protein that tastes good
feedyoureye replied to ireland's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The best ones I have tried are the 4ever-fit fruit flavors... better than Nectar in my opinion. http://www.4everfit.com/protein-powder/isolates-1/fruit-blast-isolate.html love the mango! -
Addicted to peanut butter... How bad is this?
feedyoureye replied to sassygirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just found something called "peanut flour" . It is no sugar or salt and mostly is sold with most of the fat removed. It also comes in dark and light roast. You can bake with it or add it to smothies and such. The darker roast is supposed to have a stronger flavor. I ordered mine from netrition.com and it has 16 gms Protein per 1/4 cup! It is also gluten free. http://www6.netrition.com/protein_plus_peanut_flour.html shipping is a flat $4.99, so I ordered three pounds to keep the cost down. -

I just ordered some. I wish they made it without sugar and salt! But the stats are still pretty good.... -

One Month Since Surgery
feedyoureye replied to Amanda131's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Although my appetite is much less than before, I still do get hungry. Last night dinner was running late, I was starving, went home and made a salad. Thought, "this looks like a giant salad to me now", but it was about 1/6th the size of the old salad bowl, I dug in and couldn't finish it. Its a miracle really. When i go out to eat, and see what everyone is eating, it all looks GIANT to me. I can think "thats how I used to eat" but my brain has made some kind of shift, I remember grabbing and eating three donuts, but now, if they were sitting in front of me, If I was even willing to "go there", I could have maybe one bite and gladly call it quits. I sure hope I can keep this up well into the future... I know this is the "honeymoon", but if I can even keep 50% of this body/mindset, I have hope I can lose and keep the weight off. -
I think this is one for the Doc.

protein that tastes good
feedyoureye replied to ireland's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Everyones taste buds are different... I hated sweet right after surgery... but found Chike banana was good made with ff milk or even water... you can get samples too... http://www.chikenutrition.com/free-sample.html 4everfit makes a great fruity mango flavor you make with water, I drink it like juice in the AM. http://www.4everfit.com/protein-powder/isolates-1/fruit-blast-isolate/fruit-blast-isolate-single-serving-30g-packet-tropical-mango.html I don't use bars, kinda high calorie for the protein, and a little pricy for my budget. -

Having a hard time finding hood tasting calcium..
feedyoureye replied to Smof4's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
if you are on a ppi, you have very little acid in the stomach, most calciums need acid to be absorbed... except citrate. -
how does the vsg resolve....
feedyoureye replied to healthysoon's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You need to look up the statistics. VSG is not the best option for reducing diabetes.. I think it is somewhere around 50%. RNY and DS have better resolve rates. Cutting the duodenum seems to have some miracle attached to it.... There is some movement for getting these surgeries approved for people who have diabetes and are not overweight. Diabetes 2 only. http://www.ncbi.nlm....pubmed/21431992 on the other hand: http://www.medpageto...age/ASMBS/14874 Just look around at these sites, do a search and you will find all kinds of studies... I would research yourself a little, so you can make the best case to dad. -

My nut insisted on Citrate. Here is the one I buy/take: http://www.bariatricchoice.com/bariatric-advantage-bariatric-chewable-calcium-270ct.html -

Calcium citrate chewables are so expensive! I could spend $15 every two weeks to get in enough. I just don't like taking the non chewable horse pills, and have even tried the minis, yuck. They sit in my stomach like a clutch of rocks....I am now using Bariatric advantage chewable tabs, they come in wild cherry, mint, cinnamon and chocolate. I am getting them in the large bottle, its a much better deal. Each tab is 500 mgs and I don't mind the taste, however they are very powdery and I would say exhale while eating or the dust gets in your lungs! I use cherry. Getting in 1000 a day adds up to about $12 a month. I think there are about 270 tabs in a bottle if I remember correctly.... -
Getting the right fit is a pain sometimes! You sound like you are doing great though. You might need to find a local taylor to take in the waist on your pants to get a better fit... Don't be turned off by the number, it sounds like you are losing great! Just keep up the good work and your body will find its own unique shape as it changes. Sounds like you just might be a classic "hourglass"! I on the other hand, I do not have a waist. oh well!

Addicted to peanut butter... How bad is this?
feedyoureye replied to sassygirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I love it too, I just got some almond butter, and that is yummy. My take is, sometimes I can "afford" it, and sometimes I can't. When I choose to eat it, I try and measure it out (eyeballs are almost always wrong) and log the calories. It is a big chunk of calories for the protein content, but I do love it and try to fit it in sometimes. Nut oils are not to bad to get into the diet, but raw nuts are better yet... walnuts are the most beneficial for antioxidants. -
I have never heard of a difference between bougies sized for men or woman.... My doc said that the range is 32-60 so a 40 would still be on the small size. How it is stitched or stapled has something to do with the size too...and if it is cut loose or tight..... Im a woman, 36 cut loose, then overstitched is what I was told I was getting...He also cuts loose at the pylorus end, saying it avoids problems...(?)

The Official What You Will Need For Your Upcoming Weightloss Surgery Thread!
feedyoureye replied to LilMissDiva Irene's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
When I came out of surgery my lips were peeling, and dry, with some raw nicks. I couldn't drink anything for most of a day and a half, just use "sponge pops". When I was under, they put the bougie and breathing tube down the hatch, the surgery was 3 1/2 hours, so the lips got pretty banged up and dried out. I even signed a sheet staying that I understood that I might wake up with cuts or other injuries in.on my mouth...even chipped teeth! Its the anastesia(sp) mostly I think.... -

Shining the light on that "lover" sometimes makes her look a little bit worse than when the lights are out! Write down everything, with calories and carbs... it makes those choices look a little bit less delicious. When I'm in a mini binge, I HATE to write stuff down. -

Major Loss of Appetite!!!
feedyoureye replied to My Big Day 3/15/2011's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My appetite s less than before surgery, however I wish it was less than it is now... Kind of hungry every two hours or so... Count yourself as a lucky one, you will feel better, you will learn to eat for the nourishment and that will make it TONS easier to stay on the plan! This is a good thing even if it doesn't seem like it right now....Congrats on the 24 lbs in two weeks too, that is fantastic! -
Don't quit without talking to your doc! Sometimes your heart will flip out if your stop your meds cold turkey!

Long term VSG Diet
feedyoureye replied to Can'tweight's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Coops, My nut sais 6-800 a day during the middle part of losing, then up to 1000 later on.... she allows 3 meals and two Snacks. I'm not sure whats best... I'm just going along and seeing how it goes. I was eating between 350-500 and was on a loooong stall, upped it a little and started losing, but I don't really know why. -
..I also had to get a letter from my cardiologist approving my surgery decision....

Now 218lbs. What can I expect?
feedyoureye replied to BeachWithMyBabies's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
6 month diet? Not sure what your talking about... you mean the diet stages after surgery? I went back to the gym after 6 weeks, and have been doing pretty well there, not to much catching up to do.. I did walk for the first 6 weeks and this helped me from losing any muscle that I had built up in my dance classes. Also, Dr Ali insists on 6 weeks off before you can go back to the harder workout using abs and such... OR go back to work... I was ready to go back at 4... but my work would not allow me to be there without the Drs full approval to lift more than 10 pounds! (I teach in an arts program too...) -
I asked my pcp to recommend me to a WLS Dr, and she did. She has been great!
