feedyoureye replied to Oregondaisy's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I flew to Los Angeles for a meeting today, it was raining a little bit early on, but dry when I came home tonight. So far so good! I am taking a mini vacation for the next three days in Northern Cali... suposed to be raining most of the time so we shall see... thanks for the concern Georgia! -

Thats crazy. Even my sh*t job offers more than that. I have 6 weeks of sick saved up.... Others at work use them for hangover monday and such...I figure if I am REALLY sick, I want to be able to take the time off. 3 days is rediculous... and right now it seems like everyone is sick! Hope you feel better soon... -
Fast day. So far so good. I am going to LA on Saturday, and then 3 days of fieldtrip for bird wtching... I will really have to watch it there... perhaps pack some safe snacks. Monday/fast day I will be on the road....

Man, must be a bad moon rising! Im feeling it too, but trying to get things done, so I feel like Im at least getting things done. Found my new car with a tack in the side of one of the tires today... letting air out... I have all wheel drive and may have to replace all 4 tires when one needs to be replaced. Thats around $700+. I have $1000 saved to my name. Other things are going OK, weight is not really one of them, but I went and bought 4 pairs of cute pants, one sie up, and at least I am not reminded about my wieght gain by the tight fit of my pants. Boo! -
Just keep in mind to maintain, you will have to continue what you are doing now to a degree... like fasting for one day a week....
-
I am floundering.... just went out and bought new pants.... the next size up like admiting defeat, but the "hangover" had to go. Hopefully its just a temp setback. I am carbing like crazy. Husband is leaving town in a two weeks, for 5 weeks... I am planing on a huge refer clean out and no temptations in the house month then.... until then, keep going after the fast days and such. BOO! I am still resisiting "dieting" I really don't want to do something to lose that I can't keep doing more or less after the loss....
-
I am having the same experience Michigan, and as far as my fast on Ths... it lasted around 2 hours, then all hell broke loose.... I came in around the same as a regular feast day(1200 cals). Did exercise though.... gained 1 1/2 pound (within that same bounce I have been doing for a month now...)

Eff'n Well said! I can still fit into my skinny jeans, but the spare tire is not pretty. I can reallys see the regain sitting on the middle. Blub. I don't want to protes too much, its not 30 and I have been there too... but it is just such a pain in the ass. -

Mohammed Ali, yep! He is the Robotics Instructer at my local Teaching Univerity as well as the head of Bariatrics. He used a Rock'em Sock'em Robot for my surgery.... another thing of interest. When I was going in for the Surgeons evaluation for this surgery, he asked me if I would be happy with a 50 pound loss, that was his estimation of my final weight loss. I said yes, but would love to lose more and he said "some people do, maybe you will be one of them" So at 80 pounds down (goal is 87-90) Im still a big winner by his estimation. -

Cowgirl, sorry about your knee. My knee spurs have not been too bad for a while... but I know its just one too many spins away... I really have to watch it. The Tylonol and ice pac really helps when it does flair. I wondered if anyone had read that 5:2 hunger link... I think its valuable info too. After so many failed "diet" experiences, shame and lower self worth have gotten me down too... and knowing that the weight gain problem is not just me failing. Being a (non)loser. Bests of luck to you, let us know how the 4:3 works for you. -

Thanks for writing this ladies. In many ways its similar you your stories. In a nut shell: 1 year. slow but steady with a butt load of stalls thrown in for good measure. did not quite get to goal. 2 year. Get to within 5 pounds of goal, then lost my way and gained to 22 pounds above goal. HUGE sad face! I took my eye off the ball... I started acting "normal" (eating without being accountable) I had a big eating vacation, to NOLA, I had an injury that kept me down for a few months, I had my mom in law visit for 10 weeks with happy hour every single day. 3 year. Tried several methods to get the 22 pounds off and reach goal. Georgia turned me onto the 5:2, and I managed to get to goal in year 3. Took up birdwatching, walking, kayaking and continued bellydancing... loving a more active lifestyle. Really enjoying dressing up. Half way through year 3, mom got sick, and a pile of not so nice things moved into my life, job, home, relationships, sick and old dear dog.. then mom died. I fell back off the wagon, and just hung on the best I could. My weight started going up again.... and emotional eating and the holidays collided. I finally managed to get the weight gain to slow down and stop.. I started getting the good habits back on track... put my fitbit back on, started using myfitnesspal every day, every meal, every bite.... and started fasting two days a week again regularly. Still a few things I could tighten up... but not to bad. Unfortunately, the behavior that got me through the last push goal do not seem to be working the same way they did the first time.. but I am only 7 pounds from the high end of my goal range, so really thats not TOO bad all in all. My skinny jeans are tight. My cholesterol is up. My Dr says lose the weight, but its going really slow. I know stalls all too well and its not putting me off my task, but its a chore. I consider myself a success. Peoples eyes still bug out when they see me... even after 4 years. I hope I can go the rest of my life this close to goal... I really don't know how easy that will be. If it gets much harder than it is now, I don't know if I can pull it off, but so far so good (without saying it was easy) I just had my 4 year surgeversary on Jan 19th 2015. -

