    Port Lflipped Twice!!

Both times the repairs were done under general anesthesia. I was home that same afternoon. The Dr. didn't have any explanation as to why this has happened. He had one other patient who's port flipped, but that was the only other time this has happened to him. Hopefully it won't happen again.

    Port Lflipped Twice!!

My doctor stitched both of them. He said after the first time it flipped he really sutured it into the abdominal muscles well. But, it flipped again. I wonder if it is an issue with my anatomy.
  3. Has anyone had this happen to them or do you have any idea why this has happened to me? My port flipped for the second time. 6 months ago I had outpatient surgery to replace a flipped port. The doc discovered it after being unable to do a second fill. Then just the other day after trying to get another fill the doc couldn't access the port and had me come in to do it under fluoroscopy where it was discovered that once again the port had flipped completely upsidedown. I had the second surgery today to replace the port and hopefully this won't happen again. Would love to hear your thoughts on this.

    BUNCH OF LAPBAND INFO

"The band isn't about restriction, it's about appetite control. http://drsimpson.net...estriction.html" Melissannde Thank you for that link.. Wonderful information and a great perspective on how the band operates. I will return to the site frequently to remind myself how to do it as I progress on my journey.
  5. Diarrhea is not necessarily normal. This may be as you suspect a lactose intolerance. Diarrhea without Fluid replacement (drinking more) can lead to dehydration. We don't want that. Diarrhea may be a result of irritation from manipulation of the gut during surgery, but again it is not ideal as it may lead to dehydration. Liquids in does NOT mean diarrhea out. Maybe more urine, and smaller and fewer normal bms--- not loose bms. I suggest calling your doctor's office to see what he/she suggests. Constipation can be normal after surgery because your gut will be slow from the anesthesia and the use of pain killers. Drinking extra fluids and walking helps with the constipation. hope this helps!

    April 2011 Bandits

Hi, I was banded on April 19th. I also had the unexpected hiatal hernia repair. I had the single incision surgery, so only had steri-strips at my belly button and a tiny one below the center of my chest. I had my post-op appt with the surgeon at 7 days and he said everything looks great and cleared me for all exercise. Diet has been a struggle. I was on Clear liquids for 2 days-- no problem, then full liquids til May 1. I have to admit I started eating mushies already and some foods that were less than mushy, which I chewed really well. Im tracking my calories--1200 or less and doing low carb. Im not feeling much restriction, but I did have a stuck episode today. Eating too fast. I have lost 11# since the pre-op diet. I'm not worried about the lack of restriction. My doc said the first weeks before the fill are the hardest because you are doing it all on will power alone. I can have my first fill at 5 wks post. Pain has been minimal. I took my Lortab elixer for the first few days, then didn't really need it. I went to the gym for the first time today and did 30 min on the elliptical with no problems. Good to meet all of you. (oh and to sandralee74 who posted above: I would call your doc and let him know about your GERD. It can be a sign of slippage.)
  7. For extra calories and protein you could try something like Isopure. They are clear liquids with protein in them and no carbs. The ones I got were in flavors like grape and orange and had 40 grams of protein per bottle. The best flavor is probably the grape and you can find these and others like it at health food stores. Good luck!

    Bruises

My pre-op RN mentioned this and said it was really common. I would just mention it at your next doctor's appt. But I don't think it is anything to worry about.
  11. HI, I was banded on the 19th. Sorry I don't have any suggestions re: veg or whey. I just wanted to wish you luck and hope you find all the support you need here.

    Hello from New York

Every doctor and program is different, so diets and such may vary. My physician had me on a liquid, low carb, high protein diet 1 week before surgery. This was to help shrink the liver to make it easier to do the surgery. After surgery I am on a clear liquid diet for a few days, then full liquids for about 10 days, then pureed diet, then soft diet then regular diet. My physician did a single incision laproscopic surgery which I did at the hospital under general anesthesia,. I had my procedure in the morning and was on my way home after 2pm that afternoon. I was told to take a week off of work. I had my surgery on Tuesday and plan to go back to work on Monday morning. I am 4 days post-op right now and have very little pain. I haven't had to take any pain medicine in over 24 hrs. When I do go to eat a regular diet I was told to use a salad plate instead of a dinner plate. Devote half of the plate to protein-- 3-4 oz., then for the other half divide that into a 3/4 and 1/4 compartment. The larger compartment is for vegetables and the smaller for starch. Something like 1 cup of veggies and 2 tablespoons of rice or pasta. I hope this answers some of your questions. Again, every doctor does it differently. I suggest looking for an MD that works with a comprehensive program that addresses the surgical, nutritional, psychological and exercise needs of each patient. My program also has monthly support groups and allows unlimited visits with the nutritionist. Good luck with your journey!
  13. If you are one week post-op you may still be taking the pain meds which likely have a constipating effect. I was prescribed lortab elixer which is like Vicodin and causes constipation. Drink lots of water, take the fiber and walk as much as possible.

    Tickers

I just clicked on someone else's ticker. It took me to the ticker site and I followed the directions for making a new ticker. Then copy the url you get and paste it into your signature on here. So far I've had no problems.
