Ketosis in general makes me feel like I am trying to move through cold molasses. My body does not like it at all. Some people say it makes them feel like they have so much energy but it has never made me feel that way. It makes me tired, weak, dizzy and feel like I am going to pass out. But starting tomorrow... I am going to try 6 months of it. If I can't deal with it then I will have to depend on the major calorie deficit and exercise to bring about the weight loss. I understand that weight loss will probably be slower but as long as it comes off I am happy with it. Khy

Anyone have the sleeve that has a thyroid problem?
Khy replied to aliciac's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
My doc says he does a lot of patients that are hypothyroid. He did ask when my last TSH was and was it in the normal range. He said he didn't like to get into surgery with patients that were not on the correct doseage of synthroid (levothyroxine). He said if my TSH levels were normal then it was not a problem. My PCP will monitor my TSH after surgery to make sure I stay on the correct doseage. Khy -
yes we are sleevesisters! Or will be soon! Khy

My date is the 26th too! One more day and then it will be here. I am third in. Not sure if that is good or bad. Only allowed to have ice chips the first day. But then maybe I won't want anything else. I just remember from previous surgeries that I was thirsty the first day. Khy

You might try a product called Ziasorb. Also I have a friend that uses stuff call "No more Monkey Butt." She swears by it but the name..... Khy -
im seriously regretting this
Khy replied to lovemyboys's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes you are miserable now but it will get better. Will they let you try different temperatures of fluid? The temperature seems to make a difference to some people. Khy -
Well we can get our "Breast-ees" rehung. You also can get your Testes rehung. Khy

What is this thing of males afraid to get snipped... Sorry this has pissed me off for years. Hubby was willing to let me get abdominal surgery to fix the fertility problem but he REFUSED to even talk about a vasectomy. I don't get it.... Khy

My wife seems jealous or upset
Khy replied to Neoteric Verve's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
When a woman says "That's fine." You know it is about the most opposite it can get, then the icy chill atmosphere sets in. You might think of delaying yours to be just a little closer to hers. It is really refreshing that you are sensitive to her feelings and it is obvious that you still love her. My husband is all for this surgery because I look like a fat pig to him. Granted I am about 110lbs over what he married and he liked what he married. I am grateful for his support for this surgery but I know I am doing it for me. Because of my weight and other things, marriage has been a bit rough at times. Khy -
LOL that is funny... you should charge them. Khy

Good Luck, walk and rest. Post how you are doing when you get home. Khy

Pain Under My Ribs on Left Side
Khy replied to Penpen's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't know how your doctor does the surgery but mine said that is the left side is where he removes the stomach. The incision is a little bigger and also they separate the muscle to allow the stomach to be pulled out. He puts stitches in the muscle afterwards. He said many of his patients complain of pain in that area. I don't know how long is normal for that pain to continue. You might want to give a quick call to the Dr. just to make sure he doesn't think anything else is going on. Khy -
How long are you waiting for Surgery?
Khy replied to Papa Jack's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
5 month wait for me. 3 month preop diet and exercise and then insurance approval. It would have been faster if I had wanted the gastric bypass. Tricare only requires 1 Nut appt. instead of 3 or 4. They have other requirements but they are pretty quick to get done. Khy -
Can you get to much Protein?
Khy replied to Texasmom65's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Just did my pre-op class and they told us to try to get in 90-100g a day. Seems high compared to everyone else but I intend to try to follow my Dr.'s orders... Khy -
My Ekg showed inverted T waves. So off to the cardiologist. And yes I was on Phen Phen for a short time. Another EKG, a heart sonogram, a thallium stress test when they put radioactive liquid into your veins and then you get on the treadmill. After much stress and freaking out about what was wrong... the Dr. said he couldn't find anything wrong and gave me a cardiac clearance. Khy

