My doctor says anything pea size or smaller is ok whole otherwise cut in half. I've been swallowing pills sice day 1.

Oh I did not mean you at all Lynn! I wated to be clear that MY feelings were not based on that AMerican superiority I sometimes see. However, I think the system there failed her. If her full history was known why on earth would she be sent into withdrawal? That seems absolutely wrong. Edited to add it essentially seemed as if her possible dependence on pain medication was the problem rather than the fact her care did not take that into account. She suffered because of that and I am really upset about that.

Sorry, I see it a bit differently. Wile this account in a sense makes Renee the problem I believe there was a problem way before her surgery in the doctor's practice. I understand that you are adamant that Dr. Aceves and his staff give the highest standard of health care and I believe you! I totally am supportive of those who go to Mexico for surgery and as my sister lives near San Dego and routinely goes to Tijuana for healthcare and dentistry I harbor no American superiority ideas that there is anything deficient there. However I feel that in this situation it failed to support Renee in her needs and I wonder if the way it is routinely done is not the culprit. Renee's medications should have been part of a routine pre-surgery discovery. Listing the medication you are on is standard here and most certainly her use of lortab should have been documented and totally dealt with in terms of her post surgery pain management. People with fibromyalgia often take opioids for pain, that is well known. That she might need more pain management than someone who does not should not have been a shocking surprise requiring a sudden summons of a doctor. I had the same medication I take for my fibro as well as my debilitating nerve back pain and knee pain in my IV in the same amount as I take daily and had only to push a button to have more flow in- why on earth was withdrawal even an issue? Renee should have had all her medications known before she arrived and dealt with in Mexico. Withdrawal should NOT have happened for her. ALL my medications (thyroid, lexapro) were crushed and given to me on schedule. My pain for the surgery was managed skillfully and fluidly and I had no gap without. The effexor and lyrica can have a days gap, the lortab most certainly should not. I always have wondered about the pre-op differences between the U.S. and Mexico as so many of us here go through so many preop hurdles and have so many different aspects of our health examined. Yet I also know that much of what is done occurs because of the ever present fear of lawsuits so I could ascribe many of the differences to the fact that whole sue happy thing does not exist in Mexico. However I think not taking her full medical history as far as her medications, and the gap in her healthcare that happened accordingly in this instance shows what is for me a serious lacking in one aspect of the Mexican surgery experience. I would hope in the future perhaps this is something Dr. Aceves might think about changing.

