How long do you carry on with protein shakes for?
feedyoureye replied to faithstar's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My Doc and Nut say to use Protein drinks as long as you need to. I try to get in as much protein from real food, but the drinks really help me keep the grams up where I need them, and also offer a meal when nothing else is available. -
In California, GNCs are located inside Rite Aid stores, that are all over the place. They have ready to drink and powder you can add to milk or Water. You can even get milk at RiteAid stores. Also you might look up Vitamin shoppe. They also have many choices and can be found in many malls. Have fun at the Oscars! Put your hotel address here and find out the closest location. http://www.riteaid.com/stores/locator/

PBing or Vomitting after sleeve?
feedyoureye replied to Deedle Dee's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
TMI coming your way! Lucky for me when I slime (so far) I don't puke, I just cant swallow anything else, and my mouth fills up with thicker than saliva "slime" that I spit out. After a few spits, usually the sensation goes away... but can't eat anything for a while... The last time this happened, I only had one spoon of cream of broccoli soup... and started sliming... so it didn't take much or even eating fast... the soup did taste horrible....what the sleeve wants to do, the sleeve does.... -
How much experience should your surgeon have???
feedyoureye replied to OilSooner's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
When I was researching the sleeve, I found out that "to preform RNY a surgeon needs to be a skilled expert in doing RNY." To do the sleeve, s/he need to be a very skilled surgeon. RNY has staple lines too... Not to say you should leave your surgery in the hands of a hack... just do some research and find out how much experience he has. Im sure he must have had experience as a fellow on a team before coming to your facility. You can look him/her up on line and poke around, maybe make some calls to find out where s/he stands in his /her community. I'm sure s/he wouldn't have been hired to perform this surgery as their stand alone Doc without a track record of some kind! -

welcome and congratulations! thanks for posting, and I look forward to your story and expertise. -
sip sip sip, you do not want to go on an IV! I don't know about your medical plan, but I have to pay $500 a day for the hospital. Suck it up and try some different fruit proteins, and you can count the water and protein at the same time. Nectar is not to bad. You can get samples for cheep. I have tried the cherry and the strawberry kiwi, not too bad. Add some ice and get the job done. In a few weeks you will have more choices and will be able to drink more. This is not a joke. You are doing it to take care of your self and your healing right now. Not enough water or protein will slow the healing and your body will take away from your muscles and heart if it cant find the protein in your food. Just do it. It will get better soon.

Lost weight but belly is the same?
feedyoureye replied to brazcan's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Great advice from NFJEF. Just take your time. Take measuring tape measures for the future. Sometimes you lose inches and not pounds. Many people have a stall in the first few weeks too, so consider yourself normal if this happens. Just eat well, drink your water and walk... it will all happen on your bodies own time. I didn't have that much swelling that I could tell, but my waist has gone down around an inch or two in the past 4 weeks. -
How much experience should your surgeon have???
feedyoureye replied to OilSooner's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have been told that if a Doc has a lot experience with RNY, that the sleeve is a piece of cake. Ask him directly how many sleeves he had done in the past. My surgeon had not done thousands, maybe even not hundreds, but he had done some and many many RNYs. He was actually teaching others how to do the surgery on me, with a robot! I trusted him because he was so familiar with surgery in general and bariatric surgery in particular. Just ask. I also asked his assistants, and they told me they had assisted him on at least 5 sleeves. He was great, I had a great experience. You can also ask him how many problems with the surgery he has seen. Usually the Docs are very up front with this info. -
Just another little piece of the puzzle for you gals from an older lady (57). I always thought I was fat in my 20s and 30s.. and I have to tell you, it is SO much harder to lose weight and keep it off as you get older. I would get the surgery now if I was you, while you are young and your metabolism is not all screwed up from years of dieting, and natural hormone changes and stuff... just saying.

Ummm insult or compliment
feedyoureye replied to thinoneday's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Would they give you a free membership and trainer? I don't think its an insult, It just sounds like he thought you would be good at it and be a good choice to represent Golds. I'm sure it could be a news worthy story if your went on and competed...Do what your heart says! -
Mine was neg also, It causes a low grade inflammation that can lead to ulcers and cancer...so they want to make sure its gone before surgery.

I would say reduce the risk and shake the bottle first, let out the air and have a couple sips after the water has gone a little more flat. I don't understand it, but the Doctors almost all say stay away from the bubbles... Some even say it is the difference between success and ultimate failure...

Food tolerances many months post op
feedyoureye replied to MissyG's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
..actually, it is better not to eat stringy things with the sleeve either (fresh coconut comes to mind)... they can stay in the stomach, and form a ball that cant pass and needs to be removed by surgery.... -
Difficult IV starts anyone?
feedyoureye replied to My Big Day 3/15/2011's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
One lab persone I went to said to avoid being dehydrated when you go in. My arms were covered with bruises after all was said and done... oh well, mostly gone now! I had one night nurse draw blood with a bunch of difficulties, then later someone else came in to redo because the blood she drew was curdled! I was later told it was because the size of the needle and the amount of pull on the blood sometimes breaks the blood cells.... I'm pretty over getting blood drawn and IVs put in for now anyway...
