Day 15. Knocking round the zoo
meggiep replied to crosswind's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You do know you have to do these every day until...well, forever? I am so glad you have upgraded yourself ;-P It sounds like a much better day. Did they say why no dental work? Just wondering.... and I am so sorry about that laser surgery you were planning...say what? Water aerobics is my workout- I do it five days a week and I am really sad that I will be out of the water for what seems like three weeks. Bummer. I plan to walkie walkie walkie with my husband and our doggie boy. Yay for that B+ -
I keep seeing you around the boards and we both have the same date- but I just realized we are both in No CA too! I'll think of you on the 9th! Do you have to do two weeks of liquids before? p.s. I have a hernia to repair too!

I didn't think it would ever happen for me...
meggiep replied to Infernored's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I think you will find all the info you want all over this board- there are tons of posts about doctors and about the whole procedure. If you have a specific question your best bet would be to post it as this may get lost in this thread wince it is about a specific person's surgery. For example there is a place where doctors are discussed- you can ask about doctors in your area. Good luck to you! -

Oh I am so glad to see your post- I was wondering what happened! Congratulations! -
Welcome! This is a great place for support and an amazing amount of knowledge. My surgery is May 9th- coming up fast! The two weekspre-op liquid diet probably daunts me the most since there will be no sleeve limiting my appetite! Don't be upset if your insurance company rules when it comes to the six months- many of them are pretty adamant about that. It helps if you can show medical supervision of a diet up to this point. Start logging all your food in a web based food log that you can show your doctor. Keep us posted on your journey! Or even do a You Tube log! I have watched so many of those- and am doing one too to pay it forward.

Anybody Watch Ruby?
meggiep replied to notsochubbybritneyspears's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I know what you mean- once you embrace something as we have it is hard not to think it is the right thing for everyone. I have to really keep my mouth shut at my Water aerobics as so omany of the peope in my class could really benefit! The thing about Ruby is that she needs to get to the bottom of her issues or she will fail at anything even the Sleeve. Seems pretty clear she was abused in her past and is not wanting to deal with it. Didn't you hate it when she was so awful to that trainer who had made that course just for her? She get's so stubborn and childish sometimes. -
So pissed and discouraged by Blue Cross
meggiep replied to needachange's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I second that- ask your doctor to help you fast track as you are a teacher and need to do it at that time. Also, doesn't starting in November count? -
2 1/2 Years out after Sleeve
meggiep replied to Suzannesh's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thank you thank you thank you as I face my surgery I am so worried about whether it will work for me- you have really helped me. -
I can report that is probably a good part of it- because I have a fentanyl patch for pain and I am all over the place emotionally. To quote Bruce Springsteen "Someday we'll look back on this and it will all seem funny"

Sick. Sore throat, and low grade fever
meggiep replied to sarahh1828's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I doubt they would make you repeat anything. It is for your own safety not operating while you are sick. Airborne, all that stuff- load it up! Push the fluids. -
Day 13. Gutting it out.
meggiep replied to crosswind's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well this just feeds all my worst fears that is: I will lose very very slowly, the all time slowest loser ever I will have the acid thing that so people get that makes them unable to get anything down even Water I will actually be the first one to steadily gain weight after the sleeve You know the fear drill... The unjury doesn't work at temps over 160 degrees, so you need to make sure of that or it clumps. When I got my sample pack from them it came with a thermometer to use to make sure of that. Could that be the problem? Are you getting all your water? That is supposed to make a big difference.... I so want this to be a brilliant success for you! -
At Water aerobics I was water walking with someone and discussing stomach acid. She has not had the surgery but had a long history of having EVERYTHING cause acid stomach- even water. There was always a sour feeling in her stomach, and a terrible taste in her mouth. Her Dr. gave her prilosec RX with unlimited refills- and she was concerned as she heard that such medications can cause fractures in women, ultimately over time weakening the bones. She did some research and found that it was reported that drinking unfiltered organic apple cider vinegar can help She decided to try drinking a teaspoon of it in a cup of warm water every morning and was soon completely without symptoms! I knew I should share this here as so many of us suffer with this after surgery and it seems like a great option for us in the long term! If anyone tries it, let me know if it works. I plan to do it as soon as I have surgery...as long as my tum tum can handle it.