Is there a maximum amount of protein?
meggiep posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have been doing 3 scoops of a 15/per scoop Protein powder , the morning, then about 32 more at lunch (I am still on liquids) and then need only get 10 or so to be nicely over goal. The GNC Wheybolic Extreme 60 sounds enticing with 6 in 3 scoops but I think I remember reading that there is only so much protein you absorb in one consumption. Does anyone know? This is particularly pertinent for me as I am starting mushies Monday and would love to have one shake and try to get my protein from the mushies after that, -
Help! No one in my house understands!
meggiep replied to S311kyra's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I feel for you! Though I get what I call a sort of longing with savory luscious smells I really have not been hungry since surgery. I think that will start to happen for you too. It is important not to take it personally- I really cannot blame my husband and son for filling the house with cooking smells- they have not had surgery and though they really try to be thoughtful and eat in other rooms I would rather hang out with my husband , at leat for his main meals. Your sister and her daughter are really not trying to hurt you- they are just doing what they do! You don;t do that now because YOU are going to lose a ton of weight! Just keep your eye on the prize- and once the hunger hormone clears out of your system I think you will find it easier. Seriosuly - when you ate like they do you got to the point where you chose this life altering surgery and just remember you will soon be able to have anything you want, just tiny portions of it. Here's a sympathy hug!!!! As a funny side note- I got in the car the other day to go to my post-op appt. and discovered my husband had FILLED the car with snacks- movie theater popcorn, jelly Beans, licorice, chocolate, crackers- he wanted to do it when he was out doing errands, etc. to spare me so there it was- a rolling snack mobile! -
I am hungry..should I eat?
meggiep replied to Lots Of Hope's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
600 calories is not a lot.I don't know what food stage you are on since everyone's plan is so different- but I think you would be fine having a high protein low carb snack as long as you don't go to bed right after. I think it is good to have your intake go up and down to keep your body from going into conserve mode. -
A GOOD protein Powder
meggiep replied to Michelle Cicerello's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Girl if I had known you were only doing RTD! I have not found one yet that did not disgust me. With the powders you can change it up- add decaf, or your own preference of milks- vanilla, sugar free syrups- and eventually- banana! I am so glad you found one you like- I was worried because getting lots of protein is definitely one of the lynchpins of the weightloss. Hooray! I am going to try to be good tomorrow and stay on my liquids until Monday. I guess it is another test of my will! I got the tastiest cream of chicken Soup at Harry's- I got two quarts and will have the starined stuff tonight and tomorrow and then blend the whole soup Monday. It is so delish! Onward! -
Take the month! If you start getting antsy there are tons of things you can do- and nothing you would HAVE to do. I personally am glad I don;t have to be working yet. My husband and son are shooting a wedding tomorrow and we hired a friend to replace me because and mainly because I am not supposed to lift over four pounds until the one month mark but truly I am not ready to be on my feet shooting all day for a ten hour day. I definitely am much much better- I am walking a lot and feeling pretty good but I would not say I am 100% (Must point out here I have chronic nerve pain in my back, two bad knees, and fibromyalgia). The thing is everyone varies- there is a wide spectrum- and you don't know which end you will be on so why not take the time? Heck if you feel great you can sort you closets and get rid of the clothes you know you wont be wearing...go shopping...take walks with your Mom- go to day time movies- do all the things you always wanted to do if you had the time off.

A GOOD protein Powder
meggiep replied to Michelle Cicerello's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I need to give it a try- I liked it before surgery and it made me ILL after! I still have my bag so I need to give it a try because that 60 grams is verrrrry appealing! -
Low BMI and still having VSG
meggiep replied to christina420's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
My opinion about Dr. Almanza has definitely lowered since hearing he did a sleeve on someone 20 pounds overweight. I am NOT one who looks at surgery in Mexico in a negative way as my sister lives in Del Mar and has gone there for dentistry, etc for years. I know the standard of care is excellent but this I find appalling. -
Day 18 Post Op
meggiep replied to Michelle Cicerello's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Oh I am absolutely swooning to read what you have been eating! I a shopping today for Monday since my guys will be gone tomorrow shooting a wedding- I'll get the ricotta bake ingredients, and the Beans too. YUMM!!!! Luckily Harry's Hofbrau is down the street from us and they have cream of chicken Soup today so I will get two- one to strain and eat tomorrow and the other for Monday, my golden day. Kelly if things don't get better for you in a week I would talk to your doctor, maybe you need balloon down there to stretch the area a bit. This seems long to have swelling- but maybe not! I will know better after I try eating mushies myself.... SO near yet so far! -
Help!!! I'm 5 days post op and downing 12 oz of liquid in 20 minutes
meggiep replied to forever35's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
COnsider yourself so lucky! You will have a better chance of getting your 64 plus ounces in easily and you WILL have restriction. As soon as you start real food the sleeve will wave hello! -
Aside from the IV water weight, which is different thing and will definitely leave within a few days, the other gains during stalls are so well explained in this article, which I believe really explains you are still losing even while stalled. I keep posting it in different threads because I think it is so great- it was originally posted in the Stall Busters thread I think. : http://www.dsfacts.com/weight-loss-stall-or-plateau.html

