    Quick question about drinking

As you add more and more Protein it is more and more important to drink your water so as to help your kidneys. I would really try to keep increasing it as you get further out. Weight loss is awesome but you are in this for the lon haul and you have to keep your body healthy- get your water and your supplements and your protein.

    Hospitalized

I am really praying that your L shape will straighten out on its own- I am heartened that a poster mentioned that happening. It is so wonderful that you are home!

    Trying not to panic

My doctor is pretty adamant about the fact that you do need to count calories, carbs, etc. - we have about 18 months- 2 years window for the most loss and that is the way to maximize the loss. The sleeve is a great tool to help us do that as we should be without the hunger that usually sabotages us, along with the much smaller capacity. But we are still accountable and need to control our food.

    Just back from Tijuana

Did you switch to the sleeve? (I hope so!)

    new to this

There is a wealth of information here- threads about what to have at the hospital, etc. are in various areas. Spend some time relaxing and reading- this place is amazing. One thing that has really helped me is to watch You Tube vlogs from many people who have had the surgery as they post pre and immediately post op- some even IN the hospital! YOu can search i You Tube fo Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy and find TONS and I also started a thread in the Post Op ares abvout You Tubes. If you want some links PM me. My surgery is May 9th so my own VLog will not give you much info. Good luck!!!

    And It's done

Congratulations on being on the losers bench! Yipes on waking up so soon ...ouch! Interesting about your stomach size- I wonder if some people are almost doomed to obesity by their stomach size because it takes them more food to be full but they don't have the ability to metabolize it! It really makes you wonder... Well, you wont have that problem now!
  9. My advice is chill chill chill it- put it in the freezer as when it is cold it tastes better. I just hope your sleeve can handle it chilled and I just hate the stress you will be putting on it- when I say purge- you purge and purge and purge. I just had this two weeks ago....

    Calling all May Sleevers!

I didn't realize this thread was here! I a thrilled to add to it- my surgery is May 9th - my surgeon is Dr. John Feng and my surgery is at Sequoia Hospital here in Redwood City- he is with the Palo Alto Medical Foundation , has done tons of sleeves and studied with the doctor in New York who developed it. He recently gave a lecture to a passle of doctors at Stanford about sleeves. I start my two week liquid diet on April 25th.

    New Journey

Welcome! You are among friends- the best group of loving supporting people ever. If your approval-I will say WHEN your approval goes through you and I will have our surgeries very close together- I am on May 9th. I would be happy to be along with you on your journey as support buddies. As for your fears- this will be fourth surgery, and I understand your fear of anesthesia. I was terrified my first time too- wrote a will, and went through a lot of emotional trauma - and though I wont tell you there is no risk you need to remember all the tests you have just gone through- I have NEVER been so completely evaluated as far as my ability to do the surgery! Actually now that I have had all these tests I am kind of surprised how little they tested me for my back, knee, and elbow surgeries! The other thing to remember is that you face a possible early death if you don;t do this- you are going for LIFE and health- have faith. As for the fear of not losing- I think we all feel that way. I have this fear that I will have every single bad complication, and will hardly lose any weight. That is really not likely! Though your PCOS may slow you down a bit- just know that if you are faithful to the rules- take your Protein in, drink your Water, limit your carbs, and exercise- you WILL lose. You will be give a wonderful tool that will make you full really fast and that is fabulous- that will end up doing the trick for you in a new and better way than any other time in your life. Don't be afraid! We are all here to help you along the way.
  13. Hey Kelly- I'm in Redwood City and also having my surgery on May 9th- we can support each other on this wonderful journey!

    taking control

I think you are making the right choice. I did a lot of research and the sleeve seemed like by far the best choice for me. It seemed that not only was the lap band something you could eat around between fills, but there were too many stories of erosions and slippage- and many people have a revision to the sleeve anyway later. I did not want my intestines re routed plus the dumping for both lap band and bypass scared me. I honestly think the sleeve will become the most popular surgery very soon. I think you will find you are the envy of the two who opt for the lap band. Good luck to you on this wonderful journey!
  16. My doctor insisted I have it pre-op so I hope you can find another way or wait until you heal longer,
  17. Why are you having one so soon? My doctor insisted I have mine ( I was due) before surgery as he doesn't want you to have it until long long after surgery. Wow that sounds ghastly. At least you have the smaller amount type to drink but unless this is because of a problem I don't see why you would be asked to do this - you are still healing and drinking an extreme purgatives just sounds wrong!

    Newbie with a surgery date!

Start a post of your own so everyone sees this and you get answers! I worry when people post in someone else's thread that they won't get answers!
  19. Why on earth would the doctor require a cardio test when the cardiologist has signed off on you and does not want to do the test? Ask the cardiologist to speak to the other doctor. And what the heck do you need an MRI for? This sounds crazy! I too was dxed with apnea and had to see a cardiologist but this seems like way above and beyond. Asthma? WTF!!!
  20. Everyone has told me that the two week liquid pre diet is the hardest thing of all. After all, after the surgery your smaller stomach makes it a lot easier to eat so little. and there is a reason for doing it- healing. Before it is like the essence of the worst of losing wieght that has haunted you fortever. I actually do think I will sleep a lot more, out of desperation. I am so jealous of people who do not have to do it- but I also do want to make it as easy for my doctor as I can . I'll be starting mine the day after Easter. Sigh.
  21. The one thing that bugs me is the way my fitness pal tells you that you have not eaten enough when you complete a day- obviously not set up for weight loss surgery people. I like fat secret a lot and use it.
  22. I am unclear of your plan- you surely do not plan to drive eight hours after someone checks you out? Will you be staying the night somewhere? I just had a procedure and you will not be in any condition to drive. You don;t need the person to drive you home, right? Just to check you out and take you somewhere else local?
  23. thanks so much for this awesome info!

    Day 16. Navel gazing

Don't know how I did that...posting your quote without anything from me... I love coloring! And when you need something else to play with, crayon now makes COLORED bubbles- amazing. I can't believe no one came up with them before. YOu can get a bubble gun with two colors from them if you want to get out some of that anger in a magical way ;-P By the way.next time you are in Walgreens I am sure you could relaly liven things up- maybe even bring that C grade up, with a visit to the "As Seen on TV" department. A must not be missed for me.
  25. I don't want to come down on you but you could have something seriously wrong and you need to have this checked out. You had major surgery a short time ago. Don't let your discomfort keep you from getting this taken care of. Your doctor sent you to the hospital so you essentially left against medical advice. I really do not think you will die if you go back there but you are playing with fire if you don't. Edited to add- I just re-read your post and noticed you ate pb&j- I know it is often mentioned that bread can cause extreme discomfort as is absorbs liquid and swells. I have heard t can cause a lot of pain. Perhaps that is the issue.