Cheapest Airfare Website?
meggiep replied to KellyL's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
second kayak.com - it compares all the other ones. My tip is always search one way as you actually get two one ways cheaper than a round trip. The only airline it does not do is Southwest. It compares all the others like expedia, orbitz, cheap tickets, etc. Its fabulous. -
ATTN drinkers, here's my story
meggiep replied to Derp's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Interestingly I have seen in more than a few places the fact that alcohol can definitely contribute to a stall. A few places said that one way to stop losing if you reach goal and keep losing more than you want to (imagine THAT problem!) that a drink a week can help you stop losing. Hearing that is enough to have me backing off from drinking, at least until I reach goal. -
I don't understand- do you mean that with the plication your stomach still absorbs nutrients even though it is folded and stitched? I did not know that. My doctor does not plan to do plication because of that unused portion of the stomach. Most of us on this part of the board have had or will have the sleeve- so forgive my ignorance! There is actually a plication section where you will find other plication people who might better get it! Congratulations on this journey!

Just know that swelling is lots of water weight- believe me.

I JUST NEED SOMEONE TO LISTEN (PLEASE HELP)
meggiep replied to lisa25's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
First I just want to send you a big big hug. I haven't been sleeved yet but everything you are experiencing sounds totally normal to me. Sipping goes on for a long time- for some longer than others- different foods are tolerated differently by everyone and at different rates, time wise. It sees to me the main point of the time after the surgery is taking a good long time babying your new tummy , letting it heal, and taking your time getting back to eating regular food. The more you are careful during this time after your surgery the better your future eating, from what I understand reading here. You are only a month out so , at least on my doctor's plan, at that point I will still be on pureed foods and I plan to take it slowly and carefully since a few months is a short time in a long life made longer by the sleeve. You have already had amazing results! Think about that and soon "Why did I do this?" will be replaced by "Why didn't I do this sooner?" The part that I think is a harder problem is your husbands lac of support. I simply can't imagine him not being there for you during your surgery. I know that friends and family can feel threatened by this, but I am really shocked that he is behaving this way. I really feel for you. I think you should consider some counseling about this and if he wont go (I suspect not) then go yourself. You need support. Come here and vent too- but we are not there in person and you need to work this through with him or it will just get worse. -
That sounds awful! I know how uncomfortable that swelling can make you, too. I sometimes have swelling How do you feel otherwise? Any other symptoms? If you are short of breath or feeling any heart symptoms make sure you page your doctor again.

Seriously need some advice
meggiep replied to MissyG's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am so sorry you are so miserable! I was about to start a thread about acid problems because I was talking to someone at Water aerobics about my fear of having to take an anti acid medication for my whole life- fearful because they are not great for our bones. She mentioned that she had done a lot of research in order to try and treat hers without taking education and found that f she takes a teaspoon of organic unfiltered apple cider vinegar in a cup of warm water every morning it really helped and in fact she went from having even water cause acid to hardly ever having reflux. Maybe that could help you? Make sure it is unfiltered organic, not just regular apple cider vinegar. I am sending you a big hug and keeping you in my prayers. Please give it some time before you consider the rny, I think it is so extreme to divert your intestiines and you might be able to solve this. -
Day 12. Am I thin yet?
meggiep replied to crosswind's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
\ SO here's that story.... I was at Foothill Junior College in the early seventies, and my newly divorced Mom was there too. I wasn' exactly thrilled with that, being at the age when you are spreading your wings and finding your own identity, you don't exactly want your Mom there too. My Mom had always seemed to specialize in embarrassing me - she would start conversations with strangers wherever we went while I cringed and wanted to slide down under the table...kinda sorta the way I am now (yipes!). It might have been partly because she didn't pay much attention to me, but that's another story. Nothing about that kind of behavior prepared me for what I would encounter that day at college...as I came out of Creative writing class that day, coming towards me were a big group of women, marching about 10 women across , with a hundred or so behind them- 10 bare breasted women calling for bare upper body equality with men...and in the middle of them was my own mother. Try as I did, the ground refused to swallow me up.... And yep, the radio station which called for Mom stories for Mothers Day a few years back liked that story too and I won a brand new comfy expensive bed.