Thanks Georgia, I think I spelled it wrong.... Do take your D! it is winter after all, and most people are deficient.... hugs to you and your loss... I made the memory picture segment for my moms "celebration" and it was happy and sad all at once. I must have watched it 50 times working on the editing... it was some kind of exercise for me... good and sad. Sheryl, I find it very interesting and grounding to watch myself in the Big MIrror during dnce class... lost of ladies smaller than I, but I have to say... I don't look bad for an old broad. I started taking the class before I ever had surgery, so I know how I felt then... GIANT. Not so much anymore. And I can dance without the same pains and clunkeyness as before. The big mirror is my friend.~ also, I saw a documentary over the past few days called "On the Trail of Genghis Khan" http://www.timcopejourneys.com/page/books---films/dvd---on-the-trail-of-genghis-khan/ This kid who has never been on a horse decides to ride from Mongolia to Hungery on the route that Genghis Khan took in the 14th century. He starts out a stupid kid with big Balls and really no idea what hes getting into, and takes over 4 yers to do the route. I though of you and your love of horses, and thought you might like it. He has a fantastic dog along for the ride too....In some ways, the story is about the horses and the dog.... Florinda, Amazon may even have some "paid" volunteer work... some big corps do that.... -

I have chosen to spend my money making life at a "save the world" job. I love my job, but make crap for a paycheck. I have no retirement through the job, do not make enough to save. But I do love it. I tell myself that 2/3rds of the value of my work is strictly volunteered, and 1/3rd I am paid for. I also love exotic travel and the inner journey as well. There are ways to get your fix... working or volunteering in a field that needs your skill set for the betterment of others. I ask you to go back in our forum posts here, to the time you were at work in the middle east... you were excited, but not happy.... and your health really suffered. I think you can figure out something that will scratch the itch, and not make you sick. I bet its close to your home there too... or in the Peace corps or something like that if you want to take it out of the US. -

Sounds like you are off to a good start! A few of us here started over a year ago.... and did pretty well getting off regain, or getting to goal. We are seeing some slippage, but we have stopped using the principles as strongly as in the beginning. I am now 7-8 pounds over my goal, and working to get it back off. After two weeks of doing fasts twice a week, and doing everything else as I did the first time, I am not losing, however, I have not given up, and know stalls all too well, so there ya go. I do like the 5:2.
-
He does not want to the the other surgery either... I was close to the cutoff, and didn't have to lose any to get the surgery.... just stay the same if you can. I don't think a pound or two will kill the deal. He just wants to make sure your liver is not fatty.

Looking TINY! Great job! Somewhere on this site there is a thread about Big Pants pics. Some really great ones there too... http://www.bariatricpal.com/topic/266039-big-pants/?hl=one+leg+big+pants#entry2990201 -
The truth is, for many with WLS it is harder to keep it off than lose it in the first place. That being said, the statistics for losing wieght and keeping most of it off show WLS is a better bet than going it alone with diet and exercise (which you will have to do with surgery as well!) My best friend was worried about me too, I was surprised she tried to talk me out of it. Maybe someday we won't need surgery, and there will be a pill or something that corrects the problem, but for now, its our best bet for better health. There are lots of medical research papers out there that tell of the success and problems with weight loss surgery, perhaps one of those might help your friend see the facts more clearly.

Good Job Kelly! ASleeve4me? Im not sure who that is... do you have a link to her profile? I would like to check her out first.... -
Fast yesterday up around 640... not TOO bad... but lunged at a treat at work without ANY little voice telling me to stop now! At week three+ of fasts.... with feast days at my 1200 baseline... a little more with exercise. So at a little over three weeks, I have TADA!!!! Stayed the same! (Not to the oz, but with little bounces...). I just started using my fitbit again and hope that helps me stay on track with exercise too. Here is my 30 day weight record. You can see pretty clearly at the beginning a loss.. this was when I started getting a handle on my uncontrolled eating.. about a week after that I was in the swing of things again. I will not give up! 179.9 is still better than 183.4, and only 7-10 pound to my goal range.
