    How to come out

Just tell them what you did. It is a great tool. I am only 5 days out and am loving my sleeve already. Maybe it would be a good tool for them too. Khy

    3 months sleeved!!

You are an inspiration. Thanks for posting your progress. Khy
  3. It varies... I was sent home the day after surgery with pain pills, oxycodone-acetominaphen. I was told to resume my vitamin supplements many of which are pill form and my synthroid. The only one I have trouble with is the biotin. I guess I wasn't paying attenion when I bought it. It is in huge capsules. I think I have seen it in small pills. Khy

Good info! Muscle loss and weight loss

The 3 things he said were creatine, whey protein (we all know about that) and glutamine. He talked mostly about creatine. He didn't say much about glutamine. Glutamine is an amino acid and therefore some should be in the whey protein in all those protein shakes I am trying to get down. Khy
  5. Idk that sounds like an awful lot of weight. Maybe you should just briefly check with your Doc. If that is ok.... then I am envious... My surgery was July 26th. I gained 4.5 lbs from the I/V's. That came off with an additional 5 or 6 lbs. Nothing like the weight loss you are experiencing. Khy

Good info! Muscle loss and weight loss

Hnmmn so why aren't we all taking creatine? Sounds almost too good to be true. Sigh .. might have to do a test run and see if it makes that much difference. Khy
  7. Nope it is not. I had to do one for my hysterectomy. ICK. Might be better though cause after your surgery you don't want to have to deal with it. Khy
  8. sugar free Jello, plain yogurt with some sugar free carmel or chocolate topping mixed in, tomato Soup made with skim milk, sugar free pudding made with skim milk. khy

    Ketosis

Yes I am gonna have a discussion with the doc about this. Part is just the way my body reacts to ketosis. I have done the Atkins thing before and... well it failed because I could not live like that. We were just told to keep hydrated, drink protein drinks for a total of 90-100 g a day (3 g or less of fat and 3 g or less of sugar) and avoid carbohydrates. I am not able to get 90 grams down yet. I can get about 60 down. I am restricted to 4oz or less of fruit juice (no sugar added) a day and 4 oz or less of tomato soup a day because it has carbs in it. Things like crystal lite or sugar free jello are free. I can use them as part of my 48 oz of fluid. Weeks 3&4 the fluid goes up to 64 oz. I am taking my vitamins- don't seem to have a problem holding them down. I felt so bad today that I mixed my 2nd protein drink with 1% milk ( with evil carbs) and I felt much better after I got it down. Khy
  11. It gets better. It gets a little better each day. Sometimes it is so little you can't tell. Everyday think back to about two days ago and compare it. Sip your fluids and keep up with your pain meds. Sleep when you can. I am sorry you had such a rough time of it. Khy

    I'm home!

Glad you are home and ok. I too am not getting all the liquid down that I should. I don't think I am getting dehydrated but well it all just doesn't seem to fit yet. Jello seems to go down pretty easy though. Khy
  13. Just wondered if this was normal. I am 3 days post op and am feeling hot and sweating like a pig. My house is 78 degrees. I have walked some this morning but now am resting. Is this part of the body getting rid of the anesthetic and I/V fluids or is it something I should be concerned about? Khy
  14. People seem to carry their fat different places. Mine is carried all in my belly and kind of up high. I don't really have any hips so I am not proportional. Very Ugly! Carrying the weight this way makes me look and feel very clumsy... Khy
  15. LOL NICE! Makes life much easier doesn't it? Khy

    Coffee

I think it varies from doc to doc what they allow you to do. My doc says wait at least 3 months but he would prefer we wait 6 months. Khy
  17. My doc has his patients fill out a health questionnaire, then he went over it with them in detail. At that point I think it depends on what he finds out. I had a history of heart palpitations so he wanted an EKG done. The EKG was abnormal so he wanted a cardiac clearance done. Most pre-op work ups include various blood tests, a chest x-ray and an EKG. I think what the surgeon will want depends on the individual involved. Khy
  18. Glad you are joining us. I too am struggling to get down everything they say I should get down. I manage to get a bit more each day. Right now I am looking forward to losing all the water weight from the IV's in the hospital. I gained 4 lbs. from the surgery... I think my body worked on that today. LOL I still feel a little rough but it does get slightly better each day. In a way I look forward to having less trouble getting all the things in that I am supposed to but at the same time... feeling the restriction is very good too. KHy

    Sip sip sip sip... AHHHHH!

Let us know how you do. I had mine Tuesday too and I have not been able to get everything down they want me to get down. I get a little more down each day and really I think that is really what the doctors expect. Khy

    Anterior Infarct?

Well they will put you through a bunch of tests none of which are too bad. Probably a sonogram of the heart, and maybe a thallium stress test. Good Luck and let us know how things turn out. Khy
  21. Well so far... Nothing has changed except.... One of my boys had fried fish for dinner last night. It smelled so good, but I also realized I didn't want to eat it. It was a weird feeling...I wanted it but equally I didn't want it. Well I always said I could hold 2 opposing opinions in my mind at the same time and not think it illogical. Maybe this is the beginning of the change of my relationship with food. Khy
  22. Yes that is what it is like, Hot Flashes! They started yesterday and have continued all day today. I have managed to get 60g of protein in and 40 oz of fluid. A little low on the fluid but the day isn't over. KHY

    Imurance is switching!

There are lots of different forms of Aetna. Just as I started this journey, my husband got a new job. So I had the choice of staying with Tricare standard or going with Aetna. Turns out that Tricare does not cover the sleeve and that was what I wanted. As soon as he signed up for Aetna, I started jumping through their hoops. They did approve me but on my plan they only pay half. I think some of the things you are doing now will fulfill some of the Aetna requirements. Khy
  24. You don't want it to go away. It is your body making an effort to rid itself of all the gas they put into your abdomen. Eventually it will make its way down and out. I was sleeved on Tuesday and although it doesn't hurt, it sounds like a thunderstorm is taking place in my gut. Khy
  25. I had my surgery July 26th. I had 2 big scares but now they seem funny. My doc tends to do all bands one day and all sleeves the next day and all gastric bypasses on another day. My doc had switched my surgery date within one week several times so the idea of getting the wrong surgery had in the late night hours already insinuated itself into my head. The nurse that takes care of you in recovery is not necessarily the one that is in the O.R. . In recovery I told the nurse I was having trouble breathing. I was a little scared about that. She called the anesthesiologist over and said "this lady just had a gastric bypass and she can't breathe." I was still foggy and did not yet have control of my mind or mouth. I shouted " I sure the *%$# did not! I better not have had a gastric bypass." The nurse looked startled for a moment and then said oh right... u had the sleeve. Anesthesiologist remarked that I seemed to be breathing just fine... The first day after they gave me dilaudid and so again I was not thinking clearly. Lab person came in and said he needed to do a blood sugar. OK.. gave him one of my fingers to stick. "Hmm" he said," it is 191." What???? He wanted to know if it was not normally that high. NO! I said I am not diabetic! "Oh" he said you aren't? You should get that checked out." No! I refuse to be diabetic (like anyone has a choice). Turns out they were giving me glucose in the I.V. and he took the blood downstream of that. If I had been thinking clearly I wouldn't have worried all night about it....So 2 days post op I have some incision pain. I am walking around right now like I am a twin to Quasimodo. I know I am supposed to sip but the sugar free jello seems to slip down so easily. I do not have gas pain but it sounds like a war going on in my guts. It is so loud it embarrassing. Khy
