Be CAREFUL on the Ice out there
sharold7 replied to Cinderella's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thank you, I actually fell on my back hard 3 weeks ago and broke a rib. Very painful, especially when coughing. I hadn't checked the weather and there was glare ice on the concrete driveway where I went to get the newspaper. I'm glad I only broke a rib tho'. It could have been an arm or a leg or worse because I sure went down hard and fast! No fun. Now I am very careful where I step. -
Ugh, I'd hate to meet your stupid uncle! When they passed out brains, he must have said he didn't need one. I am dumbfounded with his stupidity!

THE STALL HAS BEEN BROKEN!!!

That's terrific! I'm so happy for you. It really does feel good to lose that much! Sharon -
The girl on the Atkins diet can truthfully say she's on the Adkins diet and if you go to Weight Watchers like some do, they can truthfully say they are going to Weight Watchers.

If you do go to a doctor other than Dr. Watkins, ask him if he could check to see if you have a hiatal hernia while you're in there and would he repair it if you do have one and if he will, is there an extra charge. I think that is a very important thing to take care of. Other surgeons do that too but I don't know which ones in Mexico but I'm sure they can do it easily.

My daughter went to Dr Corvala and she was very happy with him. He uses a very good modern hospital also and has probably had more plication experiance than most other doctors. His price was flexible also at the time she had the surgery.

Has your surgeon ever been overweight? Did you read the other posts. Most of them said to eat 1000 calories or more. Going down in calories will just put you in a worse starvation mode. Some people can lose a lot of weight on very low calories but the majority of people on just this thread have better success with eating more. At least more protein and fat. Fat is important too, very important. Maybe you aren't eating enough fat! Just showing that I care! Sharon

I am usually on the obesity help.com forum and the majority of people who give advice about stalls in weight loss advise the people to add a Protein shake or up the calories. I think you should try 1000 calories per day for a while and see how that works or at least add a Protein Shake. I know I can't lose on 800 calories per day for very long. I have to eat 1000 to 1100 per day to lose. You might be like me. Sharon
-
I've also read in several other posts that if you stall you should up the calories so I'd say to eat at least 800 calories if not more. One or more people even said to up the fats and that worked for them enough times that it wasn't a coincidence.

Thank you! Looks like you're having a great start. I'm sure you'll do well! Sharon

"Don't lose too much weight"
sharold7 replied to Lisalu's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have a different slant to add to this. I think when you are a young person, you can get skinny and still look good but if you are an older person like me, I don't want to look older so I want to know when I've reached the point where I still look younger and not gaunt. That point for me is now at 5'4" and 144 pounds. Even tho' I'm not a size 10 or less, I agree with my husband and others that I've gone down far enough. It isn't even difficult for me anymore since I realized that when I eat more, I lose more but there is a point where it doesn't look good any more and for me that was when my BMI was down to 25 and the chart said I am average and not overweight. I think sometimes we can't see ourselves as others see us so we might need the opinions of those we love to let us know when we are thin enough. Just my opinion. Sharon -
Yep, same thing happens to me. I was eating about 800 calories/day for quite a while and lost very slowly but since i've been up to 1200/day I've lost about every day. I was totally surprised. I've been following the diet plan without the sleeve and it's working for me. I'm on here because my daughter had the sleeve in July and I got inspired to try the diet myself since I'm not heavy enough to have WLS. I've been struggling with weight practically all my life tho' and it's nice to find out I don't have to starve myself to lose. That's how I found out that I lose better when eating more as long as I eat protein first. I'm actually going to try to maintain now and am gradually upping my calories to find out at what point I will stop losing. I've been as high as 212 and now I'm 144. It feels great! Sharon

Escapesunshine, that was a blessing your insurance paid for it but do you mind telling me why the bill was so high? Was this vertical sleeve surgery? Did you have serious complications? Sharon
-
My daughter, Julie6 on this website, had the sleeve plication in July for just $7000 including 3 nights in a great hospital. A very positive experience with Dr. Corvala. Sharon

A Hundred Pounds... Finally!
sharold7 replied to Keys Pirate's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Wow, I am sooo happy for you! Size 6 is unreal! I weigh only 146.5 and wear 12 to 14's so you are blessed! Congratulations on a job well done. It must feel so awesome to have lost 100 pounds! Sharon -
My husband and I both take Cymbalta. Recently he was able to cut down to every other day. Before Cymbalta, Celexa worked for years for me. I don't get anxiety but just a very sad feeling for which I need anti-depressants. Neither of us had any side effects. My daughter takes Celexa with no side effects.

Does Gastric Sleeve Surgery "cure" diabetes?
sharold7 replied to MINI-Me's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
My best friend had the sleeve in July and hasn't had an insulin shot since the day of surgery. She has diabetes 2 and continues to test her blood but she hasn't needed the shots since the surgery and no pills either. it's been 2 months now for her. -
Calling all (TGVP) people!!! new procedure
sharold7 replied to joyfuljoy's topic in Gastric Plication Surgery Forum
It is best to get a surgeon that will repair the hiatal hernia at the same time he does the plication. I heard it is a simple repair. -
Amen is right! I am so happy for you and can't help but think of the people who aren't able to have this surgery. It is certainly a blessing for those who benefit from it!

Looking for Texas Sleevers???
sharold7 replied to ahchancey's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hello Queendiva, I see that you said Medicare won't cover your sleeve. Well, my friend had the sleeve in July and Medicare covered her sleeve. They may have coded it differently but Medicare did cover her surgery. I think if you call them now they'll say they cover it. How are you doing? -
