http://www.medscape.com/viewarticle/844410?src=wnl_edit_tpal&uac=204266DY You may have to join Medscape to see this article... free, I get posts in my topic of interests from them.... Talks about percentage of weight loss using drugs or WLS.... expectations vs reality of weight loss and maintinance.... I think its a good article... at 4+ years out, maintinance is my main game as well as going back to weight loss on and off..... -

How was your 5:2 day today?
feedyoureye replied to Oregondaisy's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Sheryl.... more surgery ! Well, it is good to know the facts, and you knew something was wrong, and you can move forward to fixing it. I read a blog at one point about dancers that get hip replacements... and go on to dance (ballet!). You can too! I am back on 5:2... kind of bouncing around in the same place... but still working it. I hope I can get off this plateau soon... thanks for asking! -
Read the article I just posted on diagnosing obesity as a brain disorder.... a few hints there....

Weight Gained Since Having Gastric Sleeve Surgery
feedyoureye replied to sleeve 4 me's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I definately am an emotional eater. It is so clear to me now. Over the last year I gained 18 pounds. (!!!), three of them in the last two weeks (eating vacation... I swear, three pastery shops a day!) I feel like I finally really feel like I have had enough to eat... three days ago I started back with the whole list of dos: protein first, enough water, and semi fasting two days a week (5:2) and I have lost the 3 1/2 pounds from vacation already. I hope to get back to my goal/bounce range someday. I am tired of wearing my fat pants and missing my skinny jeans in the closet! We can do it ladies... one day at a time. I know the fast days can be hard... I find if I write everything down that I will eat after work... including something sweet... and I can look forward to that, I find its easier to stay on track the first part of the day. I also use 100 cals on a protein drink in my thai tea in the AM, that helps too. -

Yeah!!! I finally cought oup on the 4 pages I got behind.. Where was I? Friends came from New Zealand, and it was all about road trips and EATING. They were nice about going out to Vegetarian when possible. I gained 3 1/2 pounds, on top of the other poundage piling up for the last year... I have been really good the last three days (they left on sunday) and doing 5:2 and writing down everything I eat (finally) Watching the pritein first, drinking enough water and staying away from almost all refined sugar (the devil!). My show came down on sunday, Craig was nice and wrapped every piece in craft paper for future protection in storage. I did pretty well, some of the old buddies came out of the woodwork... when you get to my age, you better see'em while you have the chance! ...being your own charming self? So glad you had your work in the show! I never know how many people will show up... I just figure the people who do, the show is just for them. Its all good. I so love oils too... they just get a look that other paints cant get... and the smell is devine. Try not to get them on your hands.... the pigments can cause you to develop sensitivities... my hands start pealing if I get to lax about it. Getting older is a bi+ch! I have bone spurs in my knee.... they said they were not too bad, I was continplating cutting my leg off for a minute.... perhaps a peg leg would hurt less? I was told after you shave them off, they tend to grow back.... . I do think move it or lose it is true... as long as you can stand the pain. Me too. And I have to say, after bakeries three times a day on the road, I feel MUCH better doing the 5:2 than I did then! -

There are two types of galleries, one you show them your work and they decide if they like it or it fits their profile. This kind of gallery may have open calls for artists to submit thier work for a group show or even a one person show. These galleries do not charge the artist any fee, except if the art sells, and the persentage cam be around 50%. If they do a good j0ob on the show, I think it is worth it.... opening, advirtising, nice space, someone to watch the show during gallery hours and such. The second type of gallery is a "vanity" gallery. This kind of gallery asks the artist to pay for expences up front. They may also have calls for artists, and may not require you to fit any style or such that they represent. I personally always show in galleries that I like, and who show work that I respect, and who do not ask for up front money. I would go with submiting your work in a few galleries that accept submisissions for consideration. Also groovy coffee shops, book stores and such may have a gallery space as well that has a good environment. What do you think? Have to been to shows at your local gallery and feel a good vibe there? -
Feeling like I am taking the easy way out :-/
feedyoureye replied to Butterfly512's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Its not so much that its the easy way out as its the SUCCESSFULL way out. at 4+ years out, I have to work as hard as ever to get it off, keep it off as any diet in the past, however, the amount of work actually WORKS now. Before, I could work this hard and get very little and temporary success. Now I have a chance of keeping a big chunk of weight off. Will I be at goal forever? .... well not so far, but I am pretty close and that is awesome! Statistics say it is uncommon for someone with this surgery to get to or stay at 100% EWL, and weight gain is most common after 3 years out.... but I really count myself as a success. -
I have heard that drinking during or 30 minutes after meals cause the pyloris to open up and let the food/water out... before your body has had a chance to feel full from the chemestry. Some even drink with meals so they can eat more! I often eat soups for dinner, so really, what is the difference of that and drinking with a meal... but if you want to get the biggest bang for your buck... do not drink with or 30 minutes after a solid meal.

