I too am having a tiny bit of greek yogurt with some sugar-free carmel topping in it. I am feeling some better but still some incision site pain. My husband is terrified of me getting addicted to pain killers. I have never been addicted to any type of drug in my life but with every surgery we go through this struggle of when will be my last pain pill. He has let me know that he thinks I should not take them tomorrow. I usually just ignore him and stop the pain pills when I no longer need them. Khy

I teach 7th grade science. I only have about 20 minutes for lunch and some days I don't have that because I have lunch duty. I just figure I will have to use a protein drink for lunch and finish it while I am teaching. We are not supposed to eat or drink in the classroom but if the principal questions me then I will get a note from my doctor. I will probably get one anyway before I go back. Most of the kids are protective but there is always one that likes to see if he/she can get the teacher in trouble. I had one of those last year. Khy

Mine uses a 34 bougie on most women and will use a 36 on some men. He said if you get too small then the stomach can twist. Khy

I think one of the reasons you can't breathe after surgery is you are laying flat and all the gas is pushing against your chest. I told the nurse a gorilla was sitting on my chest... They kept me on oxygen for a bit after surgery. The first time I got up they didn't put it back on. I asked about it and they asked me if I felt like I needed it. I told them no I was just fine so they took it away. Khy

Hmmn don't think I had a drain. I do have a lot of pain from the left incision site.. The one where they remove your stomach. We made it through together. Now I can't wait for the weight loss to start... that will be exciting but OHH HOW I HATE KETOSIS. My body just doesn't want to do it. It is a major wrench to shift into it and a major wrench when it shifts out. Let me know how you are progressing Khy

LOL I am already sleeved! My doc kept changing my date. I ended up being sleeved on the 26th. Khy -
Good to hear you made it through to the other side. I am having some incision site pain too. My doc only keeps us overnight. Having the hospital bed to help me up and down was nice. Getting rid of that 18 gage IV was nice too. I was trying to tough it out without pain meds last night but what that got me was stuck in bed... I had to have my son come pull me out. LOL Oh well I guess I will have to give in and take them for the next day or so. I have found that crushing the pills and mixing them with jello helps get them down. Khy

My doc sends his patients home with a large quantity of those 1 oz. medicine cups. For right now he said that is your glass and your plate. I find it helps me remember to sip. I can have 1 to 1 1/2 of those every 15 minutes. Khy

My PCP had never heard of it either. She is very opposed to WLS anyway. She told me if I wanted the bypass she would not refer me or any patient in her practice. At that point I sort of glossed over what is was and tried not to be too informative as I did not know which way she would jump. She said if I could not lose weight without it... why would I lose weight with it? Because of that and other reasons, I switched PCP's. My current PCP is supportive of my decision to do this. Actually I think he is looking at me as a kind of guinea pig to see if he should recommend it to some of his other patients. Khy

Hiccups suck the day after surgery. Did this happen to anyone else? Any ideas on how to get rid of it? Khy

Talked to my doc today after my surgery yesterday. He said my stomach was fairly large for someone of my weight and size (meaning there was a lot to pull out through the incision). Just wondering how much a stomach actually weighs.. Khy

Gratz on the walking. Don't know how you did it. My left side really hurts. LOL got stuck in bed today because I decided not to take a pain pill before I laid down. Had to have my son pull me up. I have been walking but not that much. Day of surgery I wasn't sleepy at all. I kept thinking I just had surgery my body needs sleep.. Well my body wasn't having any of it. But that caught up with me today. Khy

Wow you are a beautiful lady. You look wonderful! Khy -
Home today and feeling a little rough but that is to be expected. Had 2 scares. Told the nurse in recovery that I was having trouble breathing. She called the anthesiologist over and said "This lady just had gastric bypass surgery and she can't breathe.' Panic! Wasn't able to control my mouth and said " Oh &%$* no I just didn't." She looked at me funny for a moment and said... oh right... u just had the sleeve. Just turned out to be gas moving up toward my chest. Next scare... Night of the surgery they did a blood glucose and it was 191. YIKES! I told the lady that sounded awful high. She said well u must be diabetic... is it usually lower? Turns out they were giving me glucose in my IV. And yes I did get 3 units of insulin. Other than that things went well. Khy

Approval Anxiety is Getting to Me
Khy replied to Neoteric Verve's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Aetna is very busy at this time of year. You might want to read my topic Advocate for yourself. If you jump through all their hoops they are pretty good about approving but they are pretty exacting about the hoops. Khy -
You know I am with you. You will be fine. Once you get to the other side, take your time to rest and heal. Don't push yourself. Nap when you can and drink the protein. Khy

DID TIME JUST START MOVING 100 TIMES SLOWER?!?!?!
Khy replied to MimiMermaid's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yep it is... I told my doc let'sget this done yesterday! But time will pass and pretty soon it will be the day before your surgery and all sorts of crazy things will go through your mind. Use the time to develop good habits, eat slowly, small bites and chew.. Khy -
My doc gave me 3 reasons... the first one was stated above. The second one was at first your stomach is so small you have to get the nutrition in and liquid takes up some of the room you need. The third one is it just plain does't feel good. Khy

Nope u r not allowed to back out on me now. We are all going in tomorrow to get our new sleeves! Yes I have doubts and yes I do not really know what to do with myself today. We all have fear of failing because it has happened before. I told my husband that I was afraid it would work for everyone else but me. He asked me what I intended to do to make it fail.... Not what I needed to hear and not what I meant when I said that. So now I intend to make it work no matter what... Khy

Hope things go well for you. My surgeon did mention to me that he thought I had a hernia but wanted to see what it looked like when he got in there. Will be thinking of you and let us know how your second sugery goes. Khy

Find a way to build steps( use pillows or cushions maybe) for her to get onto the couch or cahir so she can sit in your lap. Khy

At the top of the roller coaster ride waiting for the plunge. I am third in. So I am guessing surgery will be around 11:00 AM to 11:30 AM. Khy

11 months out. Few issues... are they normal?
Khy replied to TwoStepsBack's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had my gall bladder out because one of the stones got lodged in the beginning of the duct. My gall baldder had to come out fast because if it went down further... laproscopic surgery would not be an option and it would have been a much more difficult surgery. The surgery for me was easy enough. I had it on a Thursday and was back at work on a Monday. I think you will need an ultrasound for your doctor to determine the right course for you. Khy -
You have made a good decision, a decision to be healthy and live longer. The time to have your surgery will be here before you know it. Khy
