Well I did some research on the lap band surgery after accidentally posting on the main boards of www.obesityhelp.com. I was directed to look at the "revisions" boards- and it wasn't pretty. I've decided the RNY is what's best for me as a result. Thanks to everyone who answered my many questions and good luck to everyone. I'll be blogging about my experiences pre-op and post-op and would love to follow bloggers who are starting their wls journey as well! Happy Easter all! My blog http//starlitsummer.org

Why is that some people feel so compelled to dish out advice in regards to weight loss- especially those who don't personally struggle with it themselves?? I am not hiding the fact that I intend to have lap-band surgery and overall people have been positive and supportive so I can't complain. But there are those few.... Today a woman next to me at my hairdressers mentioned her mother and sister had gastric bypass and I chirped up and informed them that I'm having lap-band as soon and as fast as these pre-op months will go...(the alternative would be for me to NOT mention this and basically lie to everyone when weight starts coming off and that won't work for me.) Anyway, my new hairdresser (who is excellent at highlights!) looks at me and gawks. She then asks me why I would consider something so extreme and had I tried losing the weight naturally? WTH??? I smiled politely and told her "Yes, of course I have and I have yoyo'd for years and I'm actually quite excited about the surgery (Thank you very much!) but she continued... She went on to tell me every horror story she could think of (all 3 of which were gastric bypass stories which she was confusing with lap band) and I ended up explaining the process and that both surgeries were actually pretty common now and much safer than they were 20 years ago. etc. Anyway she was not happy until she had given me the name of her holistic doctor who she swears for 175 an hour can cure me of obesity. I love my highlights, but jeez! Anybody else deal with this?? Secondly, my sister (who is a size 1, models for a living, and who has never had any weight issues) insists that "only the strong survive" and that I "just need to ask the universe to give me the body that I want, to envision it" LMAO. She watches The Secret a little too much. I would love to know how others on here deal with friendly and not so friendly unsolicited advice.

Oh jeeze, I'm fat because: 1. My portions have grown over the years 2. I'm fairly sedentary in the winter which is about 9mths of the yr inPA! 3. I crave carbs I'm not really a binge eater though I've definitely had times when I knowing ate past full If you do any of thesethings for enough years you'll be fat!

Wrapping My Brain around this
ete77 replied to Dibley Dawn's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have some of the same fears. I crave chocolate and carbs and I do worry about the band taking away real hunger but me still dealing with the head hunger. I do think that its a good thing that I won't make it a habit of overdoing it and overeating because like Pavlov's dogs, I'll learn from consequences. I LOVE nyc. Trvael there once or twice a year and hopefully six months after this surgery I can go again and not be huffing and puffing around! Good luck to you! -
6 months of supervised diet?

I am just starting the presurgery meetings with my PCP as well. I'm so glad so many of you posted who have highmark bcbs because that's my insurance and I was wondering how the approval process worked. I have a coworker who had the Roux en Y and she had to do the 6 mths and had all kinds of testing required (sleep apnea etc) but when I called my insurance provider they didn't mention that. My firstappt with the PCP is on April 28th. I CANNOT WAIT for these 6 mths to pass. I'm thinking surgery will be in November or December of 2011 and I hope to be a few sizes down by the summer of 2012!! -
Hi, I am new here and very excited to be beginning my journey towards WLS. I have many people in my life who feel strongly one way or another about this choice I have made and so I am spending my presurgery time researching lap-band and blogging about my personal experiences throughout the process. Does anyone else have family members who disapprove?? Ugh!!! If you have a WLS (before or after) blog you'd like me to follow reply below with it and please follow mine at http://banderella.org/