At 4+ years out I look at myfitnespal and see a lot of junk! I am around 12 pounds over goal range, went through my moms death and a couple of weeks ago my little companion dog of 16 years... I have no kids.... I really think feeding the emotions have me stuck in my routein... I can eat 3000 cals too, but luckily not often... I do have days were I semi-fast... once or twice a week, that helps in the long run. I am very happy with my sleeve, but it is hard to keep the course of success all the time. I do keep getting back on the horse... with good eating habits and exercise... then falling off just as often! -

I cant believe I was not on the board for over a week! Got caught up, and so nice to hear from you all. So busy, my show has been great, selling some work for a change. The weight is not so good... at 12 pounds over high bounce.... I look at myfitnesspall food lists, and its ALL junk. Carbs, deserts, heavens! I am really on a roll. Its amaizing I don't weigh more! I need a reset too... If i even took off 6 pounds, it would give me such a boost. I did go out and buy bigger pants... I thin I still look good, but am heavier and bigger. I really need to get under control. I am painting more, and working in the yard more... both good... anyway, nice to touch base with you all... glad to hear from the long lost Georgis and Kelly! Still thinking about Wanda... you out there lurking girl? -
I am working on this as well. What I have found that works the best so far (got me to under 200...) is some addition of chia seeds, flax and walnut oil and Mega Strength Beta Sitosterol daily before eating....(I use one source Naturals brand a day, you could use two if needed) My HDL has slowly gone up and the LDL slowly down as well... my numbers are not that different than yours.... its genetic.

Still Under 30# To Goal- 23 Months Out
feedyoureye replied to feedyoureye's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Stalls are normal for many. I did eventually lose my weight, now gained a little back, but all in all doing ok after 4+ years out. about 10 pounds up from goal. Best advice is use MFP, and write down what you eat every day, even if its crap. Get back onto Protein first, lower carbs (I never went to really low carbs), move, drink your Water, but not with meals... I keep it off by doing a semi fast one or two days a week. That is also how I got the last weight off after a very long stall. I used 5:2... find info on the vets forum. Best of luck... you are not even one year out, so expect to slowly lose the last part over the next year if you stay on track. It took me 3 years to get it all off. -

Thanks Sheryl. Craig and I are not looking for another girl, but are leaving a space to a special connection to happen at some time, just like our last two doggies. Our first pup we met in the Indian himalayian foothills... rescued from a street in the snow.. with a big abcess on his neck. We brought him home, our nurse friend gave him antibiotics, our farmer friend lanced the abcess... and Poopy thrived. The Tibetan landlady didn't have a problem with us taking care of the little guy in our room. When we were ready to leave town, we decided to find a good home for him. tibetans have preference for dogs that are more white than black, and Poopy was more black than white. We finally found a family that owned a tea stall up on a mountain trail who wanted a little dog. The took good care of him, but one day we asked how he was, and found out he was killed and eaten by a leopard.... poor little Poopy... and poor family, but his life was better than it would been if we would have left him sick on the street. We found Sukie just a few months after Poopy died... if you believe in reincarnation, she could have been made of Poopy energy.... crazy but it crossed both of our minds when we saw her.... -

Feeling a bit like crap/sad on and off, but thats to be expected. Craig is coming home after 5 weeks tomorrow night. I hope it is a good reunion. I have often thought our little dog kept us together at times. We will see how the new environment is for our marriage. I am very happy for you Sheryl, Scott sounds like a keeper, and it sounds like he feels the same about you. My old dog sitter/nanny gave me a dozen Gladiolas today... she called last night crying. What a softy, just like me. It was so sweet of her. My art show has been going really well... sold a number of pieces and meeting lots of new people including a few collectors. I will be showing my animations next sunday followed by a pot luck at the gallery, that should be fun. Got a few goal/things done over the last 5 weeks, that makes me feel good... getting excited to work on some new paintings for a show in August. Seeing all my work up like this show reminds me of what I can and have accomplished in my life art wise... Its a good feeling. -

Coops... so sorry about your Mam.... My Ma had bowl problems near the end of her life. Scary to get surgery when your so small, my mom was pretty tall, and weighed around 105 lbs. Sending love and hugs to you and your family. Well, tonight pretty late, my little dog started acting strance, disoriented and surprised... I picked her up and she was panicing.... she then pooped on me, threw up and urinated on me.... within a couple of minutes. It was clear that she was in pain, and something extra bad was going on with her. She lost much of her control over her hind legs, and has a bit of a head tilt. I drove her to the nearest 24 hour vet, it took me over 20 minutes to get there with her crying and making choking noises... so sad and horrible. The Vet asked questions... and thought probably she had liver function problems, and feared there was a deeper problem underneath, like perhaps a couple of strokes or a tumer of some kind. At her age, no surgery and even though I can hold open the hope that she will get better... its not likely... I had her put down, while holding her in my arms... little dear. She calmed down before we out the IV in her leg.... and fell asleep for a little bit from exostion... I just pet her and told her what a good girl she was until she was gone. I still can't believe it really... she is sitting in a little card board coffin on my table... I never had kids, and she has given me the chance to love and care for someone unconditinally, I really was her mom. If this doesnt make me want to eat, I don't know what will.