That food pain in the chest
meggiep replied to meggiep's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
With cottage cheese being on the full liquid phase for me I am not surprised it went down well- high in Protein too! I really recommend getting unjury chicken soup- it is tasty and 21 grams per envlopo (which I suspect is two scoops). No proein taste at all and 0 carbs. I am realizing as I head into real food that carbs matter more and more- for example the Chike protein I like the taste of just has too many carbs! Most have 11- though they do have 2-3 Fiber so net carbs are lower and my nutritionist approved them yesterday my thought was- do you want a chike for 11 or a pudding cup treat for 12? I imagine you know the answer- I had my 82 grams in mby days end yesterday and my pudding cup was my treat- at 60 calories. -
Anyone done protein/carbs for Eggface's recipes?
meggiep replied to meggiep's topic in Food and Nutrition
Those egg bites - the cristless quiches?- seem like the easiest to calculate as they make 24 mini quiches so you can just divide by 24. I calculated the ricotta bake last night and will post but it is so hard to know what the serving will be. It says on the site the reason she does not list it is so many people are different- she uses full fat cheeses, for example, and some might sub low fat or (in her opinion HORRORS ;-P) non fat cheese. I think I will do the bake, score it for servings, and then estimate once I have my few forkfulls! -
I am day five and whoever said day five is a turnaround is So right! Today the liquids go down without pain!!!!! This is huge as getting fluids in , Protein, Water, tea, anything- has been MAJOR work until today. I still have to sip of course, but don't have to wait for the pain to pass and the huge burps to subside for the next sips. I am still setting my phone timer for every fifteen minutes and drinking 2 ounces as that has worked for me- and I keep a variety next to me to drink0 currently black decaf tea, propel grape, water, and the nummy chicken broth my husband made for me with powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury unflavored Protein powder in it. Yesterday I managed about 48 ounces fluid/40 grams protein - today I plan to do better. One of my issues was that the Protein drinks I adored presurgery were suddenly yucky and actually caused me to vomit. I felt like the net had been pulled out from under me- and along with the pain, the gas, and the trouble drinking it made for a really hard few days. I admit I cried a couple of times day 2 and 3 feeling I would never be able to do everything I needed to do to heal and get back to life. I have fibromyalgia and it was not until after surgery that I thought about what that might mean to my recovery. I am sure it amplified some discomfort. I haven't been as good about walking and I need to do better- I just did not feel up to dressing and my walk in my robe extends to my block of long time neighbors who all know the crazy cat lady at the corner and have seen it before. Anyway- for me five days is the charm- I am not at ALL worried about getting my fluids in today and am pushing to do a lot better than 64 ounces as I do find I have had diarrhea every other day. I don' know if this is normal and will talk to my dietician and doctor on Monday about progress in general. I will get about 60 grams of protein today and when I get some more supplies should do better. My husband will be way buff since he will drink the protein drinks I can't abide now- and that leaves me scrambling and without the supplies I thought I had ready to go, For the record my solutions so far are Champion Pro something or other 100 mixed with 8 ounces of cold decaf coffee and belnded with three ice cubes in the morning for 30 grams, and Unjury unflavored powder mixed with that nummy broth I mentioned. I only have a couple of samples of that powder so have to look locally and in any case I do not like the amount of powder you have to use to get 20 grams, I would like a little more bang for my powder. OK RV peeps- chime in with your story! ps I have never, even when I was crying regretted this surgery for one minute!

That food pain in the chest
meggiep replied to meggiep's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My name for my teeny tiny thumb sized tummy. It was coined by Ms. Swizzly, whom I really enjoy on this forum. I am thinking this could be sensitivity to splenda- since most of them have that- is that possible? I gotta say I am getting used to the taste to a point- I certainly macked a Jello sugar free pudding cup tonight and did not care about the splenda! I still cannot abide adding it to tea. Most beverages with it need to be cold for me. I had diarrhea every day until I hit day 16 and that seems to be over (knock on wood!) Anyway as I mentioned above, my doctor suggested if a Protein Drink is affecting you badly to dilute it more and drink it more slowly. Of course I can't wait to leave the PDs behind I know realistically I may need at least one a day until I get safely into eating my food sources. -
I a beyond sad this happened. I have to say this bugs me because my doctor her knew exactly what I take- I take dilaudid, one of the strongest pain meds there is- and though I only take 2 mg 2 times a day most days this of course needed to be considered when it came to my pain management after the surgery and I had a dilaudid pump - I just needed to push a button and it delivered the relief immediately and to exactly where it was needed. I am devastated that was not available for you and that you had to suffer for even a moment. I am the last person to ever doubt that the experience in Mexico is first rate medicine but in this respect, at least, it failed you. I so wanted it to go well for you! I also heard you hurt your ear- is that ok? Keep us posted as you can and just rest and heal. This is but a short few days in a long life of rocking that sleeve! xoxo

