  1. Hi, I am 11 days post-op (banded 4/7) and I was wondering if any of you went through a "grieving period," where you really upset that you could not eat the large quantities of food you ate before. For me it was Domino's pizza...I used to order a small and eat the whole thing and then half a breadstick. Now I look at pictures of it and have even cried over the possibility of restricting myself. So far I have lost 24 pounds on my own and 19 pounds with the band. I really love the way I feel (granted being on a 2 week liquid diet). But did anybody...especially emotional eaters...ever actually grieve over the thought of not being able to eat in excess the junky fatty foods? I know this is going to be an amazing change and I am so excited and thankful for my band and to be eating healthy...but I also feel right now that without food I feel incredibly vulnerable. Has anyone else experienced it? How have you dealt with it?

    Brigham and Women/Faulker Hospital

Yes-I was trying to put it nicely. I always thought he didn't like me because of my young age. I was going to change doctors but he is a skilled surgeon despite his..personality. The funny thing is all the other professionals I have seen seem to love him!

    New to this site

Hi! I am new to the band this website too. I was banded April 7th and was becoming really doubtful right before my surgery. In my opinion, there are many more GOOD stories than bad ones. I've only had my band for 10 days but personally-it has really helped me lose weight. I have not been "filled yet" but for some reason (whether it is mental or not) I have had restriction. I am on a 2 week liquid diet post-op and so far I have lost 19 pounds and 45 pounds total! A lot of it is willpower but I think that knowing you have a "tool" really helps.

I couldn't help but laugh when you mentioned "dropping the f bomb" to Dr. Robinson. I recently was banded and he is a good surgeon and very nice but IMO, very conservative/professional . Good luck on everything!

    Oh Mushies....

Wow congratulations!!! Yeah I am afraid bread might get stuck for me. I go to school in Boston but i actually live 25 minutes from Worcester around the Hopkinton area. Yeah I am definitely trying to keep up with my fluids...it's hard when you're on all liquids..at least i get to eat mushies soon!! Please stay out of the hospital and good luck on your journey too!!!

    Oh Mushies....

No, I am able to move around and do stuff. I don't really have a choice I go to school in Boston and have to walk to class-which is 15 minutes and hilly. I have lost 41 pounds since January 24 in total... 24 on the day of my surgery (April 7th) and 17 since then! Thanks for your advice- I think I am going to try to exercise more as soon as I get on mushies right now I just walk a little bit.
  8. My doctor told me it would get better each day. The first few days were hell, I had a lot of gas build up and needed help just getting up! I am 9 days post op and now I still have some gas but I find most of my weakness comes from an all liquid diet. I still have problems with gas building up in my chest area-but I find taking walks really helps (I don't go that far). Today I actually feel like I can take my first deep breath!
  9. Hi, I was recently banded April 7th, 2011. Before the surgery I had to do a semi liquid diet and now post-op I am doing a completely liquid diet of Clear liquids and Protein shakes. Since January 24th, 2011 I have been starting to get back into a diet I managed to lose 24 pounds with a few ups and downs before my surgery.... Now I have lost a total of 41 pounds since surgery and am going through hell trying to stick with liquids. I haven't cheated or anything but I literally dream of pizza every night! I have a few questions with the mushy stage to come: 1. Will I gain all the weight back I have worked my butt off to lose? 2. Will I start to feel better? Because right now I feel like I just had surgery... 3. What type of foods did you guys eat in order to keep the weight off? Thanks so much.Looking forward to the tips !