Approval Anxiety is Getting to Me
Khy replied to Neoteric Verve's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Well it seems you have it done. Get that last Nut in and then I would have them submit asap. Under 1-C-1, did you work with a nutritionist during that part? If so... then you should be able to submit now. I quaified under the 3 month physician and nut presurgical program. The insurance coordinator at my Dr. office is pretty insurance savy. We kinda worked as a team. I would call and find out what was needed and then I would call her and she would get it in that day. The longest part was getting them to put me in the system. I would call and they would say they recieved it but I wasn't in the system yet. Your paper work won't go to the nurse for preview until somebody takes the time to enter you into the system. After a few days I would start expressing concern that you are not in the system when you call them. That prompts them to transfer you to someone else and they will put you in the system. Once the nurse gets it, she will say if any other documentation is needed. Sometimes they will tell you what is needed and other times not. It depends on who answers the phone. I did have a couple of people say that something was needed but wouldn't tell me what. Others were up front and told me what the insurance coordinator needed to send. Then you have to prompt them to attach anything extra that was sent to your file. After that you will be approved or denied shortly. Sounds like you meet the qualifications so I would think they would approve you. Khy -
I think we all have these thoughts. I keep thinking... why couldn't I just do this myself. Why do I have to have surgery to do this? Well I don't know why but I know I can't. I have tried many times. It has come down to the fact that I want to lose the weight. I am soooo tired of dragging it around. The weight makes me feel clumsy and unattractive (I am not looking for pretty...just not hard to look at). People assume because you are fat... you are stupid, even other heavy people think this. That part is all vanity. Being heavy is hard on your heart and joints. My family seems to be predisposed to high cholesterol, diabetes, and heart problems. It is in my best health interest to do this. No I don't want to give up some things but if that is the price I have to pay, then I am more than willing to pay it. I am an emotional eater. I felt like if no one else cared or felt like they had to go out fo their way to be nice to me, I would be nice to myself by treating myself with food. Now I am going to be nice to myself in a much better way. I am going to have this surgery and it will pay off in ways that will make me much happier than eating ever did. Think about why you want to have the surgery and make yourself a list. Write down all the good things it can do for you. Then keep looking at your list when you are starting to question yourself. Khy

Approval Anxiety is Getting to Me
Khy replied to Neoteric Verve's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
How many apointments with the Nut have you had? My Dr. filed early. They say they want 3 visits with the nut but what they really want is 4. My insurance is aetna also. Go back and read my topic labeled Advocate for Yourself. Aetna is very busy this time of year. The only reason I got my approval when I did ( and it was not fast) was because I kept calling and asking. You need to get them to put you in the system and you need to make sure all your paperwork is attached to your file. Khy -
I did my pr-eop Monday. Previous to that my surgeon ordered and EKG which turned out abnormal. I was put through another EKG, a heart sonogram, a thallium stress test ( where they put radioactive fluid in your veins) and tread mill. I was really freaking out thinking I was gonna have heart bypass surgery not VSG. After all of that I asked the Cardiologist what was wrong and he said he couldn't find anything. You will be fine. Just think of it as another step to prepare for your surgery. They might give you this little red bracelet to wear that has your type and cross match on it. I have gotten some weird looks because I have to wear it until my surgery which they finally decided was next Tuesday. I think with pre-ops, no news is good news. Khy

Good luck and we all will be thinking of you. Post when you can so we all know you made it through. Khy

Your surgery date is the same as mine. Yes I am kind of freaking out too. If it would make you feel better, write those letters. Maybe it will give you peace of mind. I am more jittery about this surgery than any of my others. The others I did not really have a choice. It was a matter of life or a rather unpleasent death. Maybe because this is elective, and I have too much time to think it is freaking me out. You are going through this surgery for a very good reason. You are doing it so you will be around for your children. See if you can get an appointment with the psych you went to see before. I think they wil be able to help you settle your mind a bit. Khy

Yes I think a second opinion is the best thing you can do for yourself. Opening you up four times is too much. Maybe your present surgeon's ego will not let him admit there is something wrong.. Khy
