start saving a little each month. Even a little bit to keep the dream alive. Your insurance may change, you may get a new job with different insurance, you may save the money to go to Mexico or another surgeon in the future, Never say Never!

I'm in the second week and am at around 60... which is pretty low for a vegetarian I think. Im pretty sure Im in Ketosis, my mouth feels like an ild sock. My best success losing weight before surgery (on a diet that is) is consuming low glycemic index carbs, like South Beach. Im hoping that will work for me now too, in less quantities and a closer eye on the protein which I never really did before.