SO glad you are past this- seriously the hoop jumping period from February to mid April was so frustrating- I encountered roadblock after roadblock and finally got over them all. You will too! ONWARD!!!

May 27th Sleevers - it's time!!!
meggiep replied to JG407's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hooray on your sleeves all 5/27s! Can't wait to hear how you are doing. By the way- if you click edit and then click full edit and then you can edit the thread title. -
What she said! My husband has been through H E double hocky sticks with me with back surgery, three falls, gaining a hundred pounds- all of it. He loves me for me and I adore him - we are soul mates. I do understand why a less solid relationship might be shaky after the surgery but I don;t relly see why you should hold back with someone you think you could have a future with just because of WLS.

That food pain in the chest
meggiep replied to meggiep's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Split peas and Beans have ALWAYS given me gas so maybe that is the problem Or perhaps. I am so sorry you are having so much trouble, I wish it would get better for you! Maybe you needed a little longer to heal. I will know better what that feels like on Monday. BTW do you have Harry's Hofbrau near your area? I looked up their Soups and tomorrow they have cream of chicken so I am stocking up. I am also excitedly betting the stuff for the ricotta bake....oh I just look forward to Monday so much EVEN with your tales of woe. I guess I want that taste even if it brings pain. -
My hubbie hates me, lmao
meggiep replied to LissyinTX's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Congratulations! I am counting the hours until Monday , my 3 week mark, when I get off thin liquids and on mushies/soft food. I can't WAIT! I really don't mind my doctor being conservative though, this sleeve is for the rest of my life so I want it good and healed. Meanwhile.... Protein shakes. GAG. -
That food pain in the chest
meggiep replied to meggiep's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
OK now here's a wacky thing for you cottage cheese is on full liquids on my surgeons instructions! I didn;t get it since he kept me on thin liquids but how wacky it is not even on mushies for you- going by my doctor it is no wonder it goes down well for you. It has lots of Protein too. Yes- my husband made chicken stock for me so I mix it with the Unjury for my afternoon protein. I ordered a tub so I can use three scoops and up the count. I just cant take 2 sweet ones any more. Are you chewing until everything is absolutely disintegrated? This is in the instructions from my doctor, maybe this will help: 1. Try one small bite of the new foodand chew well. Wait two minutes and if there are no problems go to step two. 2, Try 2 small bites and chew well. Wait two minutes and if no problems, step 3. 3. Try three as above and if no problems finish eating ( you may be finished at this point!) If at any step you feel full, nauseated, or ill in any way. Stop eating and rest. Take only Clear Liquids at the next meal, and try again with blended foods and liquids at the next meal. I am starting to hate them too. So freaking sweet! About getting sick though- My doctor said that if that happens dilute the Protein Drink more and take longer to drink it. That, of course, is counter to my approach of getting it into the smallest amount of liquid and getting it over with! Puppylovemommy - if it is the usual protein drink it is unlikely to be sugar since most I have seen are splenda. You might want to add a scoop of Protein powder (unflavored) to the soups. I am on the hunt for soup today for sure I am so over the Protein shakes. My scales were so funny today- on the digital that was 2547 yesterday- I was 248.6, on the health ometer I was 249, and on the "accurate one" I stayed at 250. I expected a gain to day because I had unjury chicken soup yesterday and it is SO salty. I do want to put them with the one at my doctor just for fun.Yep- It is a hoot here at my house with us all checking all three!
